This was a great book packed full of wonderful pictures. The book starts by looking at the origins of the dog from wild to domesticated dogs. Then looks at the behaviour etc of our favourite breeds of dogs. It contains so fascinating facts that I didn't know. And loved that i was learning mew facts. This fantastic photograph based book is great for all the family to read together and enjoy the facts of dogs. I just loved the section looking at puppies I definitely looking and read that section more than once as the pictures were just so cute. The books layout was great and it flowed so well. Everything was explained well making it very easy to read and understand fir all ages. Each section looks at a different characteristic such as behaviour etc. Each section starts with a basic description then moves on to show this facts with pictures. Each picture contains a description with a fascinating fact. If you love looking at great dog pictures then this book is definitely for you.

Many thanks to the author and publishers for producing a great book packed full of beautiful pictures that would look great on anyone's bookcase or coffee table. You will love looking at this book time and time again.

This was another fantastic nonfiction book from Amber Books, full of gorgeous photos of all sorts of dogs. As always there were amazing photos, with clear short text, stopping it from being too heavy on detail and boring. The book is split up into seven chapters including an Introduction, Wild Dogs: The First Breeds, Hunting Dogs, Working Dogs, Companion Dogs, Puppies, and Dog Behaviour.
There was always a dog in my family when I was growing up, usually a rescue from the local animal shelter, so this was a brilliant book to learn about all the different breeds from around the world.
Did you know that the Old English Sheepdog aka the Dulux dog, is now listed as endangered as it’s no longer popular? Also that Greyhounds can run at 70kph (45 mph), which is twice as fast as humans? 😲 and that boxer dogs were developed to catch wild boar?! Another fact I found particularly interesting was that German Shepherds were renamed Alsatians in the UK during WWI, to distance itself from Germany during the conflict. I remember calling them Alsatians when I was child and I’m not that old, 😂 so I wonder when they changed the name back again?
My favourite chapter was the working dogs which was fascinating. I knew about guide dogs, therapy dogs, police dogs, farm dogs and rescue dogs, but I hadn’t really thought about dogs being used to rescue swimmers before. There’s a fantastic photo of an Italian Water Rescue dog being dropped in water from a low flying helicopter so it can help pull the troubled swimmers to the shore. Isn’t that amazing!
The puppy chapter was gorgeous, full of photos of cute puppies, being well cute puppies! 😂
If I had to pick one dog from this book it would be a Dachshund they’re so cute and there’s a few photos of them, especially a very cute one of a group of puppies.
Highly recommended if you love dogs, but just like the Cats book, probably not a good idea if you’re thinking of getting one as you’ll probably want them all! 😂

Not only are these special creatures often our dearest and most loyal friends, dogs are also bred to work with animals including sheep, trained as guards and guides, carry out rescue and security missions, trained to hunt and retrieve birds and sniff out truffles.

In his book Dogs, Tom Jackson includes snippets of information on wild dogs such as the bat-eared fox and the bush dog; hunting dogs including Ibizan hound, English foxhound and Italian pinone; working dogs such as Pyrenean sheepdog and Turkmen wolfhound and companion dogs such as the Cesky terrier and Clumber spaniel. Not only that but he includes a delightful chapter on puppies with brief information on breeding, training, feeding, exercise and communication. He discusses behaviour and the importance of fun.

As a passionate dog person I adore this gorgeous, gorgeous book with oodles of information on familiar dog breeds and also those I knew nothing about...but do now! The phenomenal photographs beautifully capture facial expressions and emotions, various activities and just looking cute.

Dog lovers will especially be smitten with this book but it would also appeal those who know little about these most loyal of animals and wish to learn more. No one could possibly resist!

My sincere thank you to Amber Books Ltd. and NetGalley for the privilege of reading this lovely book. The photographs caused my heart to melt into a big old puddle!

This book is utterly delightful! Dogs, dogs, and more dogs. The photography is great. The book is divided into sections depending on the type of dog and the work they do: wild dogs, hunting dogs, working dogs, companion dogs, puppies, and dog behavior.

The captions are informative, and you’ll find yourself saying, oh, so cute, oh, look at that, over and over. It’s perfect for any dog lover. I really enjoyed it. It comes out September 14. Thank you to Amber Books and NetGalley for my copy.

This book contains lovely photography and informative captions, though sometimes the placement of these was a little difficult to follow in an ebook format. Photos were often separated from their corresponding captions - I'm sure this would work much better as a physical book. It's a good overview of different types of dogs, including wild dogs, and serves as an interesting introduction, though given its relatively short length there are aren't that many breeds included. Still, great photographs to keep you turning the pages, and a delightful book overall.

