Lieutenant Eve Dallas has another homicide to solve, this time the victim is a young teenage girl.
The investigation which follows is, as always, expertly managed whilst Eve 'stands for the dead' and any other victims caught in the crossfire of deceit, abuse and harm.
More than once during this particular investigation she gave empassioned speeches to both her superiors and her team, leaving this humble reader in floods of tears.
When I think back to previous novels, she's clearly always had a way to motivate her colleagues but with this book she has outdone herself and I genuinely believe her team would die for her and the victims she stands for.
The back story of this particular book could be especially harrowing for some but in the usual JD Robb /Lt. Eve Dallas way, we know ABSOLUTELY that we are in safe hands.

Love Dallas and Roarke and this is one of the best in the series so far. Very real, very gritty and very emotional, Desperation In Death deals with disturbing issues without pulling any punches, but somehow also manages to avoid gratuitous leery details. It is difficult to portray the issues around child trafficking, homelessness and abuse accurately and in such a way that the reader is pulled into the narrative, but Robb manages this by juxtaposing the evil of the villains with the humanity, dedication and resolve of the detectives. As always the victims are treated respectfully by the investigators an this focus on getting resolution nd justice for the victims is a winning mix. Loved it!

Book 55 in the series, it can be read as a stand alone for the crime solving part but for the back ground secondary characters it is good to get updates. It is a good solid addition to the series., this is not my favorite of the series as very dark subject matter but a good read.
A dead teenager has Lieutenant Dallas tracking down a sex trafficking ring, that has her flashing back to her past. For this story we see the players, it is more how they go about putting the pieces of the puzzle together.

I would like to thank Netgalley and Little, Brown Book Group UK for an advance copy of Desperation in Death, the fifty fifth novel to feature Lieutenant Eve Dallas of NYPSD, set in 2062.
When the body of a young girl is found in a New York park with a wooden stake through her body Dallas and her assistant, Peabody, are on the case. She is quickly identified as Mina Cabot who disappeared from Devon, Pennsylvania eight months ago. The first question is where has she been?
I thoroughly enjoyed Desperation in Death, which is an engrossing read with an intricate plot and some strong characterisation. It should be noted, however, that there is nothing cosy about the subject matter and some readers may find it distressing.
This is a clever novel. It starts with a “simple” murder and widens into a countrywide then international investigation that all develops organically without feeling contrived. I like the way it moves along at fast rate, but doesn’t skimp on the detail or the logic propelling it. It is also an emotional novel as the case brings back Dallas’s own childhood, all the trauma and mistreatment and I think the author does a great job of examining her reactions and her strength to fight through these bad memories.
Desperation in Death is a good read that I have no hesitation in recommending.

J.D. Robb’s long-running “In Death” series shows no signs of stopping, delivering futuristic crime thrillers with a strong lead and gripping plots.
“Desperation in Death” is another excellent entry in the series which may in fact be one of the best in the series as it is much more gripping than recent instalments, even against Robb's usual high standards.
Red herrings abound to wrong-foot even the most experienced crime-thriller reader and some of the supporting characters are developed further.
Truly impossible to put down, “Desperation in Death” was a stunning read from start to finish, with a sense of urgency that never lets up.

WOW …… just WOW ….. this was a very different book it was gripping and most definitely a page turner ……. These books just keep getting better and better I love the characters and the way the story unfolds …… treat yourself and get this book

I feel very lucky to have been chosen to read an advanced copy of this book. The downside was that I found myself going to sleep at about 5am when having to get up at 6:10, worth it though.
This book hooked me from the very beginning, I think if I had picked this up on a whim without having read all the other books in the in death series, it still would have gripped me.
The book starts with two girls making a plan to get out of a horrid situation. Child exploitation Ps me right off so I didn't want to put it down until the sorry excuses of human beings (even fictional) were brought to justice.
I found myself wanting to go into the book just to kick some serious a$$ and give Eve a big hug.
I find it absolutely amazing how well JD Robb can write so many characters with different personalities and make you feel everything you're meant to feel, I feel like she studied at Hogwarts!
This book is focused on two friends Mina and Dorian who against the odds were brave enough to escape their prison of a child grooming operation. They managed to get out, one has an accident that is the reason the case came into Eve's radar, the other one, Dorian hurt her leg and hit her head, she has forgotten where she came from. Eve is searching for her. Whilst the investigation is opening up new levels of depravity, the case puts a strain on Eve and Roarke.
This book has a lot of reference to child abuse and child exploitation so honestly might not be for everyone, but picturing how those responsible get their just deserts is worth it in my opinion. It took me two days of almost non stop reading to get through this book and I'm already planning to read it again when I can buy in paperback.
Looking forward to the next installment

I do think that Robb did a good job of bringing Eve’s past and her experiences into it as well. Of course, the story is written well and in an interesting way where we know who the bad guys are, but we don’t know everything about them. As the story unfolds, more truths are revealed.
DESPERATION IN DEATH is definitely one of the darker books in the series. But if you like a thrilling mystery and lots of twists and turns, then you don’t want to miss out on this one!

