I really enjoyed this book especially as it was based in Dublin. I found it easy and enjoyed the pace.

I enjoy a fake-dating trope and this book excelled at writing this trope; my favourite reason I love this trope is because its compelling and I really couldn't put this down because I just had to know how it ended.

This is a competent and well written police procedural set in Dublin.

I really liked Sergeant Nola Kane, the plucky and sharply funny young police officer stretching her wings and proving her worth under the supervision of the experienced older DI.

While She Sleeps is not exactly astonishingly original -- it includes many of the standard police procedural tropes -- but it's not a copy/paste formulaic delivery either. The characters - especially Nola - are well rounded and engaging. Dialogue is sharp and the pacing is good.

And like most police procedurals, the actual plot is not really what matters - we're in it for the investigators, the investigation process, the plot twists and final reveal. All skillfully handled here. I'll certainly be looking out for more in the series.

A brilliant detective book with a great plot and well thought out characters. I really enjoyed this and highly recommend reading. I felt my heart racing while reading as it's full of suspense.

I found this book heavy going. The main storyline could have been good but to be honest I think there were too many suspects. I also thought most of the characters were a bit two dimensional and were completely irrelevant. The cold case could have been really good but the outcome was overwhelming. This wasn't a bad book but I don't see me seeking out this author in the future.

This was an enjoyable read. It gave me something to look forward to and the end of the day. The author keeps you guessing until the end as to whose nefarious plot this was, giving several characters motives over the course of the book. I read this book quickly, mainly because I couldn't put it down.

I found this book to be incredibly confusing and I just could not follow what was happening and who was who. I felt the timeline was jumping around but there was no clear definition when there was a change which only added to confusion. Having said that, I did enjoy the ending and I thought it was very satisfactory.

Jody Kavanagh is a designer, loved by many and now it would seem hated by someone. Found on the brink of death, DI Ryan and Kane try to find out who would have done this to her.

This is a good bit of detective procedural and entertaining.

Jody Kavanagh seemed to have it all. Beautiful, rich, loved- so why was see found beaten & close to death on her kitchen floor? Why did she have a 'protection' dog & why was he outside? Why are there so many cameras? And is her ex- husband all he seems? Elliot Ryan & Nola Kane have to try & answer these questions.

Ryan is struggling through the pain resulting from a recent accident. He is also trying to solve a cold case. He is old school. He likes the old fashioned ways of doing things, he doesn't like slang or bad language. Nola is young impetuous & has served a suspension for attacking a fellow officer (her ex!)Her language leaves something to be desired & is pretty horrified at being paired with 'The Fossil'! However as the case goes on the unlikely partnership learns to respect & even like each other. This was an interesting police procedural with a good plot but the relationship between Ryan & Kane made it a great read. Thanks to Netgalley & the publisher for letting me read & review this book.

This had me hooked from the start! It was a really enjoyable read that kept me guessing. The characters were all well rounded and and brought to life and the book got me hooked from the start. Quite a quick and easy read for those like me who just shut our the world and dive into a book once it gets under their skin. It also keeps up a good pace throughout and isn't like every other thriller out there

An gripping police procedural involving the investigation of a woman who was attacked and seriously injured in her home. There are many suspects and twists and turns in the investigation. The two police officers are an interesting, odd-ball duo each with issues of their own. DI Elliot Ryan is recovering from an accident while DS Nola Kane has recently been demoted. Ryan is stiff and "Mr. By-the-Book" while Kane is more of an irreverent, fly-by-the-seat-of-her-pants type. They end up working together effectively. In addition to the main investigation there is an interesting sub-plot involving the investigation of police corruption. Enjoyed this read by an author I haven't read before.

I love books that hook you from the go. And While She Sleeps by Arlene Hunt is it. I was gripping from the first line because that's how well written it is.

The plot and sub plots make this an interesting read. Hunt builds the characters well and all the protagonists are fleshed out that makes this an interesting read. Definitely recommend for the writing style and storyline!

