The secret is slow burn psychological thriller told through two POVs. The first half of the book was fairly slow but then it does start to pick up the pace.
Nicole is a successful Councillor who is also dealing with her own PTSD from an event where she was stalked. When Nicole takes on a new client, Nicole becomes suspicious of their strange behaviour. She begins to panic and she's unsure if they are a threat or if her family is at risk. There's repetitive things happening that have previously happened in the past, but who can she trust, are they linked and what's the secret the new client holds?
This is a quick read and very mellow on the thriller element, but still an enjoyable read.

A quick read. Fast paced with mystery and suspense. It took me a while to get past the grating writing style. The characters were shallow and stereotypical. The ending totally sucked. It was lacking explanation and did not wrap things up. It was abrupt and felt forced.

The secret by Kevin Lynch.
Some people will do anything to keep a secret.
Really good read. Slow at first. I liked Nicole and Daniel. 4*.

The Secret Is a first time novel by this author for
me. The storyline sounded interesting because the main character is a therapist, who has been traumatized by a stalking client but then resumes working professionally. She ended up taking on a new mysterious client and her professional judgement is in question when she encounters a strange series of events, that are unusual for one person.
I personally enjoyed the words that followed the main character and her profession, and could relate and found it engaging. As for the rest of the characters, they felt very misaligned. The therapist and ex broke up but the two have gotten involved with new people. The two felt very mismatched to their new partners.
The plot was interesting but the chapters alternate from main character to the ex’s point of view.
I was invested to uncover the mystery behind the incidents but hugely disappointed by the outcome. I felt it didn’t really explain much and even the motive was vague. The string of events didn’t make sense with why she was targeted and the culprit and motives appear unclear.
The ending fell flat quickly and left me disappointed. I feel the whole story dragged and was overdone with so much suspense leaving the reader to consider many potential suspects but did poorly in tying it up very well together. I do not think I would recommend this one as this left me very confused.

Thank you so much NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.
This is the first book which I have read by Kevin Lynch and it definitely won't be the last!!! I absolutely loved this book. I thought the main characters of Daniel and Nicole were great and to be honest, I never liked Pamela.
The Secret kept me guessing all throughout the book, which I love. I never guessed once who the "stalker" was.
The Secret by Kevin Lynch is very well written, gripping and keeps you on the edge of your reading chair, wanting to read the next chapter to see what happens next!!!
What a fantastic read!!!

The Secret by Kevin Lynch was a simple story that ended up having a very exciting end. Nicole is a therapist who has a son, boyfriend and an ex husband She has gone through a traumatic experience with a stalking patient but has seemingly moved on from that. Strange things started happening and now Nicole wonders if someone is stalking her again. Her ex husband who she has a good relationship with also thinks something is going on and starts to investigate.
There are few times I wanted to yell at Nicole for not being a little more careful. She definitely at times had her rose colored glasses on. However, in all, this is a very good weekend read and I would recommend it to others.

This was a very quick read for me, the storyline was good but it’s similar to other books I’ve read before so not really new for me. The characters were ok but I couldn’t really relate to the main characters, it was written from 2 perspectives which I liked.

3.5/5 stars
Thank you Netgally, the publishers, and Kevin Lynch for allowing me to read and review this book.
This was a very good and quick thriller to read. The characters were interesting and the plot was easy to follow. The mystery held you until the very end and left you guessing the whole time.
I had several theories about who the stalker was throughout the story, but I was not sure until right before it was revealed. The characters where extremely well written. And the tension was very high at times, leaving me on the edge of my seat.
Definitely a book I would recommend to someone looking for a well written quick thriller to read.

The Secret- in this story everyone has one and they will all be exposed. This was a fast placed thriller and overall a great story! One of our main characters, Nicole, has previously had a stalker and she is still recovering from the trauma when odd things begin to happen again. For me there were too many parts that didn’t add up. For instance when she loses her keys- anyone with her history, honestly anyone in general, wouldn’t wait an extra minute to change all the locks! This story switches back and forth between Nicole and her ex Danny and I enjoyed the different points of view. Looking forward to reading more by the author! Thank you #NetGalley and #InkubatorBooks for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review!

