As an owner of five furbabies I've always wished I could draw them better and this book was very helpful. Easy instructions and ideas. Great for any age.

Such a clever way to break down how to draw cats! This manuals covers the basics (facial features of adults, proportions of kittens), common poses (curled up sleeping, sitting, striding, stretching, lying down), various breeds and coat patterns.

I thought drawing cats would be a daunting task - and it was, I’ve tried in the past - but the tips in this book are right on the money. They make everything so much easier, and they really helped me to focus on bigger shapes and lines, rather than getting lost in the many small details.

Lovely! The instructions are clear and very easy to follow. My child is very pleased with this book and made some serious progress!

This book and the rest of the books from this series are perfect for anyone who is interested in finding a new hobby but feels like drawing is a bit difficult. Loved the techniques and showing how to draw the animals in different positions that may be of interest is great

My daughter and I adored this art book, which is really beautiful, fun and interesting. We both love cats, and so, we really enjoyed learning how to draw them, and we had a good go at drawing some.

I highly recommend this book to beginners in art, or to anyone who wishes to update their art skills. It is amazing!

I admit, I usually stick to drawing cutesy cats, anime cats, just fun cats. I don't usually attempt to draw more "real" cats but have tried really hard the past few months to figure it out. All so I could create a special drawing for my daughter featuring our sweet Prissy who passed away last year. When I came across this book, I had high hopes it would be the book to finally help me figure out how to draw a cat.

And this book did not disappoint! Okay, my first attempt didn't quite look all that great but slowing down and really paying attention to the helpful instructions, I was soon able to draw several different cats. This book truly breaks the steps down, provides fantastic instructions so it's easy to understand and follow and of course the art included is beautiful. I love that the author included such detailed tutorials, making sure to not over look any little detail so the individuals using the book to learn fully understand. I think one of my favorite parts was learning all the different techniques. I feel this book would be great for kids and adults wanting to learn to draw all different types of cats!

This is a great book to learn how to draw different cats. Another one to add to my son's growing list of drawing books.

Please note that I simultaneously reviewed Let's Draw Dragons & Let's Draw Sea Creatures, and the preliminary tutorial pages are exactly the same, so my comments will be the same.

Let's Draw Cats is a well-rounded drawing instruction book that starts by introducing the reader to all of the necessary tools, the pros and cons of different types, and how to use them. It then moves on to a brief section on basic animal drawing techniques including shading, musculature, and fur and scale textures. Finally, this book moves on to 10 detailed step-by-step tutorials of different cats. These full tutorials are 4 pages long, or 2 full spreads.

The good:
- This book provides a brief but thorough introduction to tools and techniques that will serve as a sufficient starting point to artists with at least some experience in some form of drawing.
- The steps in each tutorial expertly illustrate the groups of shapes used to form the final drawings and how & why they work together.
- I love it that the tutorials are evenly split between generic shorthair cat/kitten in different common positions as well as specific breeds.

The not so good:
- This book commits the "add details" sin many "how to draw" books commit. Step 11 is a final cleaned-up outline. Step 12 is a fully rendered greyscale illustration. An intermediate finishing step would be nice!
- The starting tutorials before launching into the cats is insufficient for true beginners.
- The repeated basic tutorial still provides details for non-fur skins and scales. Cat noses and ears are particularly tricky shapes for new artists and could have used a mini tutorial instead of the skin and scale demos.

This is a very detailed step by step instruction book on how to draw cats in detail. For an artist that is just starting out that is also a cat lover, this would make a great gift. Thank you to NetGalley for my ARC!

Not only does this book go through drawing basics, but it gives step-by-step directions in 10-12 steps. It is intended for kids, but I think the types of drawing are kind of advanced. There are a variety of ypes of creatures within the book. It also gives a list of tools and materials needed to be successful.

I like these books, that show you how to draw. So my family being cat lovers, we had to have this one.

This books shows you what tools you need, some drawing basics and how to get from a simple circle to a detailed cat head! Different cat poses and breeds are shown and it’s fairly easy to follow the directions.

Let's Draw Cats is a collection of drawing tutorials by How2DrawAnimals. Due out 16th Aug 2022 from Quarto on their Walter Foster Jr. imprint, it's 48 pages and will be available in paperback format.

