Yes! Love a pirate story, and what was great about this one is that we got the swagger, the arrogance, the ambition, the funny 'I'm amazing' yet sometimes a bit slapdash with a heart vibes of Jack Sparrow, but in the main character of Alosa.

I've seen a few people who didn't gel as much with her, and I think her arrogance is part of that, and I usually don't like strong female leads portrayed as smug either, but somehow Alosa didn't feel unnecessarily smug to me, she just felt piratey, and as the daughter of pirate royalty, was actually brought up to fend for herself and constantly prove to herself and others that she is an actual badass, so the swagger works for me.

This actually felt like YA as well, not just a barely strung together plot with occasional adult steam thrown in presented as YA, it felt fun, romantic, and about knowing yourself, so works really well as a bridge between Middle Grade and more adult fiction,

Can't wait for the sequel!

Interesting story with strong a strong mc

"Daughter of the Pirat King" is the first book in Trisha Levenseller's dilogy of the same name and features Alosa and Riden's story.

The story was quite different from what I had imagined. The focus is on Alosa, who, on behalf of her father, the pirate king, is captured by the sons of the notorious pirate "Jeskor the Headbreaker" to get to an important treasure.

I was well entertained by the story. But I had the feeling that Alosa took up too much space in the story. The brave and cheeky pirate princess has such a strong presence that she displaces everyone else. As a result, Riden's light was pretty much hidden under a bushel. Unfortunately, the plot remained very one-dimensional. You didn't get to see anything of the world, but the magical elements were pretty cool.

I'm looking forward to the second book!

This book has been on my radar for long. I’ve heard many positive things about it but I was a bit hesitant to pick it up because I didn’t like The Shadows Between Us by the same author.

However I couldn’t pass up the chance to read it when it was readily available on NetGalley.

Suffice to say I read it in one go without interruptions .

Alosa’s ridiculous attempts at finding the missing piece of the treasure map for her father was definitely what kept me reading this book.

She lets herself get kidnapped by her father’s enemy to steal a piece of the map their enemy inherited, just like her father and his other enemy did. Her every hard earned efforts to reach the map was thwarted by the first mate of the Night Farer.

Next in the line to the Pirate King, she was feared by her father’s men and respected by her crew. She’s half siren so she can tap into her powers whenever she needed to unleash terror on those who bugged her even though she was somewhat ashamed of being a siren.

Riden was an unforeseen distraction whom she couldn’t figure out till the end. He kept tilting the balance whenever she was close to reaching her goal.

Night Farer was run by interesting crew. We get to know a few of them in the story. There were two members who were hilarious and made the whole kidnap thing far more amusing than it was.

This book gets a big yes from me. I’m currently reading book 2, thanks to Pushkin Press for that and can't wait to see how things are about to go down in Ava-Lee.

ARC kindly provided by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest and fair review.

I've always wanted to read this book as I love pirates, magic and adventures, soooo here I am!

Alosa is the daughter of the infamous Pirate King and she has a secret mission to accomplish: she has to retrieve an ancient hidden map. Thus, she gets captured - on purpose - by her enemies and, once on their ship, she starts her job by looking for the map.

This book is such a page turner! The writing is pretty simple and the storyline is easy to follow and very fast paced. It was predictable at times, but it didn't bother me at all. The slow burn is a real slow burn and it was so good. The best part of it all is, obviously, Alosa: she is such a strong character, brilliant, clever, well-trained, cunning, confident and fun. I just love her very much. She is, by all means, a female Jack Sparrow and probably she's even better (and more sober lol). She's a feminist and her crew is full of badass pirate girls, however we didn't see much of them. And then there's Riden... yeah I just love him.
After you read tihis book, you must read Riden's chapter from his pov!! That's so worth it, trust me.

My rating: 3.5!

Daughter of the Pirate King is an action-packed, laugh out loud fast-paced read, perfect for fans of Pirates of the Caribbean.

I loved Alosa, she is cunning and clever and ruthless. I loved that she was fierce and relied on no-one but herself. I thought the banter between her and Riden was witty and amusing and I loved their chemistry. So much so, I read this in under 24 hours. The story is fairly slow paced in the first half but the pace really picks up in the last 40-50% of the book. I think this is due to most of the first half taking place on the ship. The romance is slow burn but there are lots of swoon-worthy moments between Alosa and Riden, I can't wait to see how it progresses in the second book.

