This is a very useful and important children's book, which shows an A to Z of how children can give consent to what they want or don't want, for example with people hugging them, touching them, being close to them etc.

The graphics are bright and colourful, and the text is easy to read. The book is 30 pages long, and the reading age is around 3-7 years, although children outwith this age would find it useful too. Highly recommended!

Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book.

This is an excellent book. I think it would be great to introduce ideas to very young children, without getting in too deep about how nasty the world can be. I think think book could be a great tool to start teaching the younger generation about consent. The pictures and writing style are cute and fun.

Thank you NetGalley for this early copy.
I read this book with my child (4) and I felt it might not have been as easy to understand at this age. I think it might be better for school age children. But I throughly enjoyed the idea especially it being in the ABC’s it made sense. I will recommend to older children and when mine is older we will be going over it again!

This is a really great picture book! It deals with very important topics that all young children should hear about. Each page has a letter of the alphabet and something to do with consent that corresponds with that letter. I highly recommend this book, for any age really.

This is a beautifully illustrated book. It introduces the topic of consent in a really accessible manner for younger kids, with lots of opportunities for open discussions.

A must for all schools and parents to help teach children what is appropriate and not.

I love the illustrations. Each letter has a full color page dedicated to it with a diverse representation of children enacting the words. The words are said as they apply to the person, almost like affirmations. “I am in charge of my body.” Children can internalize those words to be theirs in their minds. They can hear someone else say it as well as hear themselves say it to be true.

The ABCs of Consent by Krystaelynne Sanders Diggs is an awesome resource on teaching children about appropriate touching and consent. Ms. Diggs uses the ABCs to teach children in easy-to-understand words and definitions about what is and is not appropriate touch. I think The ABCs of Consent is a great resource for anyone working with children need to have in their library. Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for the opportunity to read this book. My review is also on Goodreads.

Here comes another wonderful Krystaelynne Sanders Diggs book for young readers on important topics! As with her other fabulous children's books, this one is empowering, informative and holds the belief that children can understand important topics, in this case consent, if presented in an age appropriate way. With colourful illustrations and large text, this is a great book for young readers to share with their parents or for health teachers to introduce a lesson on abuse prevention. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me and giving me the opportunity to review it.

A great introduction to young children to open the conversation of consent.

This book provides a sweet rhythmic tone to each sentence along with colourful graphics of young people. I am glad to see of the diversity of skin tones displayed within the book and wish we could've had some disability representation also, to help centre everyone in conversations of consent and inclusion.

I appreciated the different themes within the book and the ways the discussions are opened, however T is for Touch was a little more confusing than I felt it needed to be.

Overall, a welcome introduction to the topic for young people.

This essential book is beautifully illustrated and provides the groundwork for teaching consent throughout a child's life.

Ahhh there is so much that does work about this: the brown rep, the concept of consent ABCs to start these convos early, the art is just lovely…

But

The language just needs editing for me. Some of the points got redundant based on the vocab and rhymes chosen and then that made the book collectively begin to read as fear mongery instead of empowering for me. There’s so much right about this book I just think the text needs a few more passes of editing!!

Thanks to NetGalley and publishers for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The ABC's of Consent is such an important book because it really explains what consent means. The book uses each letter of the alphabet to explain parts of consent. For example is letter C is for Consent and R is for Respect. Each page uses a four line rhyme to explain what each word means. The illustrations are very colorful and bright. They go along with the descriptions on the page, and they make it easy to follow along with the content. I read the book with my 10 year old daughter, and we were able to have a discussion after each page. She said that the book helped her to understand how important it is to set boundaries. We used examples of boundaries at school and at home. The one example that stuck out to her the most was H is for Hugs. She said that it helps to know that it's her decision to hug someone. I would recommend this book to anyone with children of all ages.

The art is so cute. The ABCs were relevant and explained really well. My kids are adults now, but I wish this book was there when they were little.

5 stars.

Delightful, engaging and sharing a critically important lesson on consent. Going through the alphabet has never looked so safe. Consent is front and center here as the author goes through words related to bodily autonomy. This is best read with an adult, especially for younger students. Fantastic illustrations are paired with age appropriate content. The rhymes mostly flow easily and make it fun and easy to read aloud.

This story was both entertaining and educational, which can be a tricky balance to maintain in a children’s book, and I will be suggesting it to teachers whenever possible. Incorporating social-emotional skills and topics such as this into children's picture books is a tried and true way to teach an important life skill in a way that is fun. This would be an amazing addition for classroom libraries, counselling offices and more.

This books tackles a crucial topic for today’s children. Consent is not a point of discussion reserved only for high school aged children - it can and should start from when a child develops an awareness of their own body and this book seeks to aid that discussion.

I think that the illustrations are wonderful and if read in class these will no doubt be a great point of extending discussion. The bright colours and the diverse children represented ensures that this book, which aims to cover potentially challenging topics, is approachable, welcoming and engaging to all early years and KS1 children.

I found that some of the letters were linked to more abstract concepts such as W being tied to “worth” - a topic that would need further exploration with children. Occasionally, a couple of the letters may also need further clarification or simplification such as K being for kindness - which the book highlights is sometimes its “too good to be true”.

I appreciate the way in which this book tackles a challenging topic and look forward to sharing it with my class when we cover consent in school.

While I don’t agree with everything the book says, it is a great conversation starter about consent. What I did appreciate were the vibrant illustrations.

This is a great picture book, but it requires conversation to make sure kids understand all the concepts and scenarios.

Consent is something everyone should know and understand. If you have children, this is a great book to open the floor for discussion and educate them. I loved the bold colorful illustrations. The rhythm of the writing style flows nicely and is catchy. The message is extremely important, I do wish the Author incorporated more of a "it's those close to the family and who you think you can trust are ones who can hurt you" in somehow if that makes sense and not just a stranger danger situation. All in all, this is a great book and a must read.

Thank you NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for the eARC.
