Naomi and Sam ended their relationship. A year later, Sam runs into Naomi. She is pushing a young baby in a stroller. Upon closer look, Sam realizes this baby looks exactly like him. Sam contacts Naomi the next day to find out the truth. Naomi is wary about letting Sam back into her life. But, over time, Sam and Naomi are back into their old ways. Naomi has completely changed for the better. I will leave it there, as it is best to go in blind to this book.

This was a crazy ride! Full of so many twists and turns. The story is told through Miranda's perspective, who is Sam's best friend and coworker. The book is interspersed with the perspectives from Miranda, Sam, Joyce (Sam's grandmother), and Naomi, as well as letters from Naomi.

I didn't care for all the pandemic talk, but it was easy enough to skim over. The plot line is super interesting and quite original. It's honestly also very realistic, which makes for an even more thrilling read. The Ex is clever, well-written, shocking, and heartbreaking.

The Ex tells the story of Sam and Naomi. They split up after years together just before the first lockdown in 2020. As Sam heals back living with his grandmother, Joyce, he bumps into Naomi a year or so later on the beach.
He'd done so well to get over her, but when he sees her with a baby - is it his? - his heart doesn't know what's going on.
Naomi appears to be a changed woman, and after Naomi accepting Sam is the Dad to the baby, they tentatively begin an arrangement for access. Naomi still loves Sam, and Sam still loves Naomi, but Joyce is hesitant. But what can she do?
As events lead Sam and Namoi's relationship to accelerate quickly, they are due to be married. Joyce is tragically murdered just before the wedding, yet it still goes ahead.
There are some good twists in the book, but some of the behaviours were a little predictable and drawn out for my liking.

Naomi and Sam's relationship had ended after a nasty split and Sam is now back living with his grandmother Joyce.

Sam accidentally bumps into Naomi in town and sees that she is pushing a baby in a pram. She initially says the baby is her friend's baby. The next day Sam calls asking if the baby is his and she tells him he is the father.

Sam meets up with Naomi and is shocked at how she has changed. She is more like the girl he fell in love with. But can Sam trust her?

A great intense psychological thriller. It had several jaw dropping moments and I wasn't sure how this would end.

A violent ex, an innocent baby. a mother trying to do her best. This book made my palms sweat in a good way. It stressed me out. As a Mum, I was rooting for Tom to be protected at all costs.
Terrifying in a good way!

Sam is the kind of character whose naivete might really burn my biscuits in a lesser author's work. Lynes, however, imbues him with enough humanity where I, instead, find him very sympathetic. And he's going to need support in a story like this.

The Ex is fast-paced, suspenseful, entertaining, and full of twists. I was immediately pulled into Sam and Naomi’s relationship. Who was responsible for their break up? Who's telling the truth? Can either of them be trusted? My allegiance changed throughout this twisted tale of deception and betrayal. I loved the use of letters as a way of expressing the thinking and motivation of one of the characters. S.E. Lynes’ masterful character development drives the story with tension and emotion. Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for my copy. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I have been obsessed with reading lately...

I mean, I always was but this time it's completely different.

I find myself waking up early, staying up late, canceling plans and dismissing my chores just to read. I can't help it. The approvals I have been granted lately have me with the "can't wait" feeling.

I have yet to read a book in the past two weeks that I did not connect with. Every single book I have had in my hands has been incredible.

The Ex...

Now, this book that literally blew my mind.

As I said I have been reading non stop but this book made me stop dead in my tracks. Whoa! Where did SE Lynes, come from and where have they been my whole life? This author is a mastermind when it comes to delivering a 5 star hit.

The Ex is juicy, deceitful and oh so twisted! I gobbled this book on up in one sitting !

After concluding The Ex, I feverishly stalked lynes’, backlog and purchased the entire collection. Yes, you could classify me as being obsessed.

Here is a little teaser :

The love of your life… or a deadly mistake?

It’s hard, meeting your ex after so much time apart. You remember the tears and accusations, the desperate look on his face as he punched the wall, but you try not to show it. You smile politely, even while your heart beats faster.

You watch as he looks down into the stroller, at the beautiful blond-haired blue-eyed baby kicking his little legs in the sunshine, whose innocent smile lights up your world.

You see his face change. You know what he’s thinking.

The next day he calls. His voice is shaking. He wants the truth. Is it his child?

You hesitate, your throat dry, good and bad memories swirling in your mind. You’ve missed him so much… but can you ever trust him again?

You decide that the most important thing is doing what’s right for baby Tom. But months later, when the sirens wail in the night, you have to admit: you never thought either of you would go this far…

A brilliantly twisty psychological thriller from no.1 bestselling author S.E. Lynes about a relationship full of secrets and lies. Fans of Ruth Ware, Lisa Jewell and Gillian Flynn will be gripped by The Ex.

The Ex was a tough one for me to rate because I thought the premise was really good and I liked how the story unfolded. The execution was just off for me. I found the prose distracting and the changing in perspectives was also not great. I did appreciate how I never really knew where the story was going and there's a good plot twist I didn't see coming. I suggest reading a sample and if you can get into the storytelling, give this one a go.

Another super twisty read from the author, as I've come to expect. Found it very difficult to put down and read it in one sitting. A good plot and great characters.

Wow, what an anxiety inducing rollercoaster of a thriller. If anybody has ever had a relationship with a narcissistic manipulator will feel all sorts of emotions with this one. I was literally holding my mouth and gasping a lot, even though I knew what was about to happen! I love all the books I have read by S.E Lynes and they are all brilliant!
