Amazon Summary

Seventeen-year-old Alosa, daughter of the feared Pirate King, is on a mission. She must retrieve an ancient hidden map, the key to a legendary treasure trove. The catch? Alosa needs to conceal her considerable combat skills and allow herself to be captured by her enemies, giving her the perfect opportunity to search their ship.

More than a match for the ruthless pirate crew, Alosa has only one thing standing between her and the map: her captor, the unexpectedly clever and unfairly attractive first mate, Riden. But luckily, she has a few tricks up her sleeve - and no lone pirate can stop the Daughter of the Pirate King.

My Review

I really loved this story so much so I’ve been able to purchase a copy of Fairyloot’s special edition that looks amazing.

Also is such a fierce and loveable character. I love all her interactions with Riden and their developing romance.

The world building was good and that character development took it to the next level. I can’t wait for the next book in the series and the special editions from Fairyloot

Solid 5 stars

This was a really fun read and thank you for the review copy!

The parallels made for Alosa being the female Jack Sparrow were not exaggerated at all. I loved the sarcasm and sass from Alosa and the slow burn romance that occurs. But I also enjoyed the fact that the romance didn't overpower the rest of the plot. The fast paced, funny right were a joy to read and I found myself finishing the whole book in a single sitting. It gave me everything I was looking for in a pirate-based fantasy novel, ready to dive into the next one. Highly recommend for fans of pirates, heists, slow-burn romance, and a very tough and clever female main character

4.5 🌟
I absolutely loved this! Such a fun quick uncomplicated YA Fantasy read that was really different to others I've read. I couldn't put it down and finished it in a day.

I truly adored the banter between Alosa and Riden, especially the really petty stuff (I don't know why, it just spoke to me). Aloha is such a smart ass and I love how she gets under Riden's skin.

The tension between the two main characters is perfect for YA.

I so desperately want more and cannot wait to read the next one.

Daughter of the Pirate King was such a fun read!! Fast paced with a romantic side plot I finished it in two days. Loved Alosa as a main character. She's confident, fiery, and always had something up her sleeve. Her banter with Riden were some of my favorite parts. I also really enjoyed getting to know more about Alosa's background and understanding why she is the way she is. I have not read a pirate book in a very long time and with how much I enjoyed this book I can't wait to get my hands on book two (won't share the title as it contains a spoiler) and other pirate books!

Thank you NetGalley and Pushkin Press for an E-Arc in exchange for an honest review!

This is a fast paced, action packed fantasy book. The book is written with a light humorous style. Pirates, sirens, treasure, fights, a bit of romance, kidnapping, are all wound into a story that reminded me of Sarah J Maas’ early books. Perfect for YA readers. Alosa is a strong female Pirate Captain, with more skills, power and history than first glance might bring. Can she complete the task her father The Pirate King has set her? Read the book and find out. This is book one in a series, but can be read on its own. But I certainly want to read book two. Thank you to Pushkin Press and NetGalley for the ARC. The views expressed are all mine.

So much potential but fell short, the enemies to lover romance was a tad rushed for me, I mean would you really think oh your good looking if someone had you captive and twas pushing you about no matter if this was planned and things progressed quickly however it was a short book . I loved the siren aspect of it and will read the second book to see where this goes. The main character, Alosa, is a feisty, red-headed, hardened pirate, raised and trained by the Pirate King himself to be fierce and strong with special skills. ( yes he’s the Pirate king so being his daughter doesn’t let her off if he thinks she deserves a punishment or need some brutal training, and even though she is only seventeen and has endured a lot to become whatever her father has pushed her to be, just wanting his approval. So will do anything to get it. Although she does have a softer side especially with her crew.
It is a good book and was an enjoyable read

I don’t quite know how I feel about this book…

The overall story is really good, how could it not when the main character is a a headstrong (female) pirate captain and there’s an enemies-to-lovers trope? There’s a decent plot although it all felt a little staged and expected. I really enjoy when the author manages to throw in some unexpected revelations or plot twists throughout the story and Daughter of the Pirate King kind of lacks that in my opinion. Also, I’m all for a strong and independent female lead but in this case it was almost a little too much. Knowing how powerful the MC is sort of took away the thrill of the action since she was sure to make it out of whatever trouble she got herself into relatively unscathed.

Daughter of the Pirate King wasn’t a disappointing read (which I’m so grateful for) but it won’t make it on my top 10 reads this year (to be honest, I’m not sure it’s gonna qualify for top 20 or even 30 either). It’s not that I didn’t enjoy the read - because I did and I never even considered to DNF it. I guess I just expected a little ‘more’. There was a bit too much telling instead of showing for my taste, especially in the beginning and most of the characters felt a bit flat.

So, to conclude: did I enjoy reading this book? Yes I did! Will I read the sequel? Probably some time but not right away.

Thank you Pushkin Press for providing me with an eArc through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review!

What a read! One bed trope and pirates, you can't go wrong haha. The tension and the vibes were amazing such an easy read that draws you in so fast you can't stop reading. Probably my favourite Pirate book I've read so far!
I'm so excited to read the sequel!

