Thank you NetGalley for the eARC. I read the first book and this one was just as good. I love to read anything historical and this author does that so well.

This is Book Two of the Stuart Monarch series. After the death of the queen of Scotland, William Broune, almoner’s son, begins to serve king James VI, at court. As William is forced to serve as the king’s inquisitor in the North Berwick witch trials, he must choose between doing as ordered by the king or follow his heart and do the right thing.
I didn’t read book one and will now do so. I’m looking forward to reading the entire series.

I actually like this but I feel like I could have liked it more if I was in the mood for historical fiction. The writing wowed me and now I’m tempted to read the first one. So a short summary, the MMC in this book is the son of the almoner who’s the main guy in the first book apparently. The second book is set in the time of James the first and sixth’s reign. During that time period, there were a lot of witch hunts and our guy here is tasked to be hunt them but he’s tempted with this woman who suspected to be a witch. Hence the forbidden part.

I love historical romance, so the Stuart Monarch series excited me! I went back and read The Queen's Almoner... did not disappoint.

It has such a good storyline! I was so well written! The characters were great, it was believable for the time period, and I have really enjoyed this book, and the first in the series! Fingers crossed for more books!

I really enjoyed the well written story of a time back then were women were thought of nothing but property. The dark stories of the King and his men searching through the land for people who he thought was against him was very cold for me to read. I appreciate the writer for supplying facts that supports the story that is told. The story was very entertaining for me.

The suspense was good with plenty of action. The romance was well done with plenty of realistic conflict between the characters. I’m looking forward to the next in the series.

I felt that romance played a bigger role than the witch hunt in this novel. That was for me a bit disappointing as I had hoped to learn more about historical events than read a predictable love story. Good writing though revealing King James as a believable character.
I received a complimentary ARC of this novel from NetGalley and I am leaving voluntarily a review.

I love historical novels, so this Stuart Monarch series was right up my alley. I enjoyed getting to continue this series from the previous book The Queen's Almoner. The storyline was so well done and I enjoyed that it felt like it belonged in this time period. The characters were what I wanted and thoughly enjoyed going through this book. I hope there is more in this series.

"I didn’t know who this glorious creature was, but she was enchanting. Perhaps she was a witch. Her amber eyes burned with what she perceived to be injustice."