Dogs by Tom Jackson takes a look at wild dogs, hunting, working, and companion dogs, puppies and dog behaviour. I learnt quite a few things, for instance that there is a wild raccoon dog native to Siberia that has an uncanny resemblance to the North American raccoon although they are completely unrelated. I loved reading about all the ways in which dogs help people and some of the jobs they used to do. The chapter on behaviour was not all that informative, I’ve never had a dog but I did know most of the mentioned facts. However, that didn’t bother me at all since all the facts are captions to some gorgeous photos I loved looking at. I had a great time reading and looking at this book. It sports some absolutely stunning photos: the puppy section especially had me oohing and aahing, there’s a drop dead gorgeous image of a husky (one of my favourite breeds), and some of the action photos are simply magnificent. The perfect book to gift to yourself and/or any dog lover you might know.

*** I have received and read an E – ARC from NetGalley in exchange for honest feedback. All thoughts and opinions are my own.***

I’d give it a 4.5/5 stars, but round down to 4/5 because the author had an opportunity to do a chapter on shelter/rescue dogs instead of only focusing on the full blood breeds.

There are also sections on wild dogs, foxes, coyotes, and wolves from around the world.

Overall, it’s a coffee table book what beautiful photos. Nothing new, but high quality photos are always appreciated.

What stunning portraits there are in this book! Amber books always has such exceptional photographs in their publications. I wondered how this book could be different from the many books about dogs already on the market ? Apart from the quality of the photography this book also approached the subject in a different way. The chapters are divided up into chapters headed Wild dogs, Hunting Dogs, Working Dogs (including dogs used in the services and for security), Companion Dogs, Puppies and Dog Behaviour. I particularly found the first chapter - Wild Dogs- fascinating. I never knew there were so many different types of fox for example. There were also several different breeds of dog that I hadn’t come across before. There was enough information given to get your interest, but not so much that it was boring. Whilst being informative on the subject the focus for me was on the beautiful photographs so this makes a lovely artistic ‘coffee table’ book too. This book would make a great gift for any dog lover, for artists as the photos are a great resource for animal portrait practice, or anyone who loves photography. I will certainly be buying a few copies for Christmas gifts !

Furry babies!!! I absolutely love dogs. In fact my Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok have been trained to give me mostly dog content. I can never tire of looking at dogs, so this book was made for me. The book is divided into sections like wild dogs, working dogs, hunting dogs, companion dogs, dog behavior, and puppies. Each section contains a lot of large full-color photos of dogs just being dogs. Mom of the breeds I had heard of, but there were several that were new to me. The photos are all captioned, but the captions don't provide a lot of detailed information. It's clear that the main star of the book is the dog pictures and not the information, and that's just fine with me. This book would make a great gift to any dog person in your life.

This picture book offers you gorgeous photos and plenty information about Dogs. Mostly catalogue about the origin wild dogs and the breeds create for various purposes such as hunting, working and companionship dogs. The photos are beautiful and high quality but personally I need more information about this species such as treatment, diets, training or healthy issues for each breed.

This book is perfect to dog lover who love light read on their coffee table. Thank you Netgalley and Amber Books for let me read this book. My thoughts are my own.

This is a beautiful coffee table book with the main focus being photos of dogs. The sections include: Wild Dogs, Hunting Dogs, Working Dogs, Companion Dogs, Puppies and Dog Behavior. Each photo includes identification of the breed and a small blurb or fun fact. This is most useful for enjoying the photos, seeing rare breeds and learning a few tidbits of fact. This would not be useful learning detailed information on breeds or for training and care pets. I can see this easily as a gift for a dog lover or as book to checkout from the library for a chance to enjoy the photos. Thank you to Netgalley and Amber Books Ltd for a temporary eARC in exchange for a review.

Of course any dog lovers out there will be grabbed by the title and cover of this book. The photography is very well done. I thought there'd be more dog breeds included but what's there doesn't disappoint. I enjoyed the part about fixes and wolves and where the domesticated dogs came from.
This book is a great gift idea for dog lovers and makes a terrific coffee table book.

This was the most awesome book, and detailed book I’ve read yet on dogs all dog breeds, including wolves and foxes all the canine family. The graphics were the best I’ve seen for a reference book like this, original & in their natural habitats or dog breeds photographed at thier very best and creatively. All the stars. Absolutely loved this.

Not what I expected, but still nice to read. Tom Jackson introduces each chapter with a brief overview of each class of dog before moving onto the various breeds within that group, accompanied by beautiful pictures. More of a coffee table book than an informative reference, this will make any reader happy who just like looking at dogs

Many thanx to Net Galley, the publishers and the author for allowing me to read and review this book

Firstly, I am a huge animal lover, especially dogs, secondly, any dog books I see are read and placed in my library!

This is a beautifully photographed book with some stunning pictures, showing many breeds at work, where appropriate, hunting and at rest. The photographs are extremely clear and show the many skills our canine friends have.

The descriptive text allows us to learn snippets of information as well as describing the many ways in which breeds interact with humans.

A beautiful coffee table book to grace most homes and will be looking out for this to add to my doggie collection!!

Dogs is a great resource for all dog-lovers! I really loved the inclusion of a chapter on wild dogs, and where domesticated dogs came from. I liked that the photos didn't feel like generic stock images of dogs, but rather dynamic shots of dogs in nature and working. I appreciated the descriptions of all the different tasks different breeds perform.
