My first read from this author and I may just have to break by book buying bun and go and purchase books 1-2! Burn can be read as a standalone inan interconnected series.

Declan and Olivia's story is one of slow-burn romance, second-chance love with a heap of action.

Declan worked undercover a Bio2Chem, and when he was injured in an "accident" that left him with physical injuries and amnesia. He has returned to see if he uncover what happened to him and his inside man, er woman is none other than Olivia.

Olivia has reasons to have some animosity towards Declan. They began with a chemistry-filled verbal sparring match which elevated to more, She didn't realise why he can't remember her and just assumes he's a pig of a human being!

There must be mention of a certain pint sized charmer, one who can twist any of these big Alpha men around her little finger! Great characters, sparky dialogue and big action scenes. I am a very happy girlie!

This was ok, but not for me. I thought the plot was good, but I didn't like Declan. He is too broody for my liking, which made it hard to stay engaged with the story. The rest of the characters were alright, but I don't think this is a series for me.

This is book 3 in the Deep 8 series and it can be read as a stand-alone or apart of the series. Either way readers will not be lost as they start book 3. The author creates a world that romantic suspense readers will fall in love with and never want to leave.

This is a perfect romantic suspense story with your alpha men, strong females and one little girl readers will enjoy her ability to bring the story into the real world.

Thank you to Netgally for a copy of Kenzie Macallan Burn

Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (3.5)
Trope: second chance, secret baby, protector
Angst: 😱😱😱
Smexy: 🔥🔥

Burn is the 3rd book in the Deep 8 series by Kenzie Macallan. This is the first book I've read by her and I did not feel lost having not read the first two books. Not really sure if this author is for me. The books are well written, with a TON of action from beginning to end, but I just really had a hard time getting into it and the characters felt a bit flat to me for some reason. Personally, I also had a hard time with the heroine's reasoning for keeping Declan in the dark (after he met his daughter) for as long as she did. But maybe that's just me. I do think that a lot of people who are fans of romantic suspense will enjoy this - especially if you've already read the previous books.

This is a new to me author, and I’m now running to check out the rest of this series.

Burn is book 3 in the Deep 8 series, but you don’t need to have read previous books to dive into this story. It had me on the edge of my seat from the start, lots of danger, suspense and action. It’s one of those stories that has you thinking, and wondering what’s going to happen next. Really good!

I really really liked this one. I have not (somehow) read any of the other books in this series - but I didn't have any problem catching on to what was happening. Declan is/was an M16 agent and a scientist. Which frankly is pretty amazing considering getting your PhD takes a lot of time and he is pretty young to have figured that all out, and been an MI6 agent, and having been injured 5 years ago and been pretty much off the grid since then. Declan is back in Cologne, Germany to investigate a terrible drug that removes memories. A drug that seriously injured a friend and fellow team member. Cologne is where Declan was seriously hurt in a lab fire during a previous assignment. He has only limited memories of his time there - but the resulting injuries changed his life in every way possible.

Olivia is a senior scientist that the company Declan is investigating. She and Declan have HISTORY - history that he has only limited memories of. Five years later Olivia is a single mom and dedicated to finding cures to terrible childhood diseases. She's very tough and has reasons not to fully embrace Declan's return. But as things quickly escalate between them and with the case - she and Declan have to rely on each other.

Just for full transparency - this is definitely a secret baby book. I usually avoid secret baby books because, as one of my favorite authors once said, the reason for the secret has to be air tight. Luckily in this book it is - for the most part.

There are definitely a few things that kept me back from giving it five stars - and a few areas where some editing was needed to clarify and keep things consistent. I kept getting confused as to whether Declan and the guys worked for MI6 or a security firm - and who exactly was in charge. Maybe this would have been more clear if I had read the other books. Also - Poppy is one seriously precocious 4 year old. I also did keep getting lost in some of the past history Declan talks about - especially with his brothers. I felt like I should be more aware of that somehow? But it doesn't look like other books in this series tackled his brother Mac - but maybe that was in another series. Anyway - while it wasn't a problem to start here - I did sometimes feel like I was missing some key background information.

Overall I enjoyed it and will probably go back and read the first two books now!

I received this as an ARC via NetGalley, but these opinions are all my own.

I LOVE military and security romance and want to bring more attention to it - because simply put, it’s always phenomenal! You get action and suspense but also a building love story. And the men always tend to be of the alpha variety.

Declan Is a former MI-6 agent being sent back to a biotech firm in Germany that left him with a lot of scars and questions in the past. Olivia is a biochemist at the firm with a complicated past. She discovers a drug that is designed to harm soldiers and in comes Declan to “save the day”.

We have second chance with just thew right amount of angst and steam. There is always something intriguing in the story that keeps you hooked and engaged. Not just between these two and their relationship but everything they are facing individually and together.

Top notch suspense. I was riveted to the pages and couldn’t turn them fast enough. Angst, suspense, mystery, this book has it all. The writing is wonderful. I look forward to the next book in the series.

4 1/2 stars

Did you say second chance romance, steamy romance, and an intricate plot? I’m in! And boy are you in for a wonderful story too. Declan, ex-MI-6, now a team member for MBK Global Security is back in Cologne, Germany, where things went to the doghouse five years prior. Unfortunately, a part of his memory also went as well and this causes him to feel like he is missing some vital information, which, of course, he is!