What I most liked about this book was the main character! I really enjoyed how good a pirate she is and all of her skills!
At points I felt the story over simplified things as it repeated the main points (even if I was a young reader I would have likely felt this way), but then there were some great twists and turns coming that soon made up for it!

This book definitely gets 10/10 for enjoyment. It had it all. Everything you could want out of a book and a perfect choice to accompany you in the evening, cosying up with a cup of tea and knowing you have an epic story to sink into. It was absolutely effortless getting into this story and just like the sirens in this tale, it will ensnare you and have you enchanted.

I’ve never read a pirate story before but after reading this one I want to read more! I think I’m definitely invested in this story now and I’m so glad there is another to read. I don’t think I could have handled it if the story ended there and I didn’t get to read more of Alosa’s tale.

As the daughter of a pirate king, she has a difficult task ahead of her. Faced with the challenge of boarding a ship under the guise of imprisonment, she had an important map to find and must resist temptations along the way. Especially a rather handsome Riden who keeps foiling her in the most inconvenient ways…

I was hooked on every page and every word and I felt like I devoured this book in no time. It was so enjoyable, I loved how it was written and I loved the characters too. Literally nothing to fall out with in this book, it was epic.

👑💦 Daughter of the Pirate King by Tricia Levenseller 💦👑

Thank you NetGalley for this Arc!

This year YA does not disappoint at all! Here is another incredible tale of adventure with a strong and witty female protagonist.

Sometimes the characters in YA books can be flat and predictable but Alosa is ingenious, daring and creative with the solutions she comes up with when faced with obstacles. I liked the romance she experiences and her relationship with the secondary characters.

The pacing in this story was great and I loved the hidden twists.

In summary, this is a fun YA story with enough uniqueness and depth to help it stand out from the crowd.

BOOK REVIEW

A BIG thank you to Netgalley and Pushkin Press for the opportunity to read this arc.

This review is spoiler free.

Ok, so I’m not sure why this is an arc unless it’s for this beautiful new cover? Regardless, the chance to read a copy was too much to resist though!

I read Fable and Namesake earlier this year and my taste for a swashbuckling, pirate adventure on the high seas has definitely skyrocketed! I was immediately drawn into this story from the opening line. It was everything I hoped it would be! Intrigue, romance, hidden maps and great characters. There wasn’t a great deal of world building, probably not necessary when the majority of the story is set at sea, but the main character, pirates, banter and fast paced plot line more than made up for it. I’m intrigued by the relationship between Riden and Draxen, I’m convinced there’s something yet to be revealed and I’m going to settle down and read Riden’s chapter later in case that something appears. I will also be adding Daughter of the Siren Queen to my tbr immediately. 4.5/5 stars!

I knew I was going to LOVE this book since page 1.

MAIN CHARACTERS:
I fell in love with Alosa and with Riden right away. The way they are, how they feel and how they act is just... perfect.
- Alosa is so strong and such a good leader. She is firm with her crew but has also a big heart. She is stubborn, clever, charming, firm, strong, selfless and... a little messed up. Just like a hero and leader should be.
- Riden is my new book-boyfriend so back off girls. How can he be so caring and strong after... pretty much everything (like Alosa)?
Tricia Lavenseller, you are awesome and thank you SO much for all these amazing characters.

PLOT
I didn't know a story about pirates could be this good. I love the development of the story and how it's written and described. My favourite tropes that made an appearance where:
- Enemies to lovers
- One bed trope
I thought it was really interesting that in order to get the map she had to infiltrate as a prisoner and that not one of the pirated aboard the ship had a clue (well, except Riden). I just loved every single moment (with an special kind of love for the moment when Alosa and Riden have a sword fight and when they take care of each other :)

QUOTES:
I've found some of my all time favourite quotes in this awesome book. Some of them are:
- "I am me because I choose to be me. I am what I want. Some people say you have to find yourself. Not I. I believe we create ourselves to be what we want."
- "Everyone has something dark in their past. I suppose it's our job to overcome it. And if we can't overcome it, then all we can do is make the most of it."
And many, many more you can check on our web: https://valdkingsistersreviewbooks.webnode.es/daughter-of-the-pirate-king/

To finish just say that Daughter of the Pirate King tops the list of my favourite books and so I wholeheartedly recommend it to EVERYONE. In fact, I've already recommended it to no less than 5 of my friends :)

If you’re looking for a pirate fantasy to sate your needs, this is it! The ultimate pirate fantasy.

This is the first in a duology that promises nothing but action, high stakes, high seas, a dash of romance and a bad ass female lead!

My favourite pirate fantasy and one I’ll always recommend to everyone!

Unfortunately, this book was not for me at all. I did not like the protagonist at all and the story pulls all YA trope registers it can possibly fit into a book. But instead of YA, it reads more of a middlegrade novel.

