Ah. Heroines with talent in the sciences - and ones brought up in the rough and tumble of USA working towns and society. Indeed, we never did find out how Kate learnt to curtsey and eat correctly at a banquet, or all the other 'manners' that she would have needed to acquire before being sent out into Society.
I did enjoy this light romance and found Kate, and Maddie (I would like to read her romantic story), likeable and sympathetic characters. I did like the scene in the conservatory especially, with her and the boiler.

I received an Advance Reader Copy from the publisher via NetGalley. This in no way impacted on my view.

When her father takes her to England, Kate Mason expects it's because he's handing over control of the European side of the business. Instead, her dad wants her to marry an aristocrat, and with her dowry, she should have the pick of the ton. So Kate comes up with a plan: find someone to marry who will let her have her work, and do it quickly. Sebastian, Duke of Mabury, was not in the plan, but kissing him in the garden has awoken something inside her, and she can't seem to forget him.

A quick read, and one which surprised me. I didn't expect to enjoy this as much as I did, but Kate and Sebastian's story was gripping. I loved how much Kate relished in her work, and the time she had spent with her grandfather. Being in England has scuppered her plans, but she discovers so much more about herself, that it's worth it. Sebastian had suffered in his past marriage, and had vowed that he'd never marry again. Kissing Kate makes him consider the future for once, and as the pair grew to know and understand each other, they explored their vulnerabilities and became better people for it.

Warm, romantic and different, in the very best way. This author has woven more than a hint of magic through the pages. I absolutely adored it!

Kate is american and works as an engineer for the railways in an era where women are bought up to marry well. When she is told that she must marry a duke she finds herself falling for the wrong one.

This is a historial romance which is full of emotion and sets the scene of the era.

Kate has been trained to be an engineer and dreams of fulfilling that career, her father says she has to marry a peer or her cousin, with a race against time she meets Sebastian who has swore off marriage but fate and romance has other ideas. A lovely quick read with a HEA.

Kate, an American rail engineer, and Sebastian, a Duke shunned by society, develop a forbidden attraction. Despite their passion, the conflicts seem insurmountable. He has sworn off marriage, and she has to find a husband to avoid her father's threat to choose one for her in this Victorian romance.

The romance is passionate, and their emotional connection deepens, but the many barriers to happiness make you wonder if their love is strong enough. The historical detail adds atmosphere and authenticity to this engaging romantic story.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher.

Kate is an aspiring engineer, a very modern women living in a very traditional era. She is sent to London to be a debutante and find a husband as a good match. Sebastian is a duke determined not to ever marry.
Chassis mills and boons but a good enough story to keep me entertained for a few hours.
This had all the usual quivering quotes and was a good enough book.
Thank you netgalley for this arc
In exchange for and honest review.

I just love books set in this era. Sebastian was adamant he didn't want to marry. I found him quite charming, not afraid of working hard with his tenants and being very hands on as the Duke of Mabury. I loved Kate, she had an engineering mind and was able to break things down things to solve problems.

From the moment they first met you could see the spark they had between them, then as they accidentally meet again, and again. I just loved watching this romance play out and loved both characters.

4 stars

I liked Katie, she was curvy and clever and trained as an engineer by her grandfather. Her father was a bit of a ruthless business man and had suggested that if she hadn't found herself an aristocrat he'd marry her to his creepy cousin. She realises that if she acts dumb she might be successul but previously she'd bumped into Sebastian who sees her reality. He realises eventually that she's the one for him. I think there's potential for his mother to have her own HEA if the authorwould fancy writing a story for an older heroine.

Quite passionate and an enjoyable read and a new author to me

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Kate needs a husband quickly before her father marries her off to save his business. Kate is great, sensible, level headed and a great engineer, but she isn’t a fluffy young lady that will attract a husband who is a peer quickly. Sebastian is cold and refuses to engage with others, claiming to have no friends. The pair are attached to each other and we see them want to move their physical relationship forward but Sebastian won’t engage his heart and Kate can’t wait. Such a good couple and a strong romance.
