I have to be direct from the start and say that I wasn’t overly impressed by No One Saw It Coming. There are a number of reasons for this. For one, the blurb indicates, at least for me, a dark and snappy thriller. In reality, I found the book to be too dragged out. You really need to get at least half of the way through for the real excitement to kick in. There are some interesting tidbits in the lead up to the main event and I could certainly see how the author was building up the story, but I felt they weren’t strong enough or became too quickly redundant later on. To be honest, I felt like there were many elements of this story that could have been made stronger with more detail and exploration time.

I also didn’t like any of the characters. While it’s always good to explore new walks of life through fiction, I found the white, rich grouping from this book unrelatable and cringy. I like how the main characters were used to explore different relationship types and mental health issues, but I felt there was a wall between us that I just couldn’t penetrate.

It sounds like I really didn’t like No One Saw It Coming but that wasn’t necessarily the case. I finished the book without struggle and the overall story did keep me intrigued. However, I just couldn’t click with it and enjoy it as much as some of Susan Lewis’ other books.

Hanna and Jack have been married a long time, although their relationship is not monogamous. They have a son Leo and daughter Cait who has a young child. Cait is a troubled teenager who doesn't have a good relationship with her parents.
Seb is a long-time friend whose wife has sadly passed away. He meets Riona through a dating website.
The first part of this book introduces us to the characters, some likeable, others not so nice.
I found this unputdownable. It is a very compelling read as you want to know what happened and how it all ties up.
It's a pacy read, and I loved the , although I did guess before the reveal.
I was disappointed that Astor never got his comeuppance.

Despite having quite a few Susan Lewis titles in my TBR it's been a number of years since I read one of her books and have to confess I'm still a bit conflicted as to how I felt after reading it despite actually finishing reading it a while ago. It's definitely a book of two halves for me, the first half seemed to drag as it took a little too long for me to connect to the characters and get to grips with the storyline but then suddenly it all fell into place and I flew through the rest of the book in a single sitting.

To the outside world Jack and Hanna have a picture perfect world, successful both in business and in marriage, but everything is not what it seems. Scratch beneath the surface and it looks like secrets are about to be uncovered that threatens their every being. It's hard to say much more without giving spoilers but there was one aspect of the plot that I personally could have done without as it just didn't sit comfortably with me.

Alongside the main storyline is narration of multiple characters which at first didn't seem to have any connection as to what was going on but it's only over time that the pieces slot into place and it all becomes a little clearer and the part they play.

One of the pleasant surprises of No One Saw it Coming was the welcome return of Andee Laurence, as family friend of the Madden family, who comes to support Hanna in her time of need. It's with Andee's help that they finally get the answers needed and uncover who was behind everything that had unfolded and tore their lives apart.

No One Saw It Coming is a complex family drama with some serious themes at its core. Overall I'm glad I read it but it's not my favourite Susan Lewis book.

I have always enjoyed Susan Lewis novels. There are some patterns that repeat in so far as she often has successful, respectable professional families as core characters ripe for a downfall. Having said this, the strand of a key character with severe mental health issues impacting in a totally unexpected way was unusual. It made me want to get to the bottom of the plot, even when the opening scenario was not altogether engaging. A good read with good character profiles and twists and turns.

Susan Lewis is a gem and an author I absolutely adore. I squealed when this gem landed on my doorstep. GgA huge thank you to the lovelies at Harper Fiction for my copy of this one.

Lewis has captivated me from the very first page with this one. This is a book I have been unwilling to put down. This is completely unpredictable and filled with many twists and turns. None of these, I was able to predict.

I love the characters that fill the pages of this one, each add an element and give points to discuss. Cait is one who has seemed particularly troubled. I also find the agreement of flings in a marriage an interesting point.

Lewis has had me gripped by this one. As soon as I saw this announced I was intrigued. I am a huge fan of Susan’s books so this instantly was added to the TBR.

No One Saw It Coming so the latest Susan Lewis and is yet another wonderful read. The novel tells the story of Jack and Hanna Madden who live in a beautiful part of Bristol with their two grown up children. Their lavish home is that of Jack’s ancestors and it even has a lake. Jack and Hanna have an open marriage and allow each other the odd affair, strictly a physical interaction which they share with each other. Suddenly out the blue everything on their well ordered lives starts to fall apart.

