I have devoured this book in one sitting. Once I was pulled in, I couldn’t put it down. I was desperate to find out what was going on. Also, I didn’t want this books to end.

Everything about this book has been brilliant. I absolutely loved getting between the covers of this. This was everything I hoped for and so much more. This is a book which should be on everyone’s radar.

I absolutely recommend this book to other readers.

This is a twisty captivating thriller. The story is told over two storylines. The main characters aren’t likeable. It was suspenseful in places.

The Innocent One

Thanks to Netgalley, Lisa & the publisher for the ARC.

I enjoyed this book even though it was a little slow paced for me. It was a good read and a well anticipated sequel to the guilty one! I read the guilty one years ago and it was Fab, This ties it up nicely. I think that you could read this as a stand alone as the author does recap well but you will probably enjoy it more if you read the guilty one first.

Love the cover.

This story had me hooked from the first chapter. I really liked that the main character was male for a change and was such a likeable person, despite his issues. Daniel is a professional criminal defence solicitor yet also has so many vulnerabilities, left over from a childhood mainly raised in care. I liked how the author switched back and forth between Daniel’s personal life and his professional one too, given depth to the story and his character. . This is a great read that will keep you turning the pages.

The first chapter of this book really starts the book off with a bang and really makes you want to read on but something about this book did not keep me hooked the whole way through and I found myself skimming this book and just wanting to get to the ending.
This book was really well written but the characters and the overall storyline were quite boring. I could not connect to any of the characters and found them all to be very one dimensional. The plot was also really predictable and I knew how this was going to end at the beginning of the book.
I did not realise that this book was a sequel and maybe that is why I could not connect with these characters or this storyline - maybe there was something that I missed by not reading the first book which could have led me to really enjoying this one .

When Daniel is called to represent Sebastian, just as he did years ago, we all ask the question - did he do it? And then we ask, did he do it before?

Unfortunately, the answer comes through telling, not showing, and while the story is written well, the characters fall flat, and by the time I reached the end, which I felt was extremely rushed, I didn't really care about what was going to happen to anyone. Which is a shame, because the potential here is immense.

I didn't realise this was a sequel, but I got stuck on how little the characters resonated with me and that really affected my reading experience. I'm sure that many will enjoy this though.

Many thanks to the author, Little Brown Book Group UK and Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Although this is a sequel, it can be read as a standalone story, which is just as well as it is a good while since I read the previous book. A gripping story with plenty of twists, and one that I would definitely recommend.
Thank you to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this ARC

☁️ THOUGHTS:
When I started this, I didn’t realise it was a sequel to THE GUILTY ONE and I’m now intrigued as to if I’ve missed anything, having not read the first book. Either way, the plot flowed and read well as a stand-alone.

I’d say this was more domestic drama than thriller, as I found there to be more of a focus on the MC’s personal life than the mystery. The premise of the plot really appealed to me, but the lack of big twists or gasp out loud moments left me feeling disappointed and although I love a book with lots going on, THE INNOCENT ONE had so many little subplots that didn’t add anything to the book.

Despite this, I read this book super quickly in just over a couple of days, so although it wasn’t the best book I’ve ever read, it was a fast and easy read.

This book is a sequel, however it can just about work as a stand-alone book. I hadn’t read the first book however I did enjoy this and would read another book by this author.

A wonderful sequel but can just about be read as a stand-alone. Incredible tension, twists and turns as the plot develops.

This was a fantastic read and is one of the best piloted and written thrillers I have read for quite a while.

Highly recommended.

This is a captivating, twisty thriller. Brilliant writing, and I couldn't put it down! Gripping storyline with chilling characters.
Daniel, who is going through a marriage separation, is called by former client Sebastian. He agrees to represent him in a current murder, as he had defended him when accused as a child murderer. He has no idea how the decision will plunge him into danger.
There are breathtaking twists as the case infiltrates Daniel's life. This amazing read is perfect for thriller fans. Superbly written with characters who truly come to life!

Ten years have passed, but everyone remembers the Angel Killer. Sebastian Croll was just eleven years old when accused of murdering his playmate.
Criminal solicitor Daniel Hunter helped prove Sebastian's innocence in a trial that gripped the nation, and now the past is being unearthed when he gets a call from his old client.
Or guilty?
Sebastian's university professor has been brutally murdered and everyone who knew her is in the frame. As Daniel steps in to represent Sebastian for a second time, news about the boy's past spreads like wildfire, instantly branding Sebastian as guilty.
With tensions around the country rising, can Daniel prove once again that Sebastian is the innocent one? Especially when he realises it's not just Sebastian in danger, but himself . . .

This is a thrilling read.
Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start.
Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable.
Great suspense and found myself second guessing every thought I had continuously.
Can't wait to read what the author brings out next.
Recommend reading.

I was provided an ARC from NetGalley and the publisher. This is my own honest voluntary review.

I quite enjoyed this book. This was my last reading book of 2022. Although this was linked to a previous book and I had not read that particular one, the story had lots of twists and turns and the plot was thrilling. This can be read as a stand alone book. Thank you to Netgalley and the Little Brown Book Group for the advanced copy, for an honest review.

Fast paced and lots of twists.
Daniel Hunter is a criminal Lawyer who is contracted by Sebastian Croll an old client who was accused of murdering his playmate when he was 11yr old and was found innocent, now he`s at UNI and his professor has been found murdered and he`s a suspect.
Great twists to keep you reading till the end.

I never repeat the blurb. This was a tad protracted perhaps but a thoroughly enjoyable and credible read. Perhaps the secondary story running alongside could have had a little more prominence. It was almost an afterthought to give the protagonist another aspect to his job but it's a real isue which needs more coverage generally.
