The Interpreter by Brooke Robinson

From what I’ve read this is going to be a thrilling & exciting read. This excerpt has definitely stirred my interest and I look forward to reading the full book when it is released.

Oops, missed the part of the blurb that noted this was a book sampler, not the entire novel. Well, mission accomplished, this sampler has completely whetted my appetite and I can't wait to read the full novel!

I've only read a sample but it was enough to put the title in my to buy and read and offer list. Why you may ask? Well to start with the main character is not your usual damage, lonely or fun heroine. She is a complex characters but also an interpreter. As a bilingual myself I love the idea that you can be a different person when you speak a different language. The fact she is a single mum adopter. And finally her morals and frustration as the injustices she encounters which anybody can relate to. Very excited to read the full book.

This was a great sample and I wanted to know more.
I do question whether someone in the early stages of an adoption would leave the child with a stranger but either way it had me intrigued.
I will keep an eye out for this being released.

What a great taster for the book, can't wait to read it. Although I question why a mother would leave her son with a stranger on the street outside a court. Not very realistic and made me not like the main character.

good sampler, and I look forward to the full version in 2023 - can't wait to get my hands on this!
I loved how different the plot is.

Thanks Netgalley, Random House UK, Vintage, Brooke Robinson for approving the sampler

Book:

I enjoyed reading the sample and I'm very intrigued by the story - it's unlike anything I've ever read before. I really liked the author's style and found it very easy to get into the story. There's something about the way the prologue is written that sucks you in immediately. Another thing I really liked is that we get to read about the MC's personal and professional life and how she's juggling it, the fear of being a bad mother and potentially losing her child etc. It made the character seem more real. I do wish the sample was a bit longer though and featured one chapter about Revelle deliberately mis-translating an alibi, as that's what's at the core of the story, according to the synopsis. While I really liked the chapters I got sent, it would have been interesting to get a glimpse into the main story too.

Cover:

I think the design could be more compelling. At the moment, it's the text that made me want to check out the book, which is fine, but a lot of people judge a book by the cover design and I am not sure the current one would grab enough people's attention, which is a shame because I think that the story itself is very promising.

Overall:

I think the story is intriguing, I loved the style and enjoyed the chapters I got to read but it's a shame I can't say anything about the plot that's meant to be at the core of the story. I think the cover design could look nicer.

I just finished reading the three chapter sampler of The Interpreter and it did exactly what it set out to do, it made me put this book straight to the top of my 'to be read' list.

Interesting from the outset with just enough intrigue to whet my appetite. The synopsis promises more and now I can't wait to read the rest of the book. Sadly its not being released until next year.

What a teaser! This is a cracking opening chapter pulling you straight into the story and leaving you wanting more. I love the writing style as you instantly get the feel of an edgy atmosphere and that sense that something sinister and dark is looming. I can’t wait to read the rest.

Oh my god, I cannot wait to read the full piece. The way this ends is just making me beg for more information, and as a linguist myself I'm loving how it's written.

Wow! Finally a book sith a unique plot line and it looks incredible. It's a plot that I've never read before and that is completely fresh. im dying for the entire book to be released!! From the sample provided, it captures you from the start and seems to already have quite a few threads running through the plot so I'm excited to see how they all developed and get deeper into each character. There seems to be a good pace and it appears we'll researched to make it realistic. So far, so good. I'm really looking forward to getting lost in this once on release date

I honestly did not know it was only a sampler, not a complete novel. I truly wish it were one! What I read was absolutely brilliant and I can't wait to read it completely once it comes out. You are glued to the pages right from the start and it's absolutely horrible to not be able to continue reading...

I received this sampler of The Interpreter by Brooke Robinson via Netgalley from Random House UK, Vintage.

The Interpreter looks to be an exciting step into the world of interpreting and I look forward to seeing what happens next.

As someone who has done BSL to English interpreting I loved to see how Robinson explored the role of the interpreter as some of the challenges that come with the job. People often treat interpreters as the person involved or on one side, whereas they are impartial and providing a service, and Robinson does a good job of explaining this whilst setting the scene for her character and their son. You can tell from reading the opening few scenes that something is going to happen, but what is not yet apparent.

This is the literary equivalent of watching a trailer at the cinema, just enough to tease you into the book and letting you know it's going to be amazing. Can't wait until this one comes out and praying for an ARC of the full book.

“A clever, compulsive psychological thriller for fans of Louise Candlish, Harriet Tyce and Sarah Vaughan.

INNOCENT OR GUILTY. IT'S ALL A MATTER OF INTERPRETATION...

A childhood spent moving around the world left Revelle Lee with an unusual gift - the ability to fluently speak 11 languages. Now, Revelle spends her days translating for witnesses, victims, and the accused across London crime scenes and courtrooms. It's a stressful job, though not as stressful as the process she is currently going through to adopt little boy, Elliot. She is determined to be the mother to him that she never had, and to make up for her own past mistakes.

But when it seems a murderer will go free, Revelle puts the adoption and her job at risk, deliberately mis-translating the alibi to ensure he is found guilty. No one can ever find out that she interfered or she will lose her son and her livelihood.

The problem is someone already knows what she's done... and they want justice of their own.

If you enjoyed The Silent Patient, you'll love The Interpreter.“

This book is not published until June but already from this short sample, it is clear that #TheInterpreter is going to take 2023 by storm.

Ahhh how frustrating!
I didn’t realise it was a sample so I’d got myself all comfy and settled in for the evening only to be teased by this book!
I am now desperate to read the rest, it’s going to be an awful long wait until publication day.
Believe the hype, this book is going to be huge!