Another fabulous griping thriller that has you hooked from page one. I love the way that each book is linked and there’s always someone from Kesterley who appears, in this novel it’s Andee, the ex-detective who is there to sort everything out as murder ensues. I love the convoluted, ways the characters link with each other and this novel had me guessing right too the end. From the moment you start reading a Susan Lewis book you feel as if you are sitting right in the room observing all that is happening, the description, the characters are all beautifully crafted. Suffice to say that I cannot wait for the next book, each one just gets better and better.

Susan Lewis was always one of my 'go to' authors, but I felt the last few books that I'd read of her were just 'ok'. However, this book was back to the books of hers that I loved. Lots of unexpected twists and turns and a great story. It also gives a great insight into rare mental health illnesses and how they can affect people. Highly recommend this book.

I like this author's work and this was a good read. Very unusual story line, one that I certainly never saw coming!
I had vaguely heard of this condition, but the manifestation of it was really weird.
Definitely worth a read.

Another great page turner from Susan Lewis, bringing back the welcome presence of Andee , as we witness the relationship between Jack and Andee.

Although I did see the twist coming, quite early on in the novel, it was still enjoyable and a good easy read.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the arc in exchange for my honest review.

In my late teens and early 20’s I loved Susan Lewis. I count 2 of her books - Dance While You Can and Darkest Longing in my favourite all time books.

I was really looking forward to reading this book as it has been a while since I’ve read any of her books. Unfortunately this book was not for me.

It took me a long time to read as I found the first half of the book very slow. It was only in the last 15% of the book that my interest was peaked and I was engaged with what was happening to the characters and that I felt the pace picked up.

The plot line I guessed relatively quickly and I think this was part of the frustration with the slow pace. I didn’t really connect with any of the characters or feel that I liked any of them enough to care. The most likeable was Seb who seemed to be a nice person that had a bad thing happen to him.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.

I enjoyed this one but didn't love it as much as her precious books. The storyline was good but it felt slow in places

This is a heartfelt novel of family dynamics, which is full of tensions as Riona is invited into the group with devastating consequences.
Riona was separated from her sister from a young age. She becomes attached to Hannah, who is struggling after an assault and has strange things happening to her. The story is told from the points of view of Blancha, Hannah, and Riona. There are allusions to past crimes.
Although not my usual read, I found it very intriguing and an interesting concept.

Thank you Netgalley for the advance copy.
Having read a few from Susan Lewis, I was disappointed in this book. Too many characters to keep up with at the beginning, and the main character Hanna was very irritating and a bit wet.
I found the whole story a bit predictable but I did read to the end, and contrary to the title…I did see it coming!
Having said all this I would try another title by this author.

Susan Lewis never fails to deliver. An wonderful story with engaging characters and a fantastic hook. There is a real depth to her stories and always something to make you stop and consider what other people have to cope with in life. Fascinating.

This was a well-written, suspenseful family drama with fully-fleshed out characters and quick chapters that kept the story humming along.

Susan Lewis has long been on the list of my auto-buy authors, with her emotional stories that suck the reader in. This book is no different - it really does give all the feels. There is both drama and an element of mystery due to the crime that was committed. Highly recommended!

Thank you for NetGalley for providing me with this book for review. A very interesting storyline, the end was not at all what I was expecting. You will definitely be left thinking about the characters way after you have finished the book.

I have read numerous Susan Lewis books and have become a fan over the years, I enjoyed this but not as much as some others. I would still receommend this book and it is worth a read and was delighted to be sent this e-arc by netgalley.

This is a very complex and powerful domestic thriller with many themes running through the book. As always this is an enormously engaging, spine chilling and tense read from Susan Lewis, one that I would highly recommend.

The story revolves around the central character Hanna, her husband Jack and their two adult children who all have very complex relationships. Jack and Hanna have a strong bond although they share an open relationship, which they believe their children are unaware of. Their dear friend Seb has been widowed and as they story begins they all enjoy meeting a very suitable date for him, who as a therapist may be of help to Hanna and her family.

Dire consequences of the arrangement lead to very serious outcomes and the arrival of a voice in the narrative which is unnamed is unnerving.

The plot is complex and covers mental health, depression, family issues, assault, adultery and lies. It also sees love, friendship and compassion, sometimes from unexpected sources.

Highly recommended.

Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
