This was such a thrilling read and had me hooked from the first page! This started off slow but I was still invested right from the start.
This story is told in multiple POVS, which I love in books, and there was so many twists and turns and I didn’t know who to trust.
I would definitely recommend this to any thriller fans!

When Amaya receives an invitation to Kaavi's extravagant wedding in Sri Lanka, it sparks a mix of surprise and lingering hurt, considering the long period of silence between them. However, her shock deepens when she discovers that the groom is none other than her ex-boyfriend. Driven by a singular determination, Amaya resolves to halt the wedding at any cost.

As the opulent weeklong celebrations commence and whispers about Amaya's past circulate, an unsettling feeling settles in—she becomes acutely aware of a metaphorical target on her back. The situation takes a darker turn when Kaavi mysteriously disappears, presumed dead, and all signs point to Amaya.

This storyline captivated me with its intriguing blend of drama, the vibrant setting in Sri Lanka, the lavish wedding, and the influence of social media. I was fully immersed in the world of gossiping Aunties, the vivid descriptions of splendid attire and delectable cuisine, and the whirlwind romance between the seemingly perfect Kaavi and her prince charming, Spencer. The narrative skillfully unravels secrets, revealing that the more flawless someone appears, the more hidden imperfections they harbor.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for sending a digital ARC in exchange for an honest review.

As a Sri Lankan living in Colombo I found this entertaining. At times it was a scathing insight into life as we know it. The problem with unreliable narrators is that you know there's something they are not saying and although it drives the plot forward it can also be a little tiresome. The twist at the end was not as big as in the author's previous book. Also I'm in two minds whether we actually needed to see everything through Kaavi's eyes as I just wanted to skim through those chapters...

Thank you to NetGalley and Hodder & Stoughton for this ARC! A few of my favourite book reviewers said really good things about this so I wanted to check it out!

This is a thriller following Amaya who has randomly been invited to her ex best friend Kaavi’s wedding. They haven’t spoken in five years and the big kick in the teeth? Kaavi is marrying her ex boyfriend Spencer. Now Amaya is prepared to do whatever it takes to stop the wedding and when the bride goes missing on the day, all fingers point at Amaya. Now Amaya is stuck in Sri Lanka being questioned for Kaavi’s disappearance and many dark secrets are about to be revealed.

This was so JUICY. There were so many twists and turns, so much rich people drama. I really enjoyed the Sri Lankan backdrop as well as I’ve never read a book set in Sri Lanka before. I could really feel that heat! The plot unfolded slowly over time with things being hinted at for a while before they were fully explained which I really liked because it kept me guessing. I started to see where some plot points were going but even then I didn’t fully guess the twists. The last third of this book is absolutely action packed as well.

The characters were so relatable and also unlikeable to a certain extent. The main character Amaya was probably the only character I ended up really respecting by the end of the book but I think that was intended. Amaya also obviously has OCD but it wasn’t referred to explicitly which I personally found interesting because I also suffer with OCD, some of which concerns patterns like Amaya’s does.

Amanda Jayatissa is an incredibly talented author whose writing hooks you right up to the end of the book. I can’t wait to read more of her work! You can check this out now as it was released back on 11th August 2022 so if you’ve been wanting to read this, bump it up on your TBR!

I loved it! A totally different read. I loved the setting and learning more about Sri Lanka culture and the hierarchy in the capital city. A great read with lots of twists. A perfect marriage for Instagram until the big day.

I was really excited to get into this book mostly because it’s written by an author from my own country and also because I liked her first book.
But I found this story rather predictable. It just didn’t have enough suspense and kept dragging on. I would probably give her future books a try but this just didn’t do much for me.

This was my second novel by Amanda Jayatissa. I thoroughly the author's début novel and this one, You're Invited was great as well. Here, Amaya is invited to Kaavi's wedding in Sri Lanka. Kaavi is her best friend, though they haven't communicated in a very long while until now. When Amaya realises that the groom is her ex she is gutted. The story wass told using investigator interview transcripts, as well as from the perspectives of Amaya, and Kaavi through her social media account. The ending was not one I was expecting. Terrificallly good and engrossing.

I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Hodder & Stoughton via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.

Unfortunately this one wasn't for me however I do think it's a great option for anyone looking to ease in to the thriller genre. The premise and the backdrop are great and the author did a great job of creating a tense atmosphere however I felt that some of the twists and the ending were a little lackluster - I also had some issues with the pacing. I think anyone new to the mystery/thriller genre will find this a compelling ready however for me, it wasn't as strong as story as I would've liked.

When you find out that your best friend is marrying your ex boyfriend what would you do. I was utterly gripped with this thrilling story. I was literally glued to the pages. I recommend this physcological thriller highly.

This was another wonderful story from Amanda Jayatissa, I thoroughly enjoyed her first book and this was as enjoyable.

A story of friendship, jealousy, misunderstanding and tragedy, with an amazingly exotic location with a very traditional culture.

Would recommend.

This book was a breath of fresh air amongst other mystery novels set around wedding celebrations! The colorful background and some very twisty characters turn it into a great read!

Firstly, the setting of Sri Lanka was amazing. I loved reading about the country. I thought this book was super pacy and I raced through it. I guessed one of the major twists pretty early on but still loved to watch it all unfold.

I saw this book with rave reviews so I started reading it, cold turkey not knowing what to expect. I was hooked from the start assuming the story would go the way I thought it would however I couldn’t have been more wrong. Written from different POV’s in the months and days leading up to Kaavi’s wedding, you get a sense of the spoilt an in d twisted lives Kaavi and her family have, appearance is everything. However, I don’t think anything could’ve prepared me for this story. It was more twisted and thrilling than I could’ve imagined. So cleverly written, I’m still coming down from the shock revelations in the story. If you get the chance to read this, it truly is amazing.

I love a wedding whodunnit, and YOU'RE INVITED delivered spectacularly on that point. The Sri Lankan setting was such a treat and so fresh, and I thought the multiple perspectives were handled brilliantly. I'm excited to read more from Amanda.

After reading Jayatissa's debut last year, I was very excited to read You're Invited. While it didn't quite live up to my (admittedly high) expectations, I did thoroughly enjoy this one. There are some fantastic twists, complicated family dynamics and you're never quite sure what's going on and who to trust which are all signs of a great thriller in my opinion. The only reason it didn't quite hit the mark for me was that it was maybe a bit too surreal at times. Overall, still a great read that I suspect will be a hit with many mystery and thriller fans - especially those that love a bit of wedding drama!

I'd read the author's debut, My Sweet Girl, and it was one of my favourite reads of this year. And so I was really excited to read this one. And did it fail to leave a mark? No, because I absolutely loved reading this one!

I love how the author has developed Amaya's character. Amaya appears to be a vengeful woman. She fails to move on from her past and has a habit of constantly thinking about different ways to bring harm upon others. She is evidently a troubled woman. She constantly stalks Kaavindi and is obsessed with Spencer. There are many causes for her behaviour and her character is not something readers might like, but there are people like her in this world too. Not every character needs to be likable.

The best part is the narration! Amaya's character grated on me for a long time and I was so annoyed at her, but by the end of the book, my mind was blown! I loved how everything changed in those last few pages.

The book is set in Sri Lanka and humourously mocks 'big fat' Sri Lankan weddings. The weddings here in South India are also similar so I couldn't help laughing at how accurate it was! Sri Lankan culture and tradition is also described beautifully in this one.

Bottom Line - need a new amazing thriller to read? Pick this one up!