Awesome 5 🌟
When Jody Kavanagh is discovered close to death in her home, it's hard to believe someone wanted to hurt her. Young, talented, loved - she appears to have it all.
As she lies in a coma, Detective Inspector Elliot Ryan and Sergeant Nola Kane begin to piece together a picture of her life - but the image revealed is far from perfect. Is her ex-husband really who he seems to be? Why are her mother and sister estranged? Why is her house full of cameras? Who was Jody afraid of? Haunted by guilt and in chronic pain, DI Ryan has his own demons. And Kane, who is recovering from an incident where the professional and personal overlapped, needs to prove herself.
I loved it very much.

I would like to thank Netgalley and Hachette Books Ireland for a review copy of While She Sleeps, a police procedural set in Dublin.

Inspector Elliot Ryan and Sergeant Nola Kane start their first day of working together with an attack. Jody Kavanagh has been brutally beaten and left for dead in her own home. While Jody lies in a coma they try to piece together her life and relationships and sort out their own issues.

I enjoyed While She Sleeps, which is an absorbing read with some unexpected twists and turns. It is told from Ryan and Kane’s points of view, so the reader knows what they know and can speculate alongside them. Personally, I never guessed any of it and got surprised by every twist.

There two plot lines in the novel, Jody’s attack and Ryan’s secret investigation into an old cold case. I wasn’t overly impressed by Ryan’s secret investigation as it was bitty and didn’t reveal much, but Jody’s attack was very interesting. She maybe wasn’t the woman people thought she was and she had plenty of secrets. I like the way her life gradually unfolds as the novel progresses and the way the reveals offer new possibilities and food for thought. It keeps the reader involved and turning the pages, encouraged by the fact that only Ryan thinks that her separated husband didn’t do it.

Ryan and Kane are like chalk and cheese. He is dosed up on painkillers after an accident, but still insists on decorum and doing things by the book. She is impetuous and irreverent with a potty mouth. Their interactions are amusing and initially less than cordial, but they eventually gel into an effective team. I would gladly spend more time with them.

While She Sleeps is a good read that I have no hesitation in recommending.

This was a good read. I loved the cover and this drew me in. It was a great story line where a woman is hospitalised and the police have to work out who did it. I actually rated this book 3.5 stars rounded up as it was better than 3 stars. I enjoyed the story-line and was surprised by its ending as I wasn't expecting that outcome. Other than the shocking ending it wasn't overly thrilling well enough to be rated more. It was on the slower side of a medium paced book. It had a couple of twists which were interesting. The characters was a mixed bag some I connected well with. Others a bit forced or underdeveloped. They mostly was realistic. I am still glad I read this book as the ending was a shock. I always recommend reading a sample of books as your views maybe very different from mine.

Many thanks to the author and publishers for creating an enjoyable ending that I didn't see coming.

A brilliant detective novel for anyone that likes this type.
I really enjoyed this book.

Jody, a lovely lady, doing well in her career, recently separated from her husband. Was found assaulted and unconscious on her kitchen floor.

A new case for Detective Ryan and Sargeant Nola to get their teeth into. At the start they think it's an open and shut case but the more they delv the more threads they pull.

I really enjoyed getting to know the characters. They were realistic and relatable. A brilliant detective book.

I really enjoyed this book. The characters of DI Elliot Ryan, and his subordinate Detective sergeant Nola Kane are very interesting but diverse characters. Both characters are really well drawn, DI Ryan, recovering from a serious accident, back to put in his time to 25 years when he can take retirement, he is known around the station, unkindly, as the Fossil. This is due to his being a stickler for doing everything by the book, with great attention to detail. But he is a likeable character in spite of it all.
Nola has been effectively thrust upon Elliott as his assistant, having been demoted from a serious crime unit, to chase up stolen bikes. I loved Nora’s character, she is a law unto herself at times, a bit of a loose cannon, but essentially, like Elliott, she wants to sort out the bad guys. She has several very amusing one liners, which had me chuckling as I read. Eventually they make a very good team, as they seek to discover who attacked a young woman called Jody, in her own home, and left her for dead.. There is another intriguing story weaving through this, involving possible police corruption dating back ten years, amongst Elliot’s current colleagues.
Altogether an excellent police procedural, with first class characterisation, and a tightly plotted narrative. Highly recommended. I am delighted to have found a new author whose work I will enjoy.
My thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for my advance copy of this book.
