I enjoyed this book and, even though I hadn't read the first book, I found it didn't matter. It was gripping and engaging with great characters.

Breaking Down the Wall is the second book in the series by Maximillian Jones. Following on from The Boy Behind the Wall, the story follows on a generation after its predecessor, this time capturing the story of Greta (daughter of Jakob) in East Berlin in 1989. Showing the continued influence and power of the Stasi, the story is set in a pivotal period of change in Berlin. Desperate for change, Greta begins to join protests against the current government and quickly finds herself in more trouble than she could ever imagine.

I thought Breaking Down the Wall was another excellent read, set in a period rarely covered in children’s literature. It is an eye opening book and reminds readers of the power of our voices when we stand together. I would share this with confident readers in Year 6 and above. Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC.

I hadn’t read the first one but I really enjoyed this book. Well written without dumbing down an important subject for kids. Entertaining and educational, was drawn to the bright cover