The Secret
by Kevin Lynch
The book is pretty good. I was under the impression maybe I missed a first book or a third. It seemed it went along well, except it just ended abruptly. A cliffhanger? Either way I did read it, and just wanted an ending.

Engaging, Snappy Suspense…
Things have been on the up for Nicole - especially after previous traumatic events. She is now in a good place. At least, she is until a new client comes along and a series of bizarre and unsettling events threatens to destroy her happy existence. Could the tumultuous events of her past come rushing back to engulf for a second time? Engaging and snappy psychological suspense with a nicely crafted cast of characters.

Nicole is living a good life and she’s looking forward to the future. She’s has a child, a new partner and an amicable relationship with her ex husband. She’s a therapist and her practice is successful. In her life, she had a stalker and she wishes to put that horrid situation in the past. Until, the day she takes on a new client and strange things start to happen. She’s afraid that these events will have her past come rushing back. An exciting psychological thriller with some twists.

Really not my thing. I normally enjoy short reads but this seemed too short as it was lacking in depth with regard to both characters and story

A one sitting short thrilling read.
I like the pace and the unassuming plot the best in this.
It's the story of a couple who got separated trying to build a new life for themselves with different partners. The couple has a good relationship and Nicole shares custody of their son with her ex-husband.
A secret, a traumatic incident still bugs Nicole. She goes back to being a therapist nevertheless but she's under a constant fear for the past to repeat.
And it does seem like it's repeating with a vengeance!
I would say the first half is a bit slow. However, the second half is just the thrill you are looking for in thrillers.
Short and well-written with convincing characters, pick up this book if you are looking for a short thriller with a good twist towards the end.
Thank you, Inkubator Books, for the advance reading copy.

I really struggled with this novel. I had about three false starts. The characters were unrelatable and did not develop throughout the novel

I enjoyed reading this book and got hooked up easily in one seat. I thought the secret would be dark and deep, but well. Still a good book.

Good reading and well written book.
The book is a story told by two people. They report events from their daily lives, sometimes with different points of view. They are Nicole, a counselor, and Daniel her ex-husband. These two continue to see each other and take care of their son, despite the fact that everyone has rebuilt his life on his side.
Nicole is facing strange events organized by a counterpart who wants to destabilize her and make her lose her mind. We won't find the full explanation until the end of the book. Personally I could not guess before that.
I recommend this book for fans of psychological mysteries.

This ARC was provided to me via Kindle, from Inkubator Books and NetGalley. Thank you for the opportunity to preview and review.
I enjoyed this book well enough, but it wasn't anything groundbreaking. The plot was engaging and kept me guessing, but I was a bit disappointed by how quickly the conclusion to the story came. It felt rushed and was a bit overwhelming.
I also found the writing style and character development to be a bit flat. The main character was unreliable, and the other characters fit into specific stereotypes and never quite branched out. It overall felt a bit unrealistic and it was difficult for me to connect with the characters.
I'd recommend this book to anybody looking for a suspenseful, quick read. I enjoyed the overall idea of the story, but I feel that it could have been executed better in order to reach its full potential.

Thank you Net Galley and Inkubator Books for giving me an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
When it said it was a psychological thriller, it was very much a psychological thriller that was incredibly gripping and hard to put down - I read this all in one sitting. This book was very well written as I was feeling tense and I had to know what was going to happen next. Occasionally, I felt that the plot dropped a bit in excitement, but it quickly picked up again.
The reason why I didn’t give it a higher rating was because it wasn’t that unique or incredibly different from other books I’ve read from the same genre.
Overall, I did like this book and felt surprised by the plot twists - I did not see them coming. I would recommend The Secret to anyone who is into crime, horror, thriller and mystery books as this is very much up your alley.
I also suggest that you read the content warnings before reading this book, as PTSD and stalking is quite graphic in this book. Content warnings: [https://app.thestorygraph.com/books/312a1a67-0f98-4c1f-971d-c9e8c701313b/content_warnings]