Overall this was a really fun read and I can't wait for the sequel.

Thank you to Pushkin Press and Netgalley for the e-arc in exchange for an honest review.

This was surprisingly very good. I liked the plot, but for a long time I was worried that the only plot would just be her on the night fare the whole way. I’m glad there was more to it, and I was quite shocked by the second kidnapping and twist - so brownie points for that.

I liked the romance between Riden and Alosa. For him it feels so forbidden, and you can see how conflicted he is, but he genuinely makes an effort to protect Alosa - despite her being an enemy. Their flirting was pretty cheesy, but I guess it was okay. I liked seeing Alosa catch feelings for him at the end (although she doesnt seem to wanna admit it!). Riden is a sweetie pie, and his sweet and oddly shown kindness to Alosa has a warm and safe feeling that I loved.

I can’t give this a 5 star rating because the ending just didn’t cut it. It was so abrupt - i would’ve liked it so much more if there was a twist or a cliffhanger. I mean to some extent there was a cliffhanger, but it was incredibly weak. And honestly if you didn’t want to commit to the duology, the first books ending feels like a conclusion anyway - so you’ll be fine.

Headlines:
Swashbuckling fun
Parent problems
Frenemies

This book was just a fun romp from start to finish. It was light, adventurous but with solid plot and characterisation. Alosa was like disney Merida but at sea and older. I enjoyed her feisty behaviour, her leadership and her risk-taking.

There were two brothers in this debacle, one good and one bad. I liked the good one...
It was a pretty bloodthirsty read and any killing was just brushed by but it fit the tone of the piece and the fast-paced narrative.

I didn't like the Pirate King and I'm wanting more about this from book two; he made me sneer when he was on and off the page. I want to know more about Alosa's mother, so as I say, parent problems.

Daughter of the Pirate King is the kind of read that sweeps you up for a day or so and you don't think of other books because it occupies your time and mind.

Thank you Pushkin Press for the review copy.

Objectively i can see why people would like this book it just wasn’t for me i just found it boring in some parts and really struggled to finish it

This is a fantasy romance with a difference and that being that it has a female main character who is independent and knows her own mind. I loved the story and how the characters developed the storyline. I can not wait to read the sequels to this series

A fun, swashbuckling book with a hilarious main character and smart, witty banter that’s not overdone or tedious. I really enjoyed reading this book: everything about Alosa was entertaining and fun. She was riveting and her ruthlessness didn’t feel off whenever it surfaced. I loved how the book didn’t seem to take itself too seriously. A fun, high paved adventure.

I had high expectations of Daughter of the Pirate King. I've always loved pirates and I do love Pirates of the Carribean. However this book did not live up to it.

Alossa lets herself get kidnapped by this pirate crew to retrieve a map. But she finds a little more than she bargained for in her captor Riden.

And if that doesn't sound like a recipe for a romance I don't know what does. A lot of my problem with this book is regarding the romance. Not only are they violent towards one another, Riden lets his brother take her to hurt and rape her. I don't know how that is suppose to make a good basis for a relationship.

A lot of the moments in the first three quarter are the book are also there to serve for the romance. Riden taking a prisoner in his room is just bloody stupid. Letting a prisoner walk around your ship for multiple nights to see what she is up to is even worse. I'm sorry but in that regard these were a bunch of stupid vanilla pirates. Everything is worked around to fit for the romance and making Alossa seem super great. It is obnoxious in every way.

Lets not talk about the world building because there isn't much there.

The book “Daughter of the Pirate King” by Tricia Levenseller is a Young Adult Fantasy novel which takes place in the world of pirates.

Alosa, Daughter of the Pirate King, is sent on a mission to find part of a hidden map that leads to a legendary treasure. She purposely gets herself captured by her enemies to search their ship.

One thing I found quite enjoyable was the romance in this book. The tension between Riden and Alosa was pretty much noticeable and I enjoyed reading those parts.
Other than that the plot of this book was very flat. Especially in the first half it felt like nothing was really happening at all and it couldn’t grip my attention.