I found the story grabbed my attention in the beginning and it held it but it was a tad sluggish, mind you, it could have been me. When things start happening it becomes so intense I couldn’t stop reading, I desperately wanted, no, I needed to know what happens. The action and drama are incredible and fully develop into a clearer puzzle with pieces slotting in more rapidly.

The lead characters, Declan and Olivia, are terrific because they don’t sugarcoat things. Special mention should go to Poppy who is an absolute delight, a ray of sunshine in a murky world of chemically enhanced evilness. Talking about evil… when this author creates these characters she goes all out! Holy moly, talk about the devil in disguise!

Throughout are great descriptions, which makes it easy to visualize each scene, each character, and their expressions. This description of the drama at one point is a terrific example… “This is an amusement park ride without an end.”

This is the first book by this author that I have read but it definitely won’t be the last. I highly recommend this book to everyone who enjoys excitement, adventure, and romance.

This is the third book in this amazing series. Declan is a former MI-6 agent who has a tragic past, and he lives his life in the shadows, until his cover is blown, and he finds himself heading to Germany to a firm which left him with scars and no memory. Olivia has a complicated past, and she is a scientist who is fighting to keep her secrets hidden. This is a well written storyline, with am intricate and in-depth plot, and is action packed, with angst, suspense, romance, intrigue, emotions, secrets, and trust, which leads to a riveting page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

With every book from Kenzie Macallan, she consistently proves she is an AMAZING, talented author! One who has risen to one of my auto-click, MUST READ authors! Burn is the third book in the suspenseful, un-put-downable Deep 8 series which CAN be read as a standalone and let me just say that Declan and Olivia's slow-burn love story does NOT disappoint! This book is packed with Ms. Macallan's signature style and is, in my opinion, her BEST one in the series (so far!)

Declan Craig returns to Bio2Chem, a company he worked for in the past, when an "accident" leaves him with physical (and emotional) scars and a loss of memory....when he meets his contact and discovers it's none other than Dr. Olivia Marcel, the woman he remembers having an animosity-filled relationship with. He also feels all kinds of other things, the least of which is a chemistry that he finds confusing. Olivia, on the other hand, is desperately trying to keep her secret while also feeling that same chemistry...again! She's unaware of the reasons for Declan's "disappearance" five years earlier and has a hard time trusting the man he's become.

The slow-burn aspect of this INCREDIBLE love story is perfectly paced! The emotions, the angst, the sizzling chemistry and EXPLOSIVE conclusion all make this one an UNFORGETTABLE MUST READ!!! I can't WAIT to see what the next book in this series will uncover...whatever it is, I'm here for it!!!

*I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.*

"Burn" is Book No. 3 in the Deep 8 series. I read it as a standalone and had no problem following along. As a matter of fact, I loved the book so much that I will definitely read more in the series and also read other books written by Kenzie Macallan. She is a wonderful author and storyteller. You will feel all the emotions of the characters; love them, hate them and understand them.

"Burn" follows the story of Declan (strong, sexy military guy) and Olivia's (strong and intelligent) past and present relationship. And there is a little twist to the story that keeps you wanting to read more.

A romantic suspense story featuring a wounded hero with memory loss and a heroine hiding a big secret, “Burn”, by Kenzie Macallan, has a lot of action, drama and a bunch of characters connected by blood, friendship and camaraderie.
Declan, the Dark Lord, has gone through a lot of pain. I liked the sweet and relatively easy reunion with Olivia and the swift transition into family life. Declan and Olivia really deserve a happy ending.
The story relies too much on dialogue and the main characters talking about their feelings, emotions and experiences. Combining this with the suspense plot and the several dangerous episodes happening there’s a tendency to turn sometimes into non rational and even careless decisions.
I always enjoy a tortured, wounded hero, but Declan’s eloquence proved something of an anticlimax; for me, he was just talking too much and revealing too much (something strange for a former MI-6 agent).
The over-description of often mundane activities made the reading process a bit monotonous and I didn’t’ enjoy the author’s strategy of relying on dialogue to convey sometimes important information; some aspects seemed implausible.
Also Declan’s “alpha male attractiveness”, his “strong, lithe body” and the fluidity of his gait felt at odds with the extent of injuries that would somehow impair and slow him.

Declan can not remember the last five years of his life after the accident that left his burned with raised bums from the scarring. He has attempted to hide the scars by getting inked / tattooed. He has a small tattoo of a Poppy over his heart. He was chosen to go under cover again to find the chemist that is making drugs that are causing Military operatives to forget their missions.

Olivia remembers how Declan was five years ago when he was under cover on another assignment, She does not understand / or believe the changes Declan has made in the five years since they last worked together. Her Uncle is the head of the organization (Ex-MI6 operators) that Declan works for..

As the two work together and truths begin to surface for Declan they realize that they still have deep feelings for each other - plus a soon to be 5 year old daughter.

The story was very fast paced and enjoyable - leaving the reader on the edge of the seat.

A good action packed book with a soft centre. Declan is scarred both inside and out, with burns all giving him bumps all over this skin. He and Liv have a past, but one that he can’t quite remember or picture . As things start to go very wrong at the chemical firm where Liv works, the big guns need to be called in and as memories come back, Declan realises what Liv means to him. A great shot gun toting mother and some fluffy creatures add to the story.
