The Foster Family by Nicole Trope is well-written and easy to read. The plot is straightforward, the characters are well-developed and easy to either like or dislike as 'appropriate'.

Elizabeth and Howard take their young foster son Joe to a holiday house at the beach where they meet Gordon, their elderly neighbour who is suffering from memory-loss. Gordon soon realises that Joe and his foster family may not be happy. Howard is an angry man with an unhappy relationship with his wife and and even less positive relationship with Joe. When Joe goes missing and Gordon wants to tell the police what he thinks he remembers. Gordon's son comes to stay and his local knowledge proves invaluable in the search for Joe.

I especially enjoyed the ay the author developed Gordon's character in the centre and kept the relationship with his son who was always coming to visit somehow critical to the ending/resolution. Indeed, for me, that was the real story and so the title misdirected the reader's attention to the family and not the neighbour.

Wow this book! I love Nicole Trope always but this one was extra amazing. A domestic thriller that tugs at your heartstrings and makes you feel all the feels. Parts were honestly hard to read but it was eye opening to a very harsh reality that should be talked about more. The characters were so well developed, I loved them so much. I couldn't put it down and I cried at the end. Would give more than 5 stars if I could!

When Nicole Trope has a new book out, I order it and read it as quickly as I can. Nicole never disappoints, and this one was one of her best.

While it's hard to read about a spouse who is so controlled and intimated by her husband, it's very real for many people every day. The author did a great job of telling us why the wife put up with the abuse for so long and why she stayed with her abusive husband.

If you're looking for a book that's hard to put down, and hard to forget, this is the one.

I see a lot of recommendations for Nicole Trope's thrillers, so was excited for this one.
This is a fast paced thriller which also highlights some major themes and issues. Some scenes were brutal to read, and made for very uncomfortable reading.
The setup of the book took a little adjustment, with the different POVs, but the timeline is easy to follow.

This book was a real page-turner. There are lots of twists and turn and it’s certainly a suspenseful read that once you delve into, you won’t want to let go.

This is a difficult read at times, but very important to raise awareness of real life issues. I’d highly recommend checking TWs if you have any concerns.

Thank you to Nicole Trope and NetGalley for a copy of the Foster Family which I really enjoyed and read through in a matter of hours. I found the story easy to get lost in, whilst finding out more about how the foster system works and the challenges for both the children and careers.

I felt that the characters were well developed and all of the decisions made by the characters in the book would relate to how I saw them.

Would highly recommend it.

i enjoye this book, althougth some parts were difficult to read. The story is narrated in an alternating timeline from then and now. The storyline is emotional but is also a suspenseful story with many twist and turns.

The whole thing was a little hard to read for me, as poor Gordon was slipping into dementia and no one took him seriously, and Howard was just awful overall. That being said, I felt for (most of) the characters and thought that the suspense was well done.

The ending was tied up just a little too cleanly and caused me to suspend my disbelief a bit, but it was also satisfying.

I love this author, she really knows how to weave a story. This book is no exception.
The characters are well written and the story flows at a fast pace.
There may not be lots of twists and turns but the story tugs at your heart and left me feeling disappointment at what our world has become.
I recommend this author every chance I get.

Another gripping story from Nicole Trope. Heartbreaking in places but a great story. And I just loved the character of Gordon.
Many thanks to Netgalley for the chance to read this brilliant ARC

This book really tugged at my emotions. I spiralled from fury to disappointment, joy to despair and left me wiping my eyes at the end. That doesn't sound much like a psychological thriller but I assure you it is. There are several mysteries which are revealed almost painfully slowly and really keep you guessing. They also ensure that you read the book in one sitting, there's no way you could sleep with all those questions running around your head. If you've never read.Nicole Trope give this book a go, I promise you'll be hooked.

I love Nicole Trope’s books and The Foster Family doesn’t disappoint! I devoured it in two days!! Elizabeth and Howard are fostering a young boy, Joe. Elizabeth is thrilled to possibly adopt this sweet child. But Howard isn’t the perfect husband or father he claims to be.
Gordon, the elderly man suffering from dementia stole my heart! He was trying to do the right thing. His frustration with his memory was heartbreaking. There are some heavy topics in this book, but goodness will prevail. Many thanks to Bookouture, the author and NetGalley for a complimentary copy of the book. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

What an amazing book this is. It’s so much more than just a thriller, it’s a gritty and sometimes shocking read, but it’s also emotional and touching.

I really liked Elizabeth and of course, Joe, but I think my favourite character was Gordon, the old man across the road who had such a lovely caring nature.

The story is told from multiple points of view and when the strands of the plot all begin to come together it all makes perfect sense and there were several characters who I really wanted to be ok. There’s a rising tension and suspense as we near the end of the story and I really couldn’t put it down at this stage.

This is one of those books that completely drew me in, and I almost felt as though I was watching a movie rather than reading a book. It was so clearly depicted that I could visualise everything in my mind.

While I raced through this book, needing to know what happened next, I was also reluctant for it all to end, because I was so engrossed in it.

A really superb book, this one will stay with me for some time to come. Highly recommended.

Thank you, NetGalley and the Publisher for the eARC!
There were a lot of flashbacks in the book and jumping from different characters and their story which was a tad confusing at times. Overall, I enjoyed this book and the puzzling mystery that leads up to finding Joe.

A wonderful, fast paced, heart wrenching read.
This one tugged at your heart strings and made you cringe in fear. You can feel the helplessness of the characters it was so well written. The characters became like family. Fast paced, full of twists and turns and suspense. Jaw dropping, heart pounding moments aplenty.
This one is a must read

True crime fans and Australian readers will pick up on the inspiration for this novel. The author, as with her other novels, has written a topical story that will probably stay with you for a bit after reading, either emotionally or psychologically. With a focus on domestic violence, The Foster Family is probably not a book for everybody. Although the main story of the missing child is important and well-written, the additional undercurrent that looks at our attitude towards older people and those we see as "not all there" is equally powerful.

Overall, this one is well-paced and emotionally gripping. Despite the heavy topic, it is a page-turner as you wonder and hope for Joe's safe return.

I have read a few books by this author and this is one of her best. Both heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time. A well written, compelling read with well developed characters. I found myself flying through the pages because I had to find out what was happening.
Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture, and Nicole Trope for letting me read “The Foster Family” in exchange for an honest review!

I've never read anything by this author before but wanted a thriller and this seemed perfect.
This book was simple but effective. I wouldn't call it original but it was definitely a page turner.
I liked the characters. They were believable and real.
I didn't like that I felt there were some parts that would have made great twists but ended up being missed opportunities.
Overall a good read and one I'd recommend to a friend.
Looking forward to what this author comes out with next.
