As a gentle literary satire, Less Is Lost sometimes hits the mark. I tittered at the prize committee (“This prize is not for those kids who win everything just for putting pussy in the first paragraph”, one judge rants) and smiled at the director of a theatre company: “I am sure you have heard of our six-hour performance of To the Lighthouse (I myself played the Lighthouse) and our eight-hour performance of Gravity’s Rainbow (I myself played the Rainbow).”

I loved Less is Lost but really struggled with this sequel. The writing was, at times, cliche - as though it was desperately trying to be funny and, I’m afraid to say, often not succeeding. Not for me, sadly.

Cannot wait to read the full version of this, this taster of the sequel following Arthur Less certainly didn’t disappoint. Thanks NetGalley!

I loved returning to Less's world. This had everything I loved about the first book - travel, introspection, humour - I thoroughly enjoyed this and know its a book I'll return to time and time again.

Hard to say much about a sampler, but for me it wasn't enough to warm to the character of Less and get in to the story.

It just left me realising this isn't my cup of tea I think overall. Sorry.

It's difficult to review a sampler but I loved the quirky and funny characters and will definitely be seeking out the whole book.

Tasty teaser but I hate teasers LOL. I hope to read the whole story but not available as full book on here I guess. Hard to review.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher

Tricky to give feedback on a sample, but it was just enough to feel like I was catching up with an old friend. Look forward to reading what Arthur has been up to.

Just as the first Arthur Less’s novel, I truly enjoyed the wit and humour in this preview. How lovely it is to rekindle Less’s universe and characters. Very excited to get my hands on the novel !

I didn't read Less but the blurb attracted me and I was curious. It was love at first page as I fell in love with the style of writing, the humour, and the quirky characters.
Can't wait to read Less and Less is Lost
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine

Less was my favourite read of the year back in 2019, so I had high hopes for its follow up, Less is Lost. From reading a sample of the upcoming novel, I needn't have worried. It is full of the same witty, compelling prose as its predecessor and I fell in love with Arthur and Freddy all over again.

I can’t wait to read the full novel when it comes out next week. Thank you to Netgalley and Little, Brown Book Group UK for the sampler!

I read Less in 2019, and it was one of my favorite books of the year. I couldn't be more excited to see that Andrew Sean Greer's written a sequel. I need more Arthur Less in my life. I think we all do.

This review is based on a short "sampler" I read of the first chapter or so.

The novel starts with the funeral of Robert Brownburn, Arthur Less' former lover, and the news that Arthur has inherited a large debt on the home (the "Shack") he shares with his current boyfriend Freddy Pelu in San Francisco. At the time of Robert's death, Freddy is in Maine, and Less is planning trips to Palm Springs and Santa Fe to judge literary prizes.

Robert's parting words to Arthur were: "Get lost somewhere. It always does you good," and Less does just that. He embarks on a cross-country road trip from San Francisco to Maine to honor work obligations and figure out how to make the money they need to keep the house.

I have a feeling this will be another 5-star read for me!

A very small dose of Arthur Less and the cast that populated the first novel, this extract promises a sequel just as enjoyable and entertaining as the first.

As with the first Less outing, the writing is out of this world - but I’m unable to do justice to such a brief excerpt. and will therefore reserve final judgement until the finished version is released. Meanwhile, five stars for the sample and I’ll look forward with high anticipation for the rest.

I was wary of reading this book, never having read the much praised first book. However, my concerns were unfounded as this absolutely stands alone - although, I’m planning to read book one now!

An interesting, funny, thoroughly American road trip story; we’re taken on a journey interspersed with strange characters and I found it a light, easy read.

Thanks to NetGalley and Little Brown Book Group UK for the opportunity to preview and congratulations to the author.

Not really possible to give a book review based on a sample (I would not have requested this title if I knew it was not the entire novel) but this is a welcome return to the world of Less

It was lovely to be reunited with the hapless novelist and traveller Arthur Less in this extract from Andrew Sean Greer's new novel. Once again, Less finds himself at a point of crisis - he is now faring better professionally and contented in his relationship with Freddy Pelu, who narrates the novel. However, the death of his former lover, the poet Robert Brownburn in whose "Shack" he has been living rent-free for a decade, plunges him into financial difficulties, so he embarks on another road trip to try and rescue his situation.

Greer's writing is full of the same humour tinged with melancholy which fans of David Sedaris will enjoy. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this extract - I am looking forward to reading the whole novel when it is published!

As this is only a sample of the book it feels strange to give it a review. I am glad I get to return to this character and catch up on what has happened since the end of the previous book. I like that I am able to see things from Freddy's perspective although sometimes it would take me a moment to realise that is what was happening. I look forward to reading the full Novel.
