An insomniac who should write a review about a spa with a special sleep program. What a setting!

Daisy a journalist is being sent to The Serenity Spa by her boss. She finds herself in a luxurious surrounding and everything one can dream of. But she somewhow feels uncomfortable. Maybe it is due to the mysterious owner Amity. She uses some strange techniques to support her clients.

This is the kind of psychological thriller I enjoy and it had all the elements I expected it to have!

Daisy has insomnia and it is starting to interfere with all aspects of her life. If you’ve ever had insomnia, you know what a night are it is. You would do anything to make it stop. So, when Daisy hears about a spa that would relax her and possibly heal her, of course she says YES. But something isn’t right. What starts out as a positive relaxing time turns into something you will never see coming. I really enjoyed this.

How far would you go to get a good night's sleep? The Insomniac is a story about Daisy who is a journalist and gets a dream assignment to write about a new sleep clinic. Maybe she will finally find out what's keeping her up at night. But when hypnotized secrets about her past may be revealed and that was not what she wanted to happen. The story is told from Daisy and her therapist Amity's point of view. A real page turner!!!

This is my favorite type of book and the very first page had me gripped and locking all the doors. It is a great thrilling storyline. I thoroughly enjoyed it but I won't be getting hypnosis anytime soon that's for sure. Highly recommend. Thank you netgalley and inkubator for this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
My rating ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐5/5

Daisy can’t sleep. But the cure is her worst nightmare.

Daisy hasn’t had a good night’s sleep in years. Her chronic insomnia has gotten so bad, it’s affecting her job as a journalist. So she’s delighted when she’s asked to review a new, luxurious sleep clinic - this could be the answer to her prayers.

At first, everything about the clinic seems perfect – the stunning seaside location, the beautiful rooms, the exquisite cuisine.

Clinic owner and chief therapist, Amity, is sure she can cure Daisy’s insomnia by uncovering its root cause. But to do that, she’ll use hypnosis to probe deep into Daisy’s past. And that’s not good – because Daisy has a terrible secret.

As Amity digs into her mind, Daisy feels more and more vulnerable. She begins to think there is something off about the clinic. Is her insomnia making her paranoid or does Amity have her own sinister agenda?

Fearing the past has finally caught up with her, Daisy wonders if she should just leave. But that’s not so easy – because this clinic, which was supposed to offer rest and safety, is the most terrifying place she’s ever been…

Being an insomniac myself, I love any insomnia books. I’ve read a few different of Miranda’s books and this one is definitely my favorite by her.

Deviously twisty and I was here for here it. I didn’t see one of the twists coming but I did feel like the ending was a little anticlimactic for my liking but overall an entertaining thriller!

After reading this, I won’t be getting hypnosis done anytime soon. 😂😂

This story was non-stop through the whole book, I loved it. Daisy suffers from extreme insomnia and goes to a clinic that specializes in it. Daisy has a secret that is causing her insomnia and someone at the clinic is determined to reveal it. The ending definitely had a twist I didn't see coming at all which made the book even better. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced reader copy.

Sometimes things are not what they appear to be. Daisy suffers from insomnia. It is not only affecting her home life, but her work life, as well. Out of the blue comes an answer to her prayers. Or so she thinks. She has the opportunity to stay at a new high-end spa and participate in sleep therapy. Little does she know, there is more in store for her than just a relaxing time and addressing her sleep issue. There are some good plot twists and turns as well as hints of things in the past that are being revisited in the present. All in all, an enjoyable read. Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for the opportunity to review this book.

Unsettling Undercurrent…
A luxurious sleep spa stay turns to nightmare in this tense, immersive suspense. Daisy thinks that the sleep clinic will be the answer to her prayers and, when asked to review it, jumps at the chance. All is not as it seems and soon Daisy is in turmoil. Will her past catch up with her? She’s not sure but she knows that the visit to the clinic is proving to be the worst mistake she has made. A chilling suspense with a tense and unsettling undercurrent and a well drawn cast.

The Insomniac is a gripping novel of psychological suspense. Miranda Rijks is an accomplished writer and, for me, her stories never disappoint.
The protagonist, Daisy, dreamed of becoming an investigative journalist, but her career has floundered due to her chronic insomnia. She is reduced to writing lightweight pieces for a lifestyle magazine.
When her editor, Garth, sends her to the therapeutic Serinity Spa, he hopes her insomnia will be cured and his magazine will be able to publish a first person evaluation of the spa, written by Daisy.
Serinity Spa and its owner, Amity, are complicated and both are imbued with a creepy vibe. Daisy feels increasingly uneasy and fearful for her safety.
The tension ramps up inexorably, secrets are revealed, and the ultimate twist is excellent! The chapters are told in alternating POVs of Daisy and Amity, which adds to the drama as the reader is treated to their inner thoughts and motivations. This story kept me engaged from beginning to end!
I highly recommend this book to readers who like psychological suspense with strong female characters and well-developed plots.

Love this author!!! Read it in a day with barely any breaks, but the breaks that I took just meant that I was thinking about it and wanted to get back to it! With such believable characters because they are far from perfect, a really gripping read with lots of twists and turns to keep me wanting more……. The story is tense and thrilling and keeps you turning the pages until the end. Recommended! Gift yourself a copy, because you'll probably read the whole thing in one sitting. I was very impressed, perfectly structured.

As a bit of an insomniac myself, I found myself drawn to the title of this book. Miranda Rijks presents an interesting plot involving Daisy, a journalist who suffers from insomnia. When offered the opportunity to experience a luxurious sleep clinic, in return for a review, daisy accepts the opportunity. The clinic is sumptuous in every detail and run by the immaculate, glamorous therapist Amity who tells Daisy her insomnia may get worse before it gets better. Is that the course of the treatment or does Amity have something to hide? A good thriller - I enjoyed it although I did guess some of the twists and turns!

This was a quick read thriller that held my interest throughout. I was kind of expecting a far worse secret but I suppose the ensuing issues due to said secret made for a fun book so I'm not really complaining. This was my first book by this author but I will surely be looking at their backlist!

It’s slightly fitting that I began reading this at 3am as I gave up on getting back to sleep.
Daisy is a mother of two, happily married and works as a journalist so a free week at this retreat centre in return for a review is an ideal two for one if it can assist with her chronic insomnia. Unfortunately her host has a few plans for her…

I enjoyed this story of a woman trying to return to a normal sleeping pattern by visiting a retreat that promises help with a number of issues. The variation in conditions it offers to help with means that our central character is unique and cannot compare her regime with anyone else’s. So when things seem to be rather unusual it isolates her more. The owner/director lives off site and has her own intriguing home life that impacts on the story.

I received an arc copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for my honest opinion of it. The book is told in parts by Daisy, a reporter and by Amity, a woman who is a psychologist and owns a luxurious spa. Daisy has suffered many years with insomnia and is invited to stay at a luxurious spa for a week to overcome it. Everything starts out really good but then things begin to happen and Daisy wonders who Amity really is and if she somehow learns if her secret that even her husband does not know about. I enjoyed the book and did feel like it was a little predictable.
