I love Susan Lewis' books. I have done ever since I read "A French Affair" and although I'm still getting through her back catalogue I've never read a book I've disliked by her yet.

When I saw her latest release "No One Saw It Coming" was available on #netgalley I knew I had to request it and I was lucky enough to be accepted!

What a thrilling, clever and fast paced read this was. I absolutely loved this book. It keeps you guessing and I love the Susan writes. She really paints the scene so that it's so vivid in my imagination that I feel I've followed this story so closely and got to know the characters well.

The book is divided into two parts and we follow the story of Jack and Hanna and their family. The family dynamics is told so well as the drama unfolds in these short and snappy chapters which just makes you want to keep reading. I can't say much more as I fear I'd give spoilers but for my first read of January 2023, I can only hope all my other reads for this year will be to this high standard as I loved it!

It's out tomorrow and I highly recommend! Thank you once again @netgalley @harpercollinsuk for an early advanced copy.

Overall Good Read 🤓

Told over two parts and a few different perspectives, No One Saw It Coming follows the life of
Hanna where a turn in events gradually unravels family secret’s which does not end well….

Slow burner, overall good read.

I have read and enjoyed many of Susan Lewis’s novels and this one certainly did not disappoint. It took a little time to get into it but I was then hooked. Interesting theme, well written, thoroughly enjoyed.

I usually enjoy novels by Susan Lewis, and was pleased to receive the arc for this title. However, I have struggled through 25% of this one, and I am increasingly reluctant to pick it up again. I do not like any of the main characters. They do not behave in any way like ‘normal’ people would, and by that I mean people who follow a normal moral code of behaviour.
It seems to be that Jack and Hanna’s great wealth and philanthropy excuse them from the usual moral codes of acceptable behaviour.
At 25%, I still do not know what the main thrust of this story will be about, as it is meandering very slowly through various strands of Jack and Hanna’s social lives, and their interactions with friends and work colleagues. This style of writing is boring and unconvincing, and I find I do not care enough about these characters to continue reading this novel. A DNF for me, I’m sorry to say, having begun reading with high hopes of a really good read.
My thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for my advance copy of this book.

I just didn’t enjoy this one at all. It was slow and had too many characters. I struggled to get through to the end. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

I usually love Susan Lewis and was excited to be granted this book by Net Galley but unfortunately it just did not hold my attention - too many characters for my liking and sadly I did not complete it despite reading 20% of the content

I had previously only read a few of Susan Lewis’ releases, so I had little expectation upon picking up this read. I managed to read this within two sittings thanks to the excellent writing by Lewis, and I was eagerly invested in the storyline incredibly early on.

The alternate, short, sharp chapters made for an exciting and intriguing read. The tension and dramas are well executed, and the family dynamics are complex but not draining. The storyline flows perfectly, and the pace picks up towards the thrilling conclusion.

A family drama with mystery weaved throughout; this is an incredibly engaging read. This a perfect introduction to this author or anyone looking for a thought-provoking read.

Thank you, NetGalley and Harper Collins UK, for a pre-release copy of this book.

I couldn't connect with any of the characters and I didn't find them very likeable. I find it difficult to enjoy with books like this. If you love to hate characters then you will love this. I enjoyed the writing style and I will definitely look out for more from this author but this didn't hit the mark for me this time

EXCERPT: I am staring at the TV where I've frozen the screen on a shot of Hanna and Jack in happier times. They are a very glamorous couple and look so happy, sophisticated, on top of the world. Hanna's laughing. She has such a beautiful, infectious smile; her eyes shine with humour and kindness; her skin is lightly freckled and smooth.

I look at Jack and my heart swells with Hanna's grief. He might not be a classically handsome man, but there is a magnetism to him. I feel a confidence that is arresting. I can imagine wanting to be a part of his world.

I wonder if Hanna knows his big secret yet, the one that Cait told Riona. Yes, Riona does confide in me from time to time, and she was so upset about this that it all came tumbling out.

How could he have betrayed his beautiful wife like that?

He was, at heart, a despicable man and yet I have little difficulty imagining how terrible his loss must be for Hanna. I wish I could comfort her, but there is nothing I can do.

Maybe it won't be so bad once she learns the truth.

