Thank you to #Netgalley for the advanced copy of the audiobook. I enjoyed the narrator and hearing about the authors personal story. Although I did enjoy it, it is not one that stands out among other memoirs I’ve recently read.

This was a well-written memoir with a really moving ending. Breen shares her journey to better understand herself and explore her role as a mother and friend. I found the overall pace of the book a bit slow, but it was still an interesting read.

Thanks to NetGalley for the audiobook ARC.

Any Kind of Luck at All is an interesting memoir of a life of love, drama, and tragedy. I found the author's anecdotes interesting and entertaining. I didn't always agree with the decisions she made along the way, but then again, neither did she in hindsight!

The narration was a good complement to the text, and added to the overall enjoyment of the book.

Thank you to NetGalley and Second Story Press / ECW Press Audio for access to the audiobook of Any Kind of Luck at All by Mary Fairhurst Breen in exchange for an honest review.

In this memoir, Breen tells her story of growing into her own self-acceptance, aided by her relationships with her close friends and her daughter.

I don't have a ton to say about this memoir. At many points it seemed to lack a larger "so what" message. While there were sections of this book that were quite compelling, particularly when discussing her relationship with her daughter, I found myself disengaged and bored through the majority of the book. The ending was the shining moment, in which Breen spoke beautifully about her daughter's life and how she fought so hard to keep her demons at bay. Breen spoke with honesty and transparency and left the readers with a call to action about the changes that need to be introduced into mental health care and substance use care. We always love a proponent of harm reduction. Thank you, Mary, for sharing your story.

Read by the author, this memoir is full of humour alongside the tragic and challenging events in Mary's life. I found it interesting and very sad at times, but there wasn't anything that particularly stood out for me that would make this stand out amongst the other memoirs that I have read and listened to.

A bittersweet read. To follow the story of Mary Fairhurst Breen’s life was a rollercoaster ride. Never before have I felt so intimately connected to an author after reading their memoir. With moments of self-discovery, family struggles, loss, and love, anyone can pick up this book and relate to Breen’s story on some level.
My only issue with the book was the sequence. I found the chapter transitions loose and inorganic. Looking back, I can see why the memoir was structured this way; however, a different approach would’ve facilitated a better reading experience.
Altogether unfiltered, heartbreaking, and humorous.

I have a hard time rating memoirs. This one was funny, heartbreaking, and inspiring. I am so glad to have gotten to hear Mary's life story and how she raised such strong daughters. Thank you to NetGalley for the audiobook ARC. The narration was so well done.

Thank you net galley for providing me with an arc of Any kind of luck at all in exchange for a honest review.

Brutally honest, this book takes you to the rollercoaster of Breens childhood years up to her 60s. Although there were enjoyable traits to the book (the humor,Breens way of describing things and emotions as well as acknowledging past mistakes) the constant back and forth was distracting and even tiring at times.

Honest account of acceptance, finding yourself, moving into the wisdom years memoir. All the things you want your kids to understand about their heritage and genes, the family traits. Opening the conversation regarding mental illness and what is normal. This memoir could be about many women I know, the writing is heartfelt and honest even through the bereavement of a child. I'l be honest I had never heard of the author before reading the book but will look out for more books from her. Thank you #NetGalley for the audiobook to review.

The 3 star rating isn't because the book is bad, it's actually beautifully written. You can tell the author has lived through the issues discussed as her writing is empathetic and makes you feel her emotions as you read. It's heartbreaking and uplifting and the emotions are so raw I don't think I will forget this, because despite the difficult subject matter it easy to relate to the and make you want to read more #netgalley #AndyKindOfLuckAtAll