In terms of world building I was hoping for some more details.

The characters were okay. Alosa is a smart, bold woman, which I love to read in books. Riden was alright as well. I like the backstories they both have even if those are quite shallow, but at least something.
There were also a few supporting characters that I did like.

All in all, if it wasn’t for the romance and the few likable characters I probably wouldn’t have enjoyed this book as much. It was worth a read but I’m not sure if im going to read the sequel.

Alosa is the daughter of the Pirate King who rules over the Seas with an iron fist. She goes on a mission for her father and purposely gets herself kidnapped so that she can find a part of an old map that will lead them to the secret isles.
We meet Riden who is young and attractive whilst also being one of Alosas captors . The romance is the book is a slow burn with enemies to lovers.
Alosa is a strong female main character of the story who I felt has grown up and learnt the rules of the world quickly. I absolutely love her banter and remarks throughout the book as well. Throughout her journey I felt that she learnt her worth which is more than being an asset.

I really did enjoy this book. This is a first for me reading a Pirate themed book and it did not disappoint. Whilst I felt the plot was a little predictable at some points I still enjoyed the book. I’m really looking forward to the next book.

I knew this book would be an absolute delight!!! A strong female protagonist who's also a pirate??? YES, PLEASE!!!! That wasn't all, though. I will never ever ever not fall head over heels in love with a good ENEMIES-TO-LOVERS, SLOW-BURN ROMANCE!! I mean come ooon, those are the best damn tropes there in literature. No question. Also, I'm a complete sucker for cool folklore, and I just love love love sirens. Hands down one of the most badass creatures of mythology. I am not surprised Tricia Levenseller took my breath away, she definitely has that power over me and I am flying straight to the second book ASAP.

I absolutely loved this book from start to finish.. However it was not without it's issues. I found the main character annoying at times and not behaving in a way a normal person would. However the action scenes made up for it with some great moments/

Thank you NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book! This is the kind of read that you can easily read on a lazy weekend and lose yourself in. It is a young adult high seas adventure that can be enjoyed by anyone looking for a high stakes fantasy romance that doesn’t compromise the plot. While at times I felt a little too old to be the target audience for this book as its themes and writing style definitely skewed slightly younger, but it was still an enjoyable read. It is also an excellent introduction to the fantasy romance genre for younger readers.

Thanks to Netgalley and publishers for this ecopy.

Daughter of the pirate King was a fantastic pirate story that captured me as soon as I started reading.
The pacing of this novel was steady and the characters brought the story to life.
I loved the world building that the author created.
I really enjoyed this novel and am looking forward to reading the next.

Thank you Netgalley for this ARC.

This is the second time I am reading something by Tricia Levenseller and my opinion is not very different to the first book I read (being "The Shadows between us"): For me personally this is a collection of bad tropes which in combination with the very fanfictionesque writing style are simply not the ingredients for a good book.

The main character is so much "not like other girls" that I had a hard time taking her serious at all. She is of course the very pretty, clever, cunning and deadly daughter of the mightiest pirate and has a plan. A plan that is neither
thought through nor clever: Get captured and be sexy.

Also of course she is part siren and has magical powers which get added to the world whenever the plot needs a device to overcome an obstacle.

The characters are very flat and stereotypical.

Objectively, this is not a good book. But the combination of all these factors turn it out to be rather enjoyable still. So if you want something fun and very easy to read go for it!

I was really excited to read this book and I'm not sure if I'm disappointed now or maybe just confused.

The story definitely had something and given that it was about pirates I was super curious.
However, I was mainly taken aback because of the writing. I felt like I wasn't given the chance to think on my own. Every step, everything Alosa did or was about to do and every thought of hers was handed to me in a very detailed way. Almost too much and too detailed.

Riden was definitely an interesting character and I liked the energy between him and Alosa.
Enwen also seemed like a good one.
I'm excited to see more of Draxen's and Alosa's crew together. I think this might be an interesting pairing.

The plot twist in the last part of the book was alright, though foreseeable. I enjoyed the last, maybe the last two chapters of the book, hence why I'm intrigued to read the second book.
