I always love a good pirate story and this was no exception especially when it includes treasure hunting for a secret map. I liked the plot and the focus on the second half of Alosa's abilities which I had started to suspect were not natural. The romance was a bit insta love but I'm not a romance reader so it's not that big a deal, I could take it or leave it. It's hard to do world building when most of the plot is set on a ship, so I'm excited to see how this progresses in the next books if the famous islands from the trea ure map are eventually reached and would definitely read the next book.

I read it quite a time ago, but I was super busy at work and I didn't have the time to make an acceptable review. I really love books with pirates and this one didn't disappoint me. I already read the second book and It was pretty good as well!

Having read this in a previous life I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of the updated book in order to provide feedback.

Pirates and treasure hunts... what's not to like. For those that like to take a deep dive in to the sea and seek adventures with tension, romance and dramatics.

A true slow burn story (which can be some of my favourite kind of stories) laced with some not so serious dramatics and oh so over the top hits here and there. The sassy main character lured you in to the pages and with some of Tricia's delightful hidden information drops throughout the book the reader is left wonder what's coming next.

This book was a light and easy read which was enjoyable but I will say the setting left me wanting a slightly as I was personally missing some great world building (understandably given that we're at sea). I'm interested to see what's next for the series.

Thank you for the E-ARC copy of this book. What can I say but this was fun. This was the first book that I read by this author. Would highly recommend this series and so happy we are now getting another instalment soon. The adventure and the romance on the high seas on engaging and a quick enjoyable read.

I loved the setting in this book I found it very enjoyable, I would say this book is aimed at the younger end of the YA fandom. I think my daughters (13 & 14) would enjoy this alot more. I will be purchasing book 2 Daughter of the Siren Queen mainly to see where Alosa's and Riden's Friendship ends up. And what adventures wait them.🦜

This book was so beautiful! The romance carried the entire book and for once, it was a pure enemies to lovers romance. I loved both main characters, they were total badasses. The world building was amazing, and made you almost forget about the real world. The tone was light and fun and that allowed the book to pass lightly and in two days, I had already finished it. Would totally recommend, in particular to those who loves pirate stories as much as me!

A quick read if you love treasure-hunting stories.

Alosa is not like other girls, she was raised by her father (the pirate king, who would've guessed?) to be ruthless, has her own pirate crew and a terrible secret (what would it be, it's almost like the title of book two spoils it).

She's on the hunt for something for her father, and in order to find it she has to get herself kidnapped by a rival ship. A rival ship that happens to have a smoking hot and broody first mate. What will happen next will shock you.

Daughter of the Pirate King was a bit predicting for me, I had to get used to Alosa as I found her insufferable in the beginning, but it was an enjoyable read. See this book as a nice palate cleanser in between a couple of heavier fantasy books.

Will I read the sequel? Yeah probably, but it's not high on my priority list.

Ok, why did I not read this one sooner?! It’s so much fun and so easy to read that I really regret not picking it up ages ago!
I loved the twists, the pacing, the jokes… and Riden❤️
Plus Alosa is 100% who and how I want to be “when I grow up” 😂
Can’t recommend it enough and can’t wait to read the next one!

This was a fascinating, unique tale based on pirates and sirens. The characters were well-developed and the banter between the main characters is brilliant to read.

I am completely obsessed with Tricia Levenseller after reading this one book. It inspired me to buy and read every other book she's ever written, and I can't wait for the third in this Pirate King series. Lots of fun, romance, drama - you'll read it in one sitting and then want all of her other books like I did.

What a great book! I was hooked so quickly, coming to love Alosa in no time at all.

I really enjoyed how fast-paced it is and the rich description throughout. I was totally immersed in it and read it all in a day!

The adventuring was amazing, I love a training montage and the escapes gave me that kind of atmosphere.

I did find that sometimes Alosa had it a bit easy but as it is a YA book, that is kind of expected for the audience.

I love Riden as a character, he was sweet but not without charisma and a bit of a pirate edge! Cannot wait to see how the romance between him and Alosa develops in the next book.

I’ve never read a pirate book before but I absolutely will be embracing them from now on :)

Thank you so much to Pushkin Press and NetGalley for my e-ARC xxx

Tricia Levenseller has done it again. This new world created is utterly beautiful with the atmosphere created and the beautiful descriptions, I was able to sail through the book smoothly. Sea what I did there. I just cant help myself. The pacing of the book was steady and just right for the tone set. The ending of this book has be begging for more. I would definetly reccomment this book and anything else the author comes out with!!!

☠️ Daughter of the Pirate King ~ A review ☠️

Big thanks to @netgalley & @pushkin_press for the opportunity to read and review this new YA fantasy ✨️

Synopsis ~
Alosa is on a mission to retrieve an ancient hidden map-the key to a legendary treasure trove. She's allowed herself to be captured by her enemies so she can search their ship. More than a match for the ruthless pirate crew, Alosa has only one thing standing between her and the map: her captor, the unexpectedly clever and unfairly attractive first mate Riden. But not to worry, for Alosa has a few tricks up her sleeve, and no lone pirate can stop the Daughter of the Pirate King...

This was an interesting one to read as it's not your typical fantasy drama as rather than being on a literal adventure she's on a ship trying to subtly gain access to the map she needs....

I really liked the concept of this one and that we had a lead woman main character as a fierce pirate & her dynamic with Riden was intriguing to read too. I also enjoyed the general direction of the book.

The only issues I had with it was the repetitiveness of how she was holding back (so as to not show her true abilities), and how it kept telling us how amazing and what a great warrior she was... I'd prefer it if it were shown more, perhaps through flashbacks. I also wanted a bit more depth to Riden, like a more emotionally told back story, and some more subtle building up of his interactions with Riden as at times they felt a bit stilted.

Having said all that it is a fun fantasy that's definitely suited for the YA demographic, with a fun pirate theme & a new engaging concept.

Overall I gave this ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thank you so much to Pushkin and NetGalley for an e-arc of this book.

I really like the premise of this book, and I think the sequel will work on the bits that could use improvement. I always like Tricia Levenseller’s books and they are an author I would always recommend.

For me I found the characters a bit flat, but the ending really ramped things up and I think the sequel will help develop the characters. I do really like the idea and I hope there is more world building in the sequel now that things are all set up.

I wasn’t expecting to enjoy this book as much as I did but I found it to be utterly addicting. The writing is well paced and well structured and I felt like the story was well planned and executed. The characters are fantastic. I loved the main character and her whole story from point A to point B. Her relationship with the love interest was well built and they had heaps of genuine chemistry. Every scene they had together gave me butterflies and I was itching for them to interact again. I really enjoyed the world. It was vague enough that it didn’t get bogged down in too many specifics, but built and strutted well enough to be believable. The entire book sucked me in and when I wasn’t reading it, I wanted to be reading it. I couldn’t stop thinking about it. This book helped me realise that I love stories about pirates and boats!

DNF at 25% - couldn't get through this. It was very detailed but it felt like I'd stepped into the middle of a book, not the beginning. The protagonist has a lot of good qualities I'd usually love in a heroine but we didn't get to learn about them naturally and build a relationship with her - it jumps straight into 'I'm feisty and I've been kidnapped' and then proceeds to just be the same events every night. She sneaks out. The guys come talk to her. She isn't given much food. Repeat. It just feel like there should have been a lot more build up and then a faster pace once the events start happening. I've read a quarter of the book and she's in the same situation she was in on page 10.