Eve and Roarke are back to solve another murder and right plenty of past wrongs. This case feels close to Eve when the body of a girl who disappeared from a different state many months ago turns up. She knows things are as not as they seem and needs to work really hard to find her friend before the killer does. JD Robb can’t put a foot wrong another gripping read

Thanks for the opportunity to read this!
Absolutely adore this series, I'd say this could be read as a stand alone, but if read in sync you would have all the character background!
With 55 books in the series, they just get better! 5*****

I used to read JD Robb over 10 years ago and loved them so was really excited to dip back into Eves world and wow! I'd forgotten how amazing this series was. They can easily be read as standalone books or like me, if you were a long time fan who just got out the way then this will rekindle the poverty for the series. They're so well written and I love the characters! They're so well developed and it's impossible not to just adore them. This series gets you completely engrossed and they move at such a good pace without every getting repetitive. Who else could write a 55 book series with constant new and untie storylines?! I'll definitely be downloading the past 10 years worth and getting stuck back in. An amazing series

Eve Dallas is back in her 55th outing set in a futuristic New York, with her usual cohort of of support from Roarke, Peabody, Feeney, Mira and the rest.
A body of a 12 year girl is found in a park which leads Eve and her team uncovering a child trafficking and exploitation ring.. With a crime that harks back to her own past and a deadline to beat this is a fast paced and exciting crime story.
JD Robb continues to develop a series of well plotted, readable stories that hook you in from the first page. Having read all of the series so far i keep wondering what Robb is going to come up with next.

Desperation In Death by JD Robb
I give this book 4.25 stars
Mina Rose Cabot, age thirteen, disappeared walking home from soccer practice in Devon, Pennsylvania.
Eight months later her body is found in Battery Park, New York, speared through the chest by a three-inch piece of wood.
Lt. Eve Dallas knows that whoever took Mina is responsible for her death. But who took her and where has Mina been for eight long months...?
This is book 55 but could still be enjoyed as a standalone.
We join up again with Eve ( such a gutsy female lead) Roarke and Peabody in a case with a darker story line of child exploitation that hits close to home for our Lieutenant .This one is written with you knowing who is involved then finding out how and why along with the police.l love this series and the familiar characters that grow within each book and seem so real to me. The author has a knack for presenting a solid murder mystery with all the elements l want time after time.
With thanks to Netgalley,JD Robb and Little, Brown Book Group UK, Piatkus for my chance to read and review this book

Great book, I had heard that J D Robb was a good author, absolutely! I liked everything about this book, great storyline, great characters and a well paced read.
Unfortunately this is book number 55, so I now have at least 54 books to read so that I can find out the back story, but that seems like a great plan!

I firmly believe that J.D. Robb can do no wrong.. I've read all her 'In Death' books. I found myself reading faster in different sections. I was glad to see Mavis in the storyline.
I firmly recommend this book.
I gave this a fair and honest review. This book was given to me by Netgalley.

I'm a long time fan of the Lt Eve Dallas series and have really enjoyed (almost all of) them, so I was pleased to pick this one up.
This is another good instalment - it deals with the disturbing subject of sex trafficking children and adults, the desperation of the title only too true for the victims. Of course Eve has echoes of her own past coming up for her and Roarke to battle with, as she works to shut down the sex trafficking organisation and rescue as many of the victims as possible. The character development over the series shows here, with the evolving way the couple deal with this.
The story moves at a pace and although you have peeks at what the bad guys are doing as the story progresses and can be sure Eve will bring them to account, JD Robb still hustles the reader along with her story and has them invested in Eve's work to get the victims found and the bad guys stopped. And it was fun to see Nadine and Mavis and the others again, popping up in the story to play their parts.
Looking forward to Eve's next case already!

I always know exactly what to expect from a J. D. Robb book. I've read each in the (very long) series so far and have followed the characters as they've grown and developed into their current form. Some of the books have been a bit below the expected quality but when you've written over 5o books, not all of them are going to be of the same quality.
This is good. At the start of the book, two girls escape from The Academy where they are being groomed into obedient sex trafficking victims. I don't want to spoil what happens after they escape. The many victims in the book vary in age and background and there are moments where Eve Dallas can't help but think of her own start in life. When the police locate them, it's not easy for them to find The Academy to shut it down, help the victims and arrest the baddies.
All of the main characters play a prominent role in finding the rest of the victims
Almost all of the longstanding secondary characters appear: Nadine, Reo, Morris, D*ckhead, Jenkinson, Mavis, Crack, Dennis and so on. They don't feel shoehorned in and play a role in solving the crime.
Like I say, I always know what to expect from a book in this series. I enjoy settling down with a coffee and immersing myself in the New York of the 2060s for a while. This book is no exception. I thoroughly enjoyed this visit and I find myself still looking forward to the next one. That's quite the compliment in a series of 50+ books.

JD Robb does not disappoint. The cast of characters with the central theme is still presen. Whilst drawing in peripheral characters for more story presence that you hope will reappear in future books.
Her imagination of diabolical crimes against humanity knows no boundaries and the revulsion you feel for the perpetrators will be real.
A page Turner as usual.

A standout character that gets under your skin is the basis for an excellent long running police procedure series.
Eve Dallas is a cop before anything else. It is her whole life. It is who she had to become after an horrific childhood. She has let Roarke into this life. A loner like herself until they recognised their sole mate. Set in the future with high tech helping in the investigation of a child trafficking ring. This will become very personal for Eve.
This is a long running series that keeps to such a high bar. Every story can be read as a stand alone and you can join the party at any point.
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

J.D. Robb as usual creates an intriguing story. Like the last few books, the readers are aware who are the villains before the end of the book and the focus is more on Eve, Roarke, their relationship with each other and with the people around them and in solving the case.
The story as usual is very well written and is hard to put the book down until the end. I continue to enjoy this series and can’t wait for the next book.
