What a cliffhanger!
I really liked Bennett Mafia, I think it was one of my first approaches to mafia romance so I was all in when I heard Tijan was writing something new for this genre.
This is a spoiler free review cause there is no way I’m going to spoil the angst, the romance, the suspense…
Jess is a parole officer/bartender and Tristain is a hedge fund manager and his uncle wants him to take the family business (aka mafia business) and run it.
This ship has FORBIDDEN written all over it. The obsession Trace begins to have after seeing Jess for the first time was the highlight of the whole book for me (LOVE an obsessed man) and Jess was such a pro at handling him. Their relationship is not ideal but I loved that they kept it going with some push and pull of course😂. And danger is lurking in the shadows, is it going to tear them apart or unite them more? Not gonna answer, you guys have to read it.

trope: Law enforcement (h), Billionaire (H), mafia family, forbidden, lots of suspense

I love Tijans books. I have been a long time reader of this author, but even with our favorites there is always the chance that something may not work for you. And sadly that’s what happened for me with A dirty Business.

Jess and Trace meet at a hockey game and have a moment but neither one knows that one of them is the heir to one of New Yorks mafia families, and the other one is in Law enforcement. Now, I don’t know about you but that sounds like a disaster in the making to me. 😂

The premise of this story really intrigued me but the reason for the three stars is because though I liked the idea I never really connected with the characters the way I prefer. I’m a very character driven reader and if I can’t connect I just feel disconnected from the story as a whole and sadly that’s what happened to me with this one.

Though these two were hot, I personally didn’t feel the connection. Now that is most likely due to not feeling connection with the characters.

Overall A Dirty Business was an okay read for me I just wish that I had been able to connect more.

Oh darn! This one was H.O.T.
It was the first time I've read something by Tijan and let me tell you, it certainly won't be the last.
I really loved the dynamic between the two main characters and their chemistry was off- the charts.
I'm recommending this one with eyes closed!

I really enjoyed this book by Tijan.

I enjoyed the chemistry between Trace and Jess but would have liked a little more spice. 😉 The MC were well developed and I feel in love with the supporting characters as well - hence my need to read book 2 right away (lol).

I've taken to reading several mafia romances lately and this one didn't disappoint. This was well written and I was waiting to see how it would play out. Definitely recommend!

A Dirty Business is a page turner for sure! Between the angst, mafia, and romance it kept me on my toes loving every second. It does have a cliffhanger but man the ride this book takes you on is so good. Trace and Jess's story is full of secrets, heart ache, and so much more. You don't want to miss out! It's an enemies to lovers morally grey mafia romance.

As much as I enjoy Tijan's books, this one missed the mark. Trace and Jess had no dept along with any chemistry. There was no build up to their relationship and the book was honestly drawn out.

As always there were some shocks here, but not enough to make up for the characters and snail's pace.

If you want a good mafia book from Tijan, then pick up Carter Reed.

“It has to stop. My job gives me purpose in life, and you’re eroding that. I can’t change what I’ve already done, but this can’t happen again.”

This is the first book in the Kings of New York series. This book had me invested from beginning to end. This book had me at Mafia & Parole officer. I will read anything this author writes.

The book starts off with Jess & Trace meeting at a hockey game by accident and from the moment Trace see her, he know he wants her even when he sees her badge. Jess is a Parole officer during the week and a bartender at a club on the weekends. Trace works on Wall Street but he also has ties to the head of the West mafia family. Even thought he saw her badge that does stop him from finding out everything about her from where she works to where she goes. He knows he should stay away but there something about her that has him obsessed. Jess also can’t stop thinking about Trace and before she finds out who he is, she knows she should stay away after his reaction to her badge but Jess can’t stop thinking about him. These two have such intense chemistry from the moment they meet to every-time they are in the same room together. They were definitely star-crossed lover that shouldn’t be together but are meant to be together. There is also a lot of push and pull from them throughout the book but it just help them realize more things about themselves. This book has everything suspense, steam, romance, secrets, twist and turns. I love how the characters were written and we learn so much about them including their childhoods and their messed up family dynamics. Tijan built such an intricate new world in this Kings of New York series. I definitely didn’t see that cliffhanger coming.

I can’t wait for the next book.

I would recommend if you like:
🖤Mafia & Law Enforcement
🖤Star-crossed Lovers
🖤Secret Romance
🖤Opposites Attract
🖤Steamy scenes🔥

Thank you ValentinePR for the ARC in exchange for a honest review!!!

Such a great slow burn! The anticipation and their chemistry was absolutely wonderful and I ate up each second of it. The cliffhanger always hurts when the next book isn’t out yet, but I have faith in Tijan to steer me where I need it to go. A great read and would recommend.

