My daughter and I loved this little picture book, which is about a little boy called Luca, who has a day out at the beach, where he sees a mermaid. Babies, toddlers and very young children will love this book, as it is quite short, with easy to read text, and bright and colourful images. My daughter loves mermaids, so she was delighted to find the mermaid in the book.

Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book.

A cute lift the flap book for toddlers about a little boy who is looking for a mermaid at the beach. The illustrations are fun and adorable. Little hands will love spying the mermaid on each page. I do wish the book was a little longer, but it will keep a young child's interest.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing this ARC. All thoughts are my own.

With flaps, tabs, and small pop-ups, this series should be a popular book for toddlers even though it contains only three spreads per book. In Unicorn, a little girl is sure a unicorn is living in her house – can she find it? She looks in the closet, bathtub, and under the bed. In Mermaid, a boy at the beach finds a mermaid. The text is offered in one sentence per page, and the graphic-style full color artwork depicts the children with tan skin and brown hair. A well-done but minimal offering.

This short and simple flapbook allows children to explore the pages using tactile flaps to help find the mermaid. It is perfect for young children, has minimal text but very detailed and interesting pictures that will draw babies and toddlers in. I would recommend this book to parents of very young children in the age 1-4 range. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

This is a cute little lift-the-flap book even though it was really short. I like the bright colors and illustrations.

Simple, sweet, and perfect for 2 and under. The illustrations were bright and engaging, but I wish there had been maybe a page or two more.

Very cute! Loved that the main character was a boy- boys can like mermaids too! Would love to see a physical copy of the book.

An interactive book for young readers — that is about Luco who are going to the beach with his mom and wants to find a mermaid.

A fun little quick read book, and I believe that the small children will have fun with this one! The illustrations are bright and beautiful, and the pop-out flaps will for sure be popular with the search of where the mermaid is.

A book whose brevity and lack of full-on narrative are definite evidence of the very young age of the intended user. It’s barely a book, but it will at least get little hands used to holding book-like things and interacting with them. A kid is keen on seeing a mermaid at the seaside, and if we lift the flap there she is. We can see her again when we raise the tab too, before ta-dah! The final spread has pop-out 3D boy and mermaid together. So that’s it – a full book with 6pp? No, but a fully serviceable item to generate a fondness for more mature volumes when the time for them comes along.

A very short and sweet book perfectly fit for ages 2-4 year olds. This was a bit too simplistic and short for my six year old, but she did think the pictures were nice!

Thank you Netgalley and Quarto Publishing Group – Frances Lincoln Children's Books for the arc in exchange for an honest review.

Colorful, cute, and short children's story. I think it would be best suited for toddlers. I appreciate the opportunity to read and review an advanced readers copy. All opinions are my own.

Hide and Peek Mermaid is a cute, adorable, and interactive book for children. The book follows a boy around the beach, where you can catch glimpses of a mermaid! Great for new emergent readers both to read and to be read to!

This is a very short read that my 4 year old niece spent 10-15 minutes counting and discussing the beautiful pictures.

The story is short enough to memorise, making this a great book for children to identify words that they can read back to you.

Beautifully illustrated, beautifully written and very enjoyable read and discussion.

Mermaid is a fun, interactive picture book about a child's day at the beach. I loved the bright illustrations and the parts to pull up or on to expose the mermaid are really fun!
