This is a book about eating more plants and less meat. While it has some good information, I didn't like it very much. The author talks about why eating more plants is good for you and gives some tips on how to start eating this way. It also has some recipes to try, which is nice. However, I found the book a bit boring and I didn't feel like I learned as much as I wanted to.

I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.

Plant Based Diet for Beginners is a book that is aimed at helping people who want to eat a plant based diet to begin. Sadly this was very disappointing. I had hoped for so much more than what I read in this book. The information is rather confusing and contradictive in places and I felt the author hadn't done enough research on the topics and diet to pull this book off. There also wasn't any recipes which was highly disappointing as I had hoped to find some meals in this book too bud sadly there were non nor any illustrations, photographs or diagrams..

I'm sad to say I was disappointed in Goffredo Righi Schwammer's Plant-Based Diet for Beginners.

First off, I feel like this books is mis-titled. I don't understand how a book centered on assisting folks in planning a plant based diet could include servings of turkey sausage and pork pudding.

Next, there is quite a bit of information aimed at athletes and sufferers of physical ailments. It's nice to be informed of these things, but I was looking for practical pointers on transitioning to a plant based diet, not looking to read a medical journal.

Whilst there is some useful & interesting information in this book I’m afraid I found it a little repetitive & contradictory.

I hate writing bad reviews, but this book just wasn't good. While I expect some grammatical errors in advanced copies of books, this one was so full of them that it made it difficult to focus on the content. Even the content was subpar. There wasn't a lot of research or data to support the author's information. The advice that was given was often contradictory, too. In one part, he said that eggs are okay to eat, but just a few sentences later, he listed the health and ethical concerns related to egg consumption. Yes, plant-based diets can vary widely, but he often seemed too permissive with animal-derived foods, too. I read it on my Kindle so perhaps recipes didn't show up, but there were no recipes in my edition. One of the main things someone considering a dietary change wants to know is what they can eat and how to prepare it in order to be successful.

Thanks to BooksGoSocial and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this title.

A why-to not a how-to book on switching to a plant-based diet. I guess I was expecting a book that would step the reader through the process of switching to plant-based with a diet plan and recipes. Instead, I felt bombarded with endless repetition of the benefits of this diet for many specific health issues. Some broad suggestions and tips on protein combinations were helpful but overall, not for me.

I grabbed this book hoping that it would inspire me to increase the number of plant based meals that I consume. I am someone who enjoys a lot of food but sometimes struggle with finding plant based meals that I enjoy. I must not have read the description very well, because I discovered that this is a book explaining all of the concepts surrounding a plant-based approach and not so much a recipe book. (There is a recipe toward the middle) I do appreciate that the author took the time to lay out, in thorough detail, vocabulary, background, a variety of options, etc. I found the reference to the food study very interesting. This is a great read for someone wanting to understand more about a plant based way of life.

I’ve read a few beginning plant-based diet books and this is the worst. It was super preachy , nothing new was presented, no real recipes, and a meal plan that you could get for free if you google it. Don’t waste your money or time on this book.

Thanks to #NetGalley and the publisher for providing a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

This is an excellent book with a lot of information on choosing a plant based diet. It shows the pros & cons. It takes you step by step and what to eat. I liked the information about vitamins that you still get being plant based. There's a lot of misinformation about b12 deficiency in vegan diets. I've recently started eating vegan because of food allergies but have also eliminated meat. I really could have used it a few months ago when I was starting out. But glad to have it now.

Title should be carefully considered - this is truly for beginners. This is a quick summary of why we should all eat more plants - which we should - which leans on some of the most popular and well known sources for this information and science. Some claims for health benefits are dubious at best - so readers should consider this the opinion - albeit well intended and passionate - of the author who is a project manager and not a healthcare or nutrition professional.

I'm always interested in learning more about diet, especially as it relates to health. I decided to check out Plant-Based Diet for Beginners to see if there was any new information or tips I could gain.

The book covers a lot and is written in such a way that those unfamiliar with this diet could understand. That being said, I found the writing kind of clunky and hard to get through. The book could also benefit from citations where data and studies are mentioned.

Thank you NetGalley and BooksGoSocual for providing me with an early copy of this book.

Plant-Based Diet for Beginners, by Geffredo Righi Schwammer, is a straight to the point guide to initiate oneself into a plant-based diet.

I have been a vegetarian for 3 years, and at the beginning it was a radical change of lifestyle. I wish I had had an easy guide to hold my hand during those tough first moths where I did not know what to eat.

The fact that the book is not written to be read by experts but by the lay person, makes it so that the reader actually entertains the idea of changing their diet style. Moreover, the book goes over how a plat-based diet affects the human body focusing on how vegetarianism and veganism affect diabetes, PCOS and arthritis, in addition to losing weight.

I have no doubt that once this book is available to purchase I will be gifting it to most of my friends, as a way to show them that being plant-based is honestly the better choice.

This is not a recipe book. i does helpfully go into detail on non meat vs meat eating options. A few helpful tips and information.

I am not sure what I was expecting based on the title, but it wasnt this. This was more about the rationale, in his opinion, for going plant based.

What I did like was the small number of recipes that were in there and some pairing of meals.

I was given a free copy by netgalley and the publishers but the review is entirely my own.

This is really handy for beginners, so it's true to its title! It's very easy to read. The layout is a little bland, so it could be improved by presenting the information in a more visually appealing way. It could also be improved with authorities for some of the claims, such as research, so the reader can see the information is verified.

This book answers a lot of the questions a person might have when deciding to go plant-based, whether it is for the animals, the environment or for health reasons, and could be a great entry point for anyone interested in that route.

However, there are some aspects of it that I feel could hinder its reach and credibility, but can be easily corrected: the diagramming of the file, which looks poorly done; and the lack of academic references throughout the book, which could give the book further authority.

One and a half stars, DNF at 30%. I know the biggest factor here was that I am apparently not a beginner and thus not the intended audience, which was supposed to be obvious to me because I happen to know the difference between a vegetarian and a vegan. (Read: sarcasm.) The information was solid, if too basic for almost anyone who knows anything about plant-based eating. This is a problem, because few people who are just starting to dip their toes into this sort of diet are not going to start with such a lengthy book, not when there are so many other ways of conveying this information in more digestible pieces.

I also can't help but point out that the writing was awful, and it was quite obvious that the author came from a corner of academia where writing is not a required skill. My favourite sentence was, "Many diets begin as an emotional response to our dissatisfaction with how we look or how we worry we will appear on a specific day such as Summer, wedding, reunion, etc." And that was its own paragraph, with no obvious relevance to the parts before or after.

This had some good information about why switching to a vegetarian/vegan diet is so important. It definitely pushed veganism (no diary, eggs, etc) over vegetarian. The usual preaching that it is not just a diet but a lifestyle. I would definitely get behind this for ethical reasons and overall health, but I don't think I could cut out diary completely.

I liked the chapters on food pairings and portions. I like the discussion on the vegetarian food wheel. I like that there were some food/meal ideas as well that were easy.

However towards the end there was a lot harboring on medical issues and plant based diets "to cure" these issues. I think a healthy diet can minimize many of these issues, sure. But a lot of preaching about what this change can do seemed like it was scaring people into making the switch; instead of suggesting it.

Still a recommended, well-written book about plant based diet lifestyle not heavy on recipes but the philosophy. I am adopting more days to veggies during the week and less to red meat, it is a start.

Recommended.