ABOUT 'NO ONE SAW IT COMING': Secrets lie at the heart of every family…

When the unthinkable happens…

Hanna’s world is crumbling.

An unimaginable crime has been committed, and everyone’s looking for someone to blame. Her loved ones are under suspicion.

Now Hanna must work out who is threatening her family – before it’s too late.

No one could have seen this coming…

MY THOUGHTS: I am conflicted by my feelings about No One Saw It Coming. There's a thread in the first half that I really didn't enjoy and I believe that a different vehicle could have been used to facilitate the storyline. But it does serve as a cautionary tale . . .

I really didn't get involved in the storyline until the second half, and then I really did become involved. It took me three days to read the first half, but I read the second half in one sitting.

Despite the shaky start, I grew to love Hanna's character. Ditto Kate and Leo. Jack I liked from the start - with reservations - and I never had any doubts about Seb, Andee or Graeme. There is one character who is absolutely despicable.

The family is wealthy, but philanthropic. They are also complicated. A few of the complications I could have done without.

The majority of the story revolves around Hanna, with occasional interspersions from an unknown character who seems to know an awful lot about Hanna and her family.

The plot focuses on family relationships, which we know Susan Lewis is a master of. It also includes the issues of infidelity, teenage pregnancy, mental health, assault and murder.

Not my favourite Susan Lewis book by far. I think it missed the mark a little bit for me. However as this author is extremely popular I know that it will still do amazingly well

Short chapters delivering family drama with a few twists and turns along the way. Brilliant read from Susan Lewis yet again.

Another cracker by Susan Lewis. A mix of family drama with an unexpected twist that led it into whodunnit territory.
I enjoyed the inclusion of Andee Lawrence as I think she's a great character that Lewis has created. I couldn't warm to any of the main characters this time but they definitely made for an atmospheric and gripping storyline.
Short chapters made this a really quick read for me and it was another enjoyable read from one of my favourite authors

This is another page turner fro Susan Lewis.
Sharp short chapters which keep the reader hooked.
There were a couple of familiar characters and some new. I loved Jack and Hannah and their friend Seb who was always there on the sidelines.
There are some twists and turns in the story which include assault and as Jack and Hanna’s lives are often in the spotlight, they try to keep this under wraps as it could shatter everything they have worked for.
Many thanks to Net Galley and Harper Collins UK for an ARC of this book in exchange for a review.
Susan Lewis is one of my favourite authors and this book does not disappoint I was hooked from start to finish.

My first Susan Lewis novel and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Initially I thought it was going to be a routine “ rich family in crisis” story and for the first 2/3rds or so it was, but then a very unexpected twist changed the focus in a very favourable way.

An appealing cast of major and minor characters with a satisfactory conclusion made this novel most interesting and readable.

My thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this ARC.

Not the best Susan Lewis I’ve read unfortunately but I can see it still being popular. Too many characters and restaurant names etc thrown at you. I counted sev3n different characters in about three paragraphs at one point plus a fancy named restaurant. All a bit too much. Saw the ending coming which to be fair isn’t always a bad point but just too early in this one.

A fascinating read penned by this established author. She ably embeds a very difficult mental health issue in the lives of a family and the effects it has on them and those close to them. You are drawn straight into the characters , whether you like or hate them, and kept hooked until the surprising finale

Susan Lewis can always be relied upon to produce novels that illuminate complex family relationships in a sympathetic, thought-provoking way, and she is in fine form with ‘No One Saw it Coming’, her latest novel. At the heart of the plot are Hanna and Jack Madden, owners of a successful property development business that has made them rich and allowed them to be regarded as pillars of their local West Country community and major philanthropists for good causes. Their children, Leo and Cait, have been less fortunate in life, however, and the premature cancer death of their friend Seb’s wife has touched the Maddens too. All of their lives become more complicated still when Blanche, a vulnerable woman who has been moved to local sheltered accommodation, becomes convinced that Hanna is her long-lost sister, while Blanche’s therapist Riona appears to be falling in love with Seb. Alternately told from Hanna’s and Blanche’s points of view, there is a lot going on in this novel, on multiple levels, but it is worth persevering to the end. I would very much like to thank NetGalley and the publishers for the free ARC that I was sent for the purpose of producing this honest review.
