The Serial Killer's Daughter tells the story of Jenny, who has tried her hardest to escape from her former life and start again in a sleepy Devon village. She is happily married with two children and a wonderful career as a vet, but things are not quite as perfect as they seem as she realises when she discovers that her husband is having an affair. When his mistress is abducted, Jenny has some difficult questions to answer, especially as she had a blackout on the night of the disappearance. She has serial killer blood in her, is she set to follow the same path as her father?

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this audiobook. It was quick and easy to get into and I was quickly invested in the story. It was written with a good pace and it constantly kept me guessing; I thought I had it all figured out, but was totally wrong!

I'll certainly be looking to read other books by this author.

My thanks to NetGalley and the Publishers for sending me this ARC in return for an honest review.

I am confused my these characters, cheating just happend??? No way. Sorry. This not for.me unfirtunately. Not all was bad but was quite good the story, I was wondering where this blackouts go all the time. I was worried for the main chaeacter couse a life like hers was not an easy one. Having a serial killer for father and control freak for mother. Having a husband that can not be faitful and a child.. ok I liked the book anyway andnwould love to read more by this autor.

Thank you Harper Collins Uk Audio and Netgalley for this alc.

The two narrators really brought this book to life for me! A gripping thriller that starts on simmer and builds to a boil. Dazzlingly clever, twisting and constantly surprising. An unputdownable rollercoaster of a read.

**Listened to audio version and read along with electronic version**

Firstly, I didn't realise this was a sequel. I hadn't read the serial killers wife - so I'm not sure if that played a part in my disliking of this book.
I found this book to be incredibly slow - unusual for a thriller. I struggled with the motivation of picking this book up to carry on reading.
I found the plot to be unoriginal and this left me feeling a bit flat while reading. It definitely was not the page-turner I was hoping it would be.

The audio book had two separate narrators for each of the POV's - I liked this idea, but unfortunately it just wasn't enough to spark the excitement with this lack lustre thriller.

Not for me.

The Serial Killer’s Daughter is the second novel by British author, Alice Hunter. The audio version is narrated by Heather Long and Ciaran Saward. When veterinarian Jenny Johnson wakes in the early hours of Wednesday morning on her kitchen floor, cold and dirty, her pyjamas stained with wet earth, mud embedded under her nails, she knows she has had another blackout, and wonders just what she has been doing out there. She manages to hide it from her family, although her husband, Mark knows something’s up.

More disturbing, though, is the black bin bag she spots near the front steps, containing the mutilated body of a cat, with an extra touch that has her immediately wondering who, from the life she’s tried so hard to leave behind, has found her.

After a busy day at her vet practice, Mark mentions the news that has rocked their village of Coleton Combe: Olivia Edwards is missing, believed abducted on her walk home from the local pub the previous evening.

He’s keeping to himself the worry that Jenny might be involved, because he has, once before, failed to contain her sleep-walking, and tracked her down to Olivia’s front garden, a rock in her hand. His affair with Olivia is still a sore point between them.

Between the police questioning everyone in the village, speculation and gossip amongst the school mums, villagers and clinic staff, and more bin bags with grisly contents, Jenny’s stress levels are sky high, a situation that results in more blackouts, more sleepwalking, more worry about what she might have done, especially when the situation begins to resemble something she has experienced before.

It gradually becomes clear that neither of Mark nor Jenny has been entirely honest about their past: Mark has failed to mention impulsive acts following excess alcohol intake; Jenny has refused to talk about her family, never mentioning her manipulative, controlling mother or her serial killer father.

Most of the story is told through a dual narrative carried by Mark and Jenny; additional facts are provided by recalled conversations between a father and daughter, and extracts from a true crime book and commentary from the anonymous author about interactions with the book’s subject.

The reader may initially wonder just how reliable a narrator Jenny is. Certainly, the second-guessing she engages in about her own actions has strong foundations, and her blackouts and nocturnal activity make her the ideal subject for gaslighting.

There are plenty of distractions, red herrings and lots of tension to keep the reader guessing and the pages turning right up to the nail-biting climax. The blurb is slightly misleading and the resolution needs some suspension of disbelief, but still an excellent crime thriller.

'The Serial Killer's Daughter' is another fantastic audiobook from Alice Hunter! Given the similarity of title to her stunning debut, I wasn't sure if it was part of a series or a standalone read, but quickly realised it is standalone, and utterly superb!

The story starts with Jenny, married, mother to 2 children and a successful vet, waking one morning to discover that in a blackout the previous evening, she has reason to believe she left the family home. Beyond this, she has no recollection of what took place during the lost hours, but is alarmed to subsequently learn that a local woman has disappeared, presumed to have been abducted during Jenny's lost hours.

Narrative switches between Jenny and her husband, who has his own reasons for suspecting that Jenny may be involved in the crime.

This is a superb, twisty novel, that is very well narrated between both characters.

This is a fantastic listen that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend. My thanks to NetGalley, author and publisher for the opportunity to review this audiobook in exchange for an advance copy.

Does being a killer run in the family?

This book ticks all the boxes of a great serial killer thriller. If you love lots of psychological suspense, a grim serial killer and a copycat killer to boot, you can’t go wrong with this read. It’s a binge-worthy read which is better than a lot of shows on tv/Netflix right now! I gobbled it up in one sitting and would heartily recommend it to friends, family and fans of the genre. A special shout out goes to the narrators, Heather Long and Ciaran Saward, for reading it so brilliantly and really bringing the characters to life.
Huge thanks to the author, Alice Hunter, and publisher, Avon, for this advance review copy. Views my own. 5*