A thoroughly enjoyable read. Daughter of the Pirate King delivers exactly what it says on the cover: adventure, romance and lots of Pirates of the Caribbean type fun. Alosa’s narrative perspective is well developed and Levenseller has created an authentic personal voice. The banter between Riden and Alosa is quick witted and builds to an appropriate tension for the romance genre. An interesting twist creates another strand which I liked and will be looking forward to the follow up book.
Perhaps geared towards the slightly older teen but a jolly good story.

3.5 stars
Thank you to Netgalley and Pushkin Press for a copy of this ARC. All thoughts are my own.

Initial Thoughts
As someone who enjoys fantasy books set at sea or with pirates, I was intrigued by the synopsis of Daughter of the Pirate King. I liked how adventurous it sounded, and this book plot-wise is fantastic.

What's great about this book?
- I really enjoyed the storyline of this world. The betrayals and the twists and turns were executed well and kept me interested throughout. I enjoyed the lack of morals in some situations and the lengths Alosa went to in search of the map on her captor's ship.
- The world-building is solid. I enjoyed the rich imagery as I read this, and I enjoyed the details both big and small.
- Whilst I found Alosa lacked in character growth and tone, I did enjoy her abilities, and especially as the book progressed, how difficult it was for her to choose between her human and non-human mindset. I enjoyed her using her gifts, and what the consequences were too. Alosa's resilience was one of my favourite things about her, and whilst it was shaped through hardship, watching her get knocked down, only to find another way back to her feet and towards her goals was rewarding as a reader.
- Riden is a great MMC, and I enjoyed his own pirate conduct. He was a great challenge for Alosa, and without him, I think she would have fallen flat as a character. I enjoyed his backstory and how it shaped him into the man he is now.
- The romance subplot was nicely balanced in between the betrayals and adventure at sea. I enjoyed how it progressed and that the banter between Riden and Alosa led to a strong connection that helped them through more perilous moments.
- I enjoyed several side characters and what they offered to this book a great deal. Some I was surprised by, others I was eager to see how their roles would play out. I was satisfied with the outcome for many of the villainous and morally grey side characters too.

Things I didn't quite enjoy
- Overall, I didn't like Alosa's narration. Whilst pirates are known for their boastful ways, Alosa comes across as pretentious more often than not. It's one thing to know you're superior and utilise that in your situation, but the constant reminders of how better she was as a pirate, human (demi), and captain of her ship really grated on my nerves after the first third of the book. Quite often her thoughts went off on an unnecessary tangent, and this deflated her as a leading character for me. Whilst her skills intrigued me, I got tired of her superiority complex (earned or not) very quickly.
- I am conflicted about how I feel about her because I tried to remind myself that Alosa is a pirate and her lack of morals made sense. However, even with understanding what the author was trying to set up, I often found her childishly petulant and much younger in tone for the age represented on page. A younger audience may find no fault with this, but as an adult reader who enjoys YA, this immature voice did bother me.

Final thoughts
Daughter of the Pirate King is an easy read with a good storyline. It frustrates me how the main character's narration represents her, but aside from this, I found the world to be immersive and intriguing. I will be interested in reading the next book in the series to see where this adventure sets sail next.

What a book! Such a fabulous story and cannot wait to read the next one. I would love to find out more about Alosa’s own crew and would definitely be interested to know more about the pirate king! He is very elusive in this book. Love the relationship between Alosa & Riden and can’t wait to see how this continues in the next book.

From the action packed opening pages, I was drawn into this story and wanting to read more. I really struggled to put this book down as I wanted to find out what happened next. If I hadn’t been so busy these last few days I genuinely think I would have binged it all in one sitting.
The main character, Alosa is a pirate on a mission to find a map. There is a lot of talk about how she is this amazing pirate with special abilities yet in the story she just seemed to keep being humbled or put in her place. I’d feel more like she was a great pirate if we were shown that rather than told it, so I am hoping for a bit more action in the sequel.
There are several hints at the start of the book that she’s more than just human and if it wasn’t for the title of the sequel I think this would keep you guessing and wanting to read on to discover what she is so don’t look at the next one if you don’t like spoilers!
There is a love/hate relationship with her love interest, but I do feel like there could have been a bit more tension at the start of the book as it just seemed really obvious that they would end up together.
Overall I really enjoyed this book, I will definitely be reading the sequel soon. I have the fairyloot set preordered (which I think is due October time) and I can’t wait to get my hands on these gorgeous editions!!

I discovered Tricia Levenseller's work through the book Warrior Of The Wild, and I loved it.
Then I moved to Daughter Of The Pirate King and was equally thrilling and wonderful adventure.
True to her writing style, all the characters were distinctive and have their feel.
The world building was perfect and gave a sense that you know vividly every place the journey brings you on their way.
Our lead female character Alosa is fierce, cunning, sharp tongue and equally good skills with the sword and gets under your skin easily.
Her chemistry with Riden is wonderfully developed, and combined with the fact that we saw the story trough both POV's gave us the full spectrum of emotions.
Another incredible book by Tricia Levenseller.