For all the readers who grew up with the spin racks of technique booklets from Foster at their local stationery/art store, the format in this new series of books will be comfortingly familiar. The books begin with very basic overviews over tools and supplies and pencil techniques for light and shadow, shading, texture, and form.

There are 10 tutorials included in the book for a varied selection of cats and kittens such as a head study, sleeping cat, ragdoll, siamese, and persian (and 5 more). Tutorials are easy to follow and show step by step refinements with new lines and shading included. The tutorials cover two pages each with 10 steps from simple shapes to finished, shaded drawing.

This would make a great gift for would-be artists of all ages. The included tutorials are varied and eclectic. There is a complete table of contents, so locating individual ones shouldn't be problematic. They're slanted toward line drawings, though colored pens, crayons, and watercolors could certainly be used to enhance the drawings.

Nice booklet, accessible for everyone.

Five stars. This would be a nice choice, bundled with some drawing supples, for a young artist. It would also do well for school or public library acquisition, home library, and even for adults/childminders/caregivers/teachers who want to up their "draw with me" game with their young charges.

It is one of the books in the "Let's Draw ..." series which touches also other animals such as dogs, wild animals, or dragons. The book starts with the basic information about "Tools & Materials", "Drawing Basics", and "Cat Head Detail". Then it offers nine step-by step drawings for cats (e.g., Siamese, Kitten, Bengal, ...) For real-life cats. There are also additional tips throughout the books that touch topics such as Shading, Stroke Direction, Coat Patterns, or Whiskers.
It is a short book for children and beginners who want to learn to draw cats and it only offers the drawings in black-grey-white (although more advanced students will have no problem to adapt the instructions for drawing with colors). I highly recommend this book for this group.

Very easy to follow instructions on how to draw various cats (though I'm still rubbish at it). Broken down well as all the best drawing books for kids are, though as with all of these things the end detail always feels more like it's a case of 'practice this 10,000 times to get it anywhere near correct' (which isn't a criticism of the book, just an observation).

I enjoyed following the step by step instructions on how to draw cats from this book and I must say they turned out quite well. The projects are appealing and anyone wanting to learn how to draw our furry pets will surely do well after some practice (or if you are a beginner, after LOTS of practice because let's face it - creatures are hard to draw well. That's why we need good guidebooks like this one.)

As always, I liked that each new step is shown in blue instead of black used in the previous step so it's easy to see where you are to draw next. The one thing I would like to see perhaps is a zoom-in for some of the more detailed and complicated steps, like the eyes. I was glad to be looking at a digital copy, as I could pinch for a closer look. The pictorial instructions stop at the essential outlines and further details like how to shade the fur and so on are not given except in text. Still, this volume would be a useful addition for any artist's library if they are looking to draw more realistic looking kitties.

4 and a half stars for me.

This book was exactly what I was looking for. It shows different poses and types of cats that are drawn starting with simple shapes. The result is a realistic drawing. It’s short, but that is what I expected so no big deal. If you love cats and want to learn how to draw them, then this book is worth checking out.

This is a very simple, rather short book for children on how to draw cats and a few kittens. Adults could easily use it too. There are a handful of breeds provided like ragdoll and calico, but most of their looks are similar. I was hoping for a long-haired housecat example to use for one of my cats but the only long haired cats shown are Persians and Maine coons, which have different faces. You can easily extrapolate from the general directions for long haired cats, but they did seem a little one note. Even the Siamese mostly just looked like a dark cat with a slightly Siamese face. There are a couple of kittens but they are fluffy, young kittens. I was also hoping for an older kitten -- we have a rescue who's about 6 months old and incredibly long and ferret-like, and I'd love to draw him but I'll have to figure out how to just stretch the examples.

The book is in black and white, with the old fashioned technique of draw this shape and a circle with lines this far down and then erase this part. I'm not really a fan of that kind of drawing but it gives you more precise results if you don't mind the erasing and not learning intuitively.

I chose to give this book 4 stars instead of 3 because it's priced under $10 for the paperback and for that price point this will be a great resource.
