This series is pure genius! (I got the one on cats as well.) I love how synthetic the explanations are, and they make drawing so much easier.

This books covers many species, including dolphins, sea lions, clown fish, sharks, humpbacks, orcas, stingrays, moorish idols, turtles and octopuses. It’s amazing how much I learned in just 26 pages!

This is a fun and interesting art book for children, which my daughter and I really enjoyed reading. We tried to draw some of the sea creatures from the book, and we had fun while doing so.

The book is fantastic and I highly recommend it to all budding artists.

Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book.

I received the book from netgalley for my honest review. This book has step by step to teach you how to draw sea creatures. It is great fun for those learning to draw. It also teaches some about shading. My oldest daughter loves these books. She has been able to draw animals well instead of cartoon animals. Highly recommended.

I really enjoyed this but I have to admit I found the seal particularly difficult to draw but then I'm a beginner with an interest in drawing and I certainly wont give up trying to draw him. I think this would make a brilliant gift for someone with an interest in drawing and the drawings could be used for cards, general pictures, any number of things.

A very useful reference book with step by step instructions for drawing several sea creatures. Lots of tips for simplifying the drawing of creatures by identifying shapes and developing these in to recognisable animals.
Good for lots of different ages and experience levels

Usually, I pick up books to review based on what I think my blog readers might like to read. However, this week I chose three books just because I wanted to read them. My beach-themed family room needs some decorations so I thought I would begin a new hobby while getting some inexpensive custom wall art. Let’s Draw Sea Creatures was my first art instruction selection.

The book is written for children, so it starts at a real beginner’s level. There are two short chapters on tools and techniques and then a chapter for each creature. The species included are a dolphin, sea lion, clownfish, great white shark, humpback whale, stingray, Moorish idol (that looks like an angelfish), sea turtle, octopus, and orca. For each of the ten creatures included, there are illustrations of how to use simple shapes to form them in proportion. The steps also have tips for realistic shading techniques. It is truly the opposite of intimidating and is a great way to build artistic confidence.

If you have a child that would like to draw, you can’t go wrong with this book. Let’s Draw Sea Creatures is also perfect for adults who need to start at the most basic level possible. The only tools necessary are paper, a pencil, an eraser and a creative desire. 4 stars!

Thanks to Walter Foster Jr and NetGalley for a digital review copy of the book.

My 9 year old niece has been obsessed with learning to draw and these books were perfect for her! I especially appreciated the tips and tricks offered to new and experienced artists. I loved the variety given to draw, and there's something for everyone, no matter what your drawing experience.

Absolutely love this "how to draw" book. It was perfect for my 9 year old, who's very interested in drawing, but wanted to go beyound just the simple shapes and lines, and more into shading and texture and all that stuff. Just by reading the simple instructions (with no instruction from me, the parent), the final results of the sea creatures came out fantastic! Would highly recommend this book to other kids interested in art and drawing.

I was granted complimentary access to Let's Draw Sea Creatures via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for the opportunity! My thoughts are my own and my review is honest.

Please note that I simultaneously reviewed Let's Draw Dragons, and the preliminary tutorial pages are exactly the same, so my comments will be the same.

Let's Draw Sea Creatures is a well-rounded drawing instruction book that starts by introducing the reader to all of the necessary tools, the pros and cons of different types, and how to use them. It then moves on to a brief section on basic animal drawing techniques including shading, musculature, and fur and scale textures. Finally, this book moves on to detailed step-by-step tutorials on 10 different sea creatures including dolphins, sealions, various tropical fish, and more! These full tutorials are 4 pages long, or 2 full spreads.

The good:
- This book provides a brief but thorough introduction to tools and techniques that will serve as a sufficient starting point to artists with at least some experience in some form of drawing.
- The steps in each tutorial expertly illustrate the groups of shapes used to form the final drawings and how & why they work together.
- The variety of sea creatures is fantastic! I definitely want to jump in and paint a bunch of whales now.

The not so good:
- This book commits the "add details" sin many "how to draw" books commit. Step 11 is a final cleaned-up outline. Step 12 is a fully rendered greyscale illustration. An intermediate finishing step would be nice!
- The starting tutorials before launching into the sea creatures is insufficient for true beginners.
- The repeated basic tutorial still provides details for fur! Perhaps more on scales (fish scales are different than reptile scales!) or light-through-water patterns might have been a better inclusion than fur in a water creatures drawing book.

Not only does this book go through drawing basics, but it gives step-by-step directions in 10-12 steps. It is intended for kids, but I think the types of drawing are kind of advanced. There are a variety of ypes of creatures within the book. It also gives a list of tools and materials needed to be successful.

Let's Draw Sea Creatures is a collection of drawing tutorials by How2DrawAnimals. Due out 16th Aug 2022 from Quarto on their Walter Foster Jr. imprint, it's 48 pages and will be available in paperback format.

For all the readers who grew up with the spin racks of technique booklets from Foster at their local stationery/art store, the format in this new series of books will be comfortingly familiar. The books begin with very basic overviews over tools and supplies and pencil techniques for light and shadow, shading, texture, and form.

There are 10 tutorials included in the book for a varied selection of sea animals such as dolphin, clownfish, great white shark, sea turtle, and octopus (and 5 more). Tutorials are easy to follow and show step by step refinements with new lines and shading included. The tutorials cover two pages each with 10 steps from simple shapes to finished, shaded drawing.

This would make a great gift for would-be artists of all ages. The included tutorials are varied and eclectic. There is a complete table of contents, so locating individual ones shouldn't be problematic. They're slanted toward line drawings, though colored pens, crayons, and watercolors could certainly be used to enhance the drawings.

Nice booklet, accessible for everyone.

Five stars. This would be a nice choice, bundled with some drawing supples, for a young artist. It would also do well for school or public library acquisition, home library, and even for adults/childminders/caregivers/teachers who want to up their "draw with me" game with their young charges.
Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

Interested in Drawing Sea Creatures?
How2DrawAnimals presents "Let's Draw Sea Creatures. Learn to draw a variety of sea creatures step by step!", published by Quarto Publishing Group – Walter Foster. It is one of the books in the "Let's Draw ..." series which touches also other animals such as dogs, wild animals, or dragons. The book starts with the basic information about "Tools & Materials" and "Drawing Basics". Then it offers ten step-by step drawings for various sea creatures (e.g., Dolphin, Great White Shark, Moorish Idol Fish, Octopus, ...). There are also tips throughout the book that touch topics such as "Cast Shadows", "Guidelines", or "Shading for Dimension" which are helpful for beginners and advanced artists.
This is a short book for children and beginners who want to learn to draw sea creatures. I highly recommend this book for this group. It only offers the drawings in black-grey-white (although more advanced students will have no problem to adapt the instructions for drawing with colors).
The complimentary copy of this book was provided by the publisher through NetGalley free of charge. I was under no obligation to offer a positive review. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I had the privilege of receiving an ARC for this drawing book! Let's draw sea creatures has proven to be fun, clear and easy to follow.

So far I've drawn a dolphin and a clown fish and they tookabout 15 minutes each excluding shading them in and were very like the guidelines.

I liked the tips and tricks in the beginning and the simple step-by-step elements of each sea creature. Looking forward to working on the sea turtle, stingray and octopus next & am thinking I may use the outlines from this book filled with Zentangle doodles in the future.