I adore Tijan. I also love mafia romances. This one was a tough read though. I just could not get into it. She's a cop, he is a mafia boss, their love is totally forbidden. The premise has everything I enjoy. Jess is not easily scared and Trace is not easily deterred. I think the story felt slow to me, and I didn't expect that from a mafia romance. I might finish this one in the future and I will update my rating if I do. For now, I think I am going walk away.

Oh my gosh, what a ride!

Jess is a parole officer. She's had a hard life, brothers in jail, mothers an alcoholic and her dad is dead.

Trace is... basically mafia. His uncle is the head of the family. And Jess catches his eye at a hockey game. He's interested but then sees her badge.

This book has a lot of twists and turns. And then more twists. I really enjoyed it, Jess kicks butt. Can two people on both sides of the law fall in love?

5 STARS for a Dirty Business by Tijan

This book is part of the Kings of New York series

The last thing that Trace needs is a romantic entanglement with a spitfire of a parole officer. The mafia and the law just don’t mix ! Or do they ?

Loved everything about this story from cover and book blurb , characters and of course a well written storyline.

I received a copy of this book from Netgalley and this is my honest review.

A DIRTY BUSINESS - TIJAN

I will be a hundred percent honest by admitting I couldn't finish this book.
The plot was intriguing and quite honestly I felt it was time for something different from my usual modus operandi. I heard great things about the author, the book's synopsis was interesting and yet...
I read maybe 20% of the ARC, but the writing style, the choppiness, and jumping around the plot was not really my taste.
As this was an advanced copy, I did not put my review online. I'm sure it was me being extra prickly about a different sub-genre in romance.

A 5 star book all the way.... Wow just wow... I didn't want to put it down until I finished it all... Between an alpha male who is a wall street man who has ties to the mafia and Jess who is an independent woman who is a porole officer who also works as a bartender... It's one twist after another

I have never read the mafia romance trope, so I didn't know what to expect.

Surprising, I really did enjoy this read. It was different compared to what I normally would ready, but still had a little bit of spice in it.

I did enjoy the main male character, Trace. For being in the mafia, he was sweet & caring to Jess and thought about her in the decisions he made.

Then, Jess, she was a badass who didn't take shit from anyone which is always great to see in a leading female role. Overall it was an enjoyable read for me. I am still surprised by the ending and hoping I know more in book 2, so definitely reading that!

Talk about walking a fine line between doing the right thing and the wrong thing. When a parol officer and a future mob boss have undeniable chemistry….nothing good can truly come from this situation. It’s bad enough that Jess has her own brand of dysfunctional family issues. Between her brother being in jail for killing their father and her mother being an angry alcoholic she definitely has her hands filled. Add on her multiple jobs and her hobby she has her hands full. Then we have Trace who’s family wants him to take over the families mob business….when they are not double crossing him and sabotaging everything left and right. There is a leak and they don’t know who it is, so right now it’s dangerous for everyone. We don’t know who we can truly trust. I am enjoying this book, I really Like Jess and Trace together and it’s intense watching them navigate the fine line between their two worlds. They share a connection and have crazy chemistry put can they navigate a real relationship out of this hot mess? The cliff hanger had me gasping! I need To get my hands on the next book as soon as possible!

𝗧𝗶𝘁𝗹𝗲: A Dirty Business
𝗦𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀: Kings of New York #1
𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿: Tijan
𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: ☆☆☆☆☆ 5/5

Another Tijan book that had me hooked from beginning till the end. Once I got into the story there was just no way I wasn't going to not finish it the same day. The thing what I might have loved the most was that when you think you know everything... you are so so mistaken. Didn't see a lot of the plot twists coming which was super exciting. The characters had great chemistry and I loved how well they fit together. The fmc is strong and is not afraid to voice her own opinion. The mmc was dreamy and easy to fall in love with. The secondary characters were fleshed out really well... the story ends on a cliffhanger that makes me want to read the next book like yesterday!!

The first book in the new mafia series Kings of New York had me hooked from the start. I liked the premise of the storyline where the two main characters are on opposite sides of the law. Finally we get a female lead who is confident streetwise and doesn't need a man to save her. I liked that we get to see Trace fall hard and fast and how quickly Jess becomes everything to him. They dance around each other and the attraction between them and I was willing them to just give in and get on with it 😉 I enjoyed the mix of the danger, romance and relationships. You feel like you really know the characters and what makes them tick. I loved how they protected each other and grew stronger over the course of the book. There is a varied group of secondary characters that aren't just bystanders they all have a part to play as it is not just their story. Another great story from Tijan that had enough danger and intrigue to keep me guessing and reading. With a shock heartbreaking ending that opens up all kinds of possibilities for the next book which hopefully isn't too far away.
