This is a belting audiobook set around the criminal world of art and art fraud. A painting discovered at a car boot sale for the small price of £20 is taken along to Antiques road show for a valuation. The delighted couple are told that the painting could be worth millions if it is the genuine article and is authenticated.
Enter DI Grace. This is his 18th novel and we have the supporting cast of all our favourite characters. I was mesmerised with the lengths criminals will go to to recreate (fake) a painting! and the details Peter James describes in how it is done is so interesting! This is a fascinating tense book narrated by Daniel Weyman - a great choice and perfect for the voice of Peter James audiobooks! Thoroughly absorbing. Thank you Macmillan Uk Audio and Netgalley for my gifted copy.

Wow book 18 of Peter James’ Roy Grace series, where has that time gone ? In this outing, Picture You Dead, Roy Grace has been tasked with a cold case from 20 years ago where an art dealer was killed and a rare painting was presumed stolen and when builder Harry and his wife Freya find a hideous painting but in a nice frame they have no idea that beneath the painted image lies a long lost masterpiece and the seemingly safe art world has dangerous undertones,. I enjoyed the story which was expertly narrated by Daniel Weyman who managed to bring it to life and the twists were good without being distracting, my only disappointment was that Grace doesn’t seem to feature much and hopefully the next instalment will be more about him & an insight into what his son Bruno was doing?

Picture you Dead is my first book by Peter James, so I’m coming late to the Roy Grace series. I would say that if you haven’t read any of the Roy Grace books before, you can start with this book. I enjoyed the book so much, I will go back and start the Roy Grace series from the start.

The story centres on Harry and Freya Kipling, who purchase a long lost Masters painting at a car boot sale only to discover it’s worth a fortune when they take it to be valued on The Antique’s Road Show! The Kiplings problems start after the episode they feature on is aired and the art world’s undesirables all creep out the woodwork.

I loved the pace of the book - there were so many twist and turns and what an ending!

Daniel Weyman should be praised for his excellent narration.

Huge thanks to NetGalley and the publishers, Macmillan UK Audio, for the audio-ARC for the ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review and for introducing me to Peter James and Roy Grace.

Art and art forgery are at the heart of this wonderful Peter James murder mystery. I listened to the audio version and thoroughly enjoyed the narration. Detective Superintendent Roy Grace is given the task of solving the puzzling crimes that follow the accidental discovery of a potentially long lost masterpiece. The characters were well drawn and the story made compelling listening. Thanks to Net Galley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Detective Superintendent Roy Grace finds himself plunged into an unfamiliar and rarefied world of fine art. Outwardly it appears respectable, gentlemanly, above reproach. But beneath the veneer, he rapidly finds that greed, deception and violence walk hand in hand.
Harry and Freya, an ordinary couple, dreamed for years of finding something priceless buried amongst the tat in a car boot sale.
It was a dream they knew in their hearts would never come true until the day it did…
They buy the drab portrait for a few pounds, for its beautiful frame, planning to cut the painting out. Then studying it back at home there seems to be another picture beneath, of a stunning landscape. Could it be a long-lost masterpiece from 1770? If genuine, it could be worth millions.
One collector is certain that the painting is genuine. Someone who will use any method he can to get what he wants and will stop at nothing.
And Harry and Freya are about to discover that their dream is turning into their worst nightmare. . .
Book 18 of the Roy Grace series
Really enjoyed this book totally recommend

I am a huge fan of the Roy Grace series, so I was thrilled when I was given the opportunity to read and review Picture You Dead - book number 18 in this series.

Picture You Dead sees Grace and his team investigating the cold case, Operation Canvas, which introduces us to the underworld of fine art dealing. There are robberies and forgeries as well as torture and murder with the vast sums of money that are involved.

One of the things I love about this series is James' talent for keeping the readers so interested in reading about Roy Grace, his team and his family after SO many books. I still enjoy learning about Cleo's pregnancy and how the family are coping after the tragic loss of Bruno.

There are a lot of characters in this story, and it took me a little while to learn who was who. But the story itself is well written (as always) and captivated me right from the start.

Bring on number 19!!

My thanks to NetGalley and the Publishers for sending me this ARC in return for an honest review.

Not my favourite Peter James. Quite confusing on audiobook as well. Kept jumping in time and I found the characters didn’t have unique enough voices . We follow police investigating a cold case of a murdered art dealer who had found a lost work of art. Some parts were interesting and usual Grace is a great character

Another classic Roy Grace detective story that absolutely maintains interest throughout as it moves from the sinister world of art forgery and theft and Grace and his team as they attempt to solve a cold case.

I listened to the audio book and the narrator (Daniel Wayman) was fantastic. Excellent voices / accents and pitch and his superb reading of the book was a big part of my enjoyment. The other was the reunion with Grace and his team and discovering where all the characters were at. Peter James is a wonderful writer and as the story switched from scene to scene, I was engrossed.

There were a few frustrations (one had me shouting out loud!) and although there are twists, they're not really shocks. However, all in all, another triumph.

Thanks so much to NetGalley and MacMillan UK audio for the opportunity to preview.

I love Peter James’ Grace series of books so jumped at the chance of previewing the newest audiobook. I was not disappointed. Picture You Dead looks into links between a cold case involving a missing work of art and a body that turns up outside the house of a local celebrity artist and forger. Meanwhile a couple uncover a masterpiece at a car boot sale and become dragged into the mess. Just wait for the forehead slapping moment towards the end of the book. You too will shake your head in disappointment. This one is less heartbreaking than some of the Roy Grace stories. A nice cosy read.

Wow just love this author and read all of the books in this series….this one did not disappoint! Narration of this book was so good, brought the book alive for me and I easily followed the storyline. Listening to spoken word is one way I get through mundane tasks and as such I am prepared at times, to put up with a poor storyline. However, in this case I thoroughly enjoyed the tale and found myself choosing to do some simple tasks so that I could justify listening to more! Top marks!

*Many thanks to Peter James, Macmillan UK Audio, and NetGalley for the audiobook in exchange for my honest review.*
I was drawn to this title by the fact that the plot revolves around a long-lost 18th century masterpiece, its discovery and problems caused by it. A couple who enjoy boot sales are surprised by a find which turns out worth millions of pounds and being unaware of the art collectors aka predators get involved in a chain of at times dramatic events.
I have never read the Roy Grace series, however, I found this instalment easy to follow, despite not knowing some developments from the past.

I’ve read most of the Roy Grace books, but missed two or three around book 10 as I felt the series was losing a bit of impetus. There was a lot of repeated back story and I was enjoying them less. However, I recently picked up a couple of the later books in audio and was absolutely riveted by plot developments involving personal loss and professional comeback. So I’ve just finished back to back books 15, 16 and 17 and was delighted to be an early listener of this latest, Picture You Dead, number 18.

Peter James is back on top form and the character development with team changes is excellent. The Sgt is improving in his sexist attitudes, a little, but there are ongoing health concerns and I find I care about him! The two central characters remain plausible despite changes to their personal circumstances and tragedy. With Grace, there are constant clues that the story around Bruno, his son, is not finished. The same with Cassian Pugh and the corruption allegations; he’s a haunting presence.

This fast paced tale involves art forgery, boot sale bargains, theft and double cross and more. It’s filled with convincing characters and shady dealings in the world of fine arts and auction houses and I found it all very intriguing and complex. It’s satisfying all round. A police procedural thriller with authenticity and I’m pleased the series feels, for me, back on track and as gripping as ever. My thanks to the publisher for a review copy via Netgalley.
