I think the cover and title of this book kept putting me off listening to it, it just shows that you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover !! It was a really good storyline with lots of twists and turns, looking forward to the next one in the series!

The narrator was great ! She made it so easy to listen to and really entertaining!

I switched between the reading the book and listening to the audiobook so my review for the story is the same. In. terms of the audiobook - I enjoyed the narration but I did find my mind wandering while listening so did miss a few bits and in the end decided to read the rest. My personal preference would be to read the story but this would be perfect for audiobook fans.

The Shadow Lily is the second novel in The Islands Murder series featuring Detective Hanna Duncker. Last year I read and loved the first book in the series, The Night Singer, and as there were elements of the story left unfinished I was thrilled to be back on the Swedish island of Ölund to pick up where the first book left off.

Jenny Ahlström returns home to find that her husband, Thomas, and 14 month old son are missing. Hanna and her partner, Erik Lindgren are immediately sent out to investigate, and it's a race against time to find out if Thomas and Hugo have been the victims of a crime or if they disappeared of their own accord. As they begin to question his friends and colleagues, it becomes clear that Thomas has been keeping secrets from his wife. What and who was he involved with, and does the daughter he never met or had any involvement with have anything to do with his disappearance?

I really enjoyed the dual-timeline aspect of the story. Placing flashbacks from Thomas's POV throughout the investigation really helped to build a picture of the events leading up to his wife discovering they were missing. Gradually piecing together bits of information from these flashbacks with the information Hanna and Erik uncover meant that I had the opportunity to play detective too and try to work out what happened before the detectives.

The reason I was so keen to read The Shadow Lily was to find out more about Hanna's investigation into her father's conviction for murder. Even though the two police investigations have been interesting, it is this storyline which has kept me hooked and wanting to find out more. Annoyingly and excitingly at the same time, this looks like it will continue into a third book. The latest developments are very intriguing and I look forward to reading on!

This is an interesting crime book (the second book in a series), which is about police detective Hanna Duncker and how she and her partner Erik, investigate a father and his son's disappearance. She also investigates her own father's crimes. Of course, there is someone on her back, trying to stop her doing these investigations, but how will it all end up? You will have to read the book to find out!

The narrator of the book did a good job, and I enjoyed the book, although I was a bit confused by the ending.

Many thanks to the author/narrator, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book.

The Shadow Lily by Johanna Mo Narrated by: Jasmine Blackborow is the second book in the The Island Murders series and a great alone book especially if you have not read the first one (like me) I really enjoyed it, it was fast paced with great twists and turns with a brilliant cliff hanger ending! especially as its a great start of a third book if Johanna is going to write one......Fingers cross.

this story about a small-town detective who becomes entangled in the mystery that trapped her father for over a decade. i found the narrator abit distracting and jarring and this was disruptive at times. There are parts that are discribed beautifully and the story itself is intriguing and abit different. i did however find the pace quite slow.

An estate agent who is supposed to be on paternity leave is found murdered in one of the houses his firms is selling and there is no sign anywhere of his toddler son, so time is of the essence to find the little boy and catch the killer.

As a police procedural, I thought it was quite an engaging story, certainly the whereabouts of little Hugo kept me quite gripped, and while this element of the plot was resolved, I was somewhat disappointed by the ending, which left the case incomplete and finished on a cliffhanger with regard to the characters' personal lives, presumably to be picked up in the next in the series. (This is the second in the series, and there is some continuing plot with the police officers' personal lives, but not with the murder case.) However I never particularly warmed to the characters and while I liked reading this well enough as an ARC, I wouldn't hurry to purchase the next in the series.

The narrator was quite good although she did the thing of exaggeratedly pronouncing foreign words and names in a Scandinavian accent, while the rest of it was in an English accent, which I personally dislike but is only a small gripe. Also when they kept referring continually to "the swede" rather than naming the character, I was just picturing that they had arrested a root vegetable.

***AUDIO BOOK VERSION***
The Shadow Lily is the second book in a series and did refer a few times to book one but I'd say you can get the gist of what happened in book one from this as I've not read book one but managed to piece things together OK. The story has lots of little twists and follows Tom before he was murdered and the main character - police detective Hanna Duncker. I loved how the book went back and forth between Tom's murder and Hugo going missing. Hanna is also doing a private investigation into her own fathers crimes and she makes a discovery that puts her investigation on its head. But someone doesn't like her investigating his past and starts playing with her. This was such a clever read and I really hope there will be a book 3. I also was pleased I didn't guess the perpetrator of the crimes before the end too! The narrator did a good job with this book and fitted the feel of the book and characters well.

This was a good audio listen not a thriller but plenty of twists and turns to keep you interested its book 2 of a series but although the crimes are resolved the ending leaves it open for book 3
That said you don't need to read book 1 to follow the storyline

This book is the Second in the series, I have not read the first one and while this can be read as a stand-alone it does refer to the first book. The plot is interesting and pulls you in but the story was too slow and in order to find out what happens you need to read the third book.
Spoiler
For a book with 71 Chapter and 13 The Last Day’s taking it to a total of 84 chapters it is disappointing that it ends with the wrong person being arrested and the police yet to correct it

Ultimately it is not a book I would go out of my way to listen to again. It was too slow and the narrator didn’t really match the feel of the book.

Nearly DNF. Not because the book was not good, it has original plot ,story is very slow pacing that sometimes I do get lost where the story begin and end . The book is just not for me.
Anyway, I tried to finished it and it did pay off at the end. Really is slow pacing as the end you will find the one you are looking for .

This was a very original plot with some interesting characters. The pacing of the story was spot on and I admit I didn’t guess the perpetrator of the crime/crimes before the reveal. Maybe the ending could have been a bit sharper but that’s only a small criticism. I hadn’t read the previous book in the series but it was very much a stand alone so that didn’t spoil my read.
The narrator didn’t seem quite right which wasn’t jarring but didn’t add in the way some narrators do.

Listened to the audiobook.
I received a free Advanced Reading Copy via NetGalley in exchange for a complete and honest review. The narration has good pace and flow, and the narrators voices seemed right for the characters they were portraying. Overall a great storyline and perfect pacing.

I didn't read/listen to the first book in the series but it didn't really seem to matter and it all worked for me I got into the general feel of the story and the background of the characters.

The narration really suited the style of the book.

Will definitely look for more.

I was given an advanced copy of the book by netgalley and the publishers but the review was entirely my own.

This was a great thriller that I read in one day - it was that enthralling.. The characters are well rounded, beautifully written, while being flawed. The domestic element in this thriller makes me hope there is gonna be more in this Series I had generally never heard of the author til I requested this and I have found another incredible author.
This is heartbreaking and heartwarming in equal measure
.
There are some themes in this that may be things some people may want to avoid but I cant post without integral spoilers
