It's been a while since I've read a book by Susan Lewis and now I'm asking myself why. I'd totally forgotten how good her writing is, her characters are mostly likeable and relatable, although a slight deviation in this story as Hanna and Jack have an enviable lifestyle, and she draws you into the story so that everything else fades into the distance.
Hanna and Jack lead a great life, successful business and 2 adult children and special friends, but one incident soon escalates and threatens all they hold dear. A great read

I absolutely LOVE Susan Lewis books. I find that they always have some compelling characters which are so perfectly crafted that you can't help but really feel like you know them... this book certainly didn't disappoint! Loved it and recommend it to all!

Fabulous book. I've read a lot of Susan Lewis books and this didn't disappoint. I thought I had guessed what was going on but a few twists along the way kept me hooked.

A good family drama. Well written with believable characters.
Not so much a thriller though if that is what you are expecting.
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for my copy.
A decent 4 star read for me.

Simply stunning! Susan Lewis never fails to deliver and this story is packed with every ingredient required to enthralling! Brilliant plot and subplots, engaging characters and the added bonus of encountering old friends like Andee. I didn't expect the ending thanks to so many clever red herrings. This is one if those books that steals your sleep as I guarantee you won't be able to out it down. Brilliant

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.

Although Hanna and Jack have been married a long time, they have two children, Leo and Cait, who had a child. Her relationship with her parents isn’t good.

Seb has been a family friend for a long time, and has lost his wife. Through a dating site he meets Riona.

In beginning of the book we meet the characters, some you liked, others you didn’t.

The book was hard to put down, wanting to know what happens next, abc how the story will end. There’s twists and turns and the ending I didn’t see coming.

I felt Mental health was highlighted very well in this book.

I recommend this book.

I really enjoy Susan Lewis books and this was no exception. It’s a book with some complex issues but all wrapped up in a wonderfully told story. Characters that are believable and plot lines that I wanted to turn the page to find out what happens next. Would make a great gift for any readers in your life.

Without giving too much away, this book involves complex family relationships. Although the story was interesting and there were numerous twists and turns, it didn’t keep me on the edge of my seat and I didn’t overly warm to the family who were too well off and a bit sickly sweet for my liking.

I received a free copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Hanna and Jack have been married a long time, although their relationship is not monogamous. They have a son Leo and daughter Cait who has a young child. Cait is a troubled teenager who doesn't have a good relationship with her parents.
Seb is a long-time friend whose wife has sadly passed away. He meets Riona through a dating website.
The first part of this book introduces us to the characters, some likeable, others not so nice.
I found this unputdownable. It is a very compelling read as you want to know what happened and how it all ties up.
It's a pacy read, and I loved the , although I did guess before the reveal.
I was disappointed that Astor never got his comeuppance.
Mental health is a very complex issue, and I thought the writing highlited this well.
Thanks to Netgalley and Harper Collins UK for the ARC in return for an honest review

As usual in my reviews, I will not rehash the publisher's synopsis, but instead recommend that you read this for yourself!

I've read many books by Susan Lewis and always enjoyed them - this was no exception. The characters are well written and the interplay feels genuine on the whole (wasn't sure about the Hugo subplot as he was so vile!)

I like the fact that some of the characters - notably Andee (and Jay) - recur from previous novels - it makes the network of connections feel authentic. I also like the way the book is written from the viewpoint of more than one character.

A well thought out and intruiging plot with several twists - I did however guess the main plot twist, but will give nothing away by saying anything further!

Looking forward to reading more by this talented writer.

My thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for an ARC. All opinions my own.

Really tight writing from Susan Lewis makes this book a very easy read. I was drawn in by the characters, even though Jack and Hanna lead a somewhat different and more privileged life than most people. The character of Seb is a nice one and it was easy to wish him well with Riona.
An unspeakable and totally unexpected crime affects all the family and throws them into disarray.
I would have liked to have had all the loose ends tied up and to know what happened to Blanche's sister but that would have made a much longer and more involved story. As it was this one was gripping and very readable.
With thanks to Netgalley and Harper Collins for an arc copy in return for an honest review.

A surprisingly different read from Susan lewis, that draws you in from the start and keeps you enthralled with twists and turns and a very unexpected ending that I totally didn’t expect!
Nice to have the familiarity of Andee and Graeme, loved the new characters of Jack and Hanna and their children and the wonderful Seb such a fantastic supportive friend to the whole family.
Riona /Blanche/Billy was a revelation and took me a little while to get used to! Not something I had heard of before but found it very intriguing!
No one saw it coming illustrates so well that their are secrets in every family but some have a far greater magnitude than others with far reaching consequences.
Thank you netgalley fir this early read.

Wow! Wow! Wow! What a fantastic book!
Fast paced and completely different to anything I’ve read before. I certainly had no idea how it was going to end.
I was hooked from start to finish.

More a family drama with a huge surprise hidden inside than a mystery, Lewis hooks readers in with her story of Hanna and Jack and their daughter, Caitlin. When an unthinkable crime is committed, those closest to Hanna are under suspicion and she’s left reeling. With someone threatening to spill her secrets and expose her family, Hanna has to work fast to find out who the culprit is to protect her loved ones…and herself.

Well, I didn't see that coming! It's almost a paraphrase of the title and that's because it's a very cleverly crafted plot, something I've not read the like of before. Susan Lewis is, according to the Sunday Times; a best selling author. It was this that kept me reading when frankly I was flagging through the first third of the novel. That third is devoted to scene setting and character introduction. Hanna and Jack have a fairly open relationship and that is explored too. Something occurs at the end of the first third that puts a rocket up the story line and it becomes a rip roaring read. I was hoping that Andee, the ex detective, would find Blanche's sister. That discovery could have opened the novel to explore the possibility that Blanche would find some conclusion to her condition.
Everything considered, it has to be a five star review from me and please forgive the lack of synopsis, it's because I have tried hard not to give anything away. That would really be a spoiler.
The following is only for the author, publisher and NetGalley members:
I question the gender conclusion the police put on the assailant but recognise that was a device used by the author in setting out the plot.

As an emotional drama this is a fantastic read however as a mystery it’s much more of a slow burner. There’s some very interesting dynamics between the characters including Hanna and Jack who have plenty of secrets, their troubled teenage daughter Caitlin, their family friend Seb and his new girlfriend Riona, there’s also the mysterious character of Blanche who it’s hard to know quite where she fits. In honesty it took me a while to get into this, for some reason I didn’t gel with the characters and I felt it was hard to see how it all fit together and it does take a long time to start truly making sense however the plot is exceptionally well written in retrospect. There’s a lot of tragedy in amongst all the glamour in this and it left me with a mix of feelings and it’ll probably stun quite a few people.

Susan Lewis has done it again! What a rollercoaster of emotions this book was. It had me guessing the whole way til the end.
This is a fantastic emotional thriller featuring few known characters.
Hannah Madden had it all until she didn’t, her friend and ally Andee Laurence steps in two unravel the events switch a shocking twist to the tale.
Extremely well written and very insightful to mental health issues.
Highly recommended read
