This book takes us through three perspectives of one day- a woman and the two people she is pulled between regularly- her husband and her best friend, who do not like each other and see the other as being a terrible influence on the central woman in this triangle.

The three perspectives reveal hidden details- trickery, hurt feelings and malice, and how they all are holding on to images and beliefs that may have changed with time.

Overall, I found it a quick and enjoyable read, but I feel like I wanted a bit more- either further development of the characters' lives and motives (the shortness of the book sometimes left them feeling a bit underdeveloped to me) or expanding the concept further to explore what other blind spots they may have had.

It was still a fun read, but I felt as if the good concept was under-served.

I received an advance copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

There are 3 people in this marriage.: husband, wife and her best friend, who believes her friend is not happy and is surprised to find out they are trying for a baby.

The story is narrated through each character's point of view., only one name is revealed and the characters are not very likeable.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC.

I was quite disappointed by this book. I thought the premise looked really interesting - to see a set of events from three different perspectives. But in the end there wasn't much dramatic tension and there was absolutely no closure - I was genuinely shocked at where the story ended! I liked what the author was trying to do but don't think they managed to achieve it.

I've been looking forward to this one since it was announced - and it did not disappoint! Brilliant premise, even better execution. I loved it.

I was interested in this book, but I had a hard time getting into it. The story takes place in one day and is told from three perspectives: the wife, the husband, and Temi. I didn't like that the wife and husband didn't have names. The writing was good, and there were some funny parts, but I didn't enjoy the book overall. I got a free e-copy of this book from Random House UK and NetGallery in exchange for an honest review. Thank you.

A short book with three sections, each narrated in turn by the three characters in the book. Seemingly simple but stayed with me afterwards. I wonder if the order of the sections could have been made more powerful.

Three people - two best friends and one husband, and three is a crowd. When a husband and wife clash over the wife's best friend Temi and her behaviour, relationships come crashing down all in one night.

This book is fast-paced and feels a little bit like watching a car crash as you follow three people, some of whom are not very nice - one of which is awful - drag each other down and kick each other while down there. This is told in three different POVs - the wife, the husband and then the best friend Temi and each story is slightly different, and we really see each character from different perspectives and how their behaviour is interpreted by each other.#

The book is very much about an extremely controlling, toxic friendship between the wife and Temi - so bad that the wife definitely doesn't even realise how controlled and manipulated she is by her friend. It was really shocking switching from the wife's POV to the husband, and seeing the relationship from his POV and things that had happened. I didn't think I would but I genuinely felt so sorry for the husband at how he was treated in his own house by Temi. I found it frustrating and hard to understand at times, as I could never imagine a friend treating my partner that way but nor would I ever allow it to happen as it's so disrespectful on many levels.

Because of some personal experiences in my own life with toxic friendship, I found parts of this book quite hard - Temi's obsession with her friend and to control her even in her adult life, and her strange fixation on plans they made as teenagers around marriage and children, and how apparently this needed to stay the same into adulthood.

There's a couple of hared moments in this in regards to gaslighting as well but I also think this book is good at showing that gaslighting can come from different sources - not just a romantic or sexual relationship.

I didn't really find this book a nice or satisfactory book to read. It's actually quite depressing and leaves off at an abrupt point in the story with no resolution or peace of mind for the reader.

This was an interesting concept and a book I wanted to love, but I just couldn’t get invested. The characters all felt unlikeable and difficult to root for.

Three of Us follows a wife, husband and the wife’s best friend Temi over the course of one day as Temi visits the couple.
Temi hates the husband and thinks her friend should be footloose and that he is holding her back.
While the husband finds Temi rude and interfering .
You have to decide as the reader which team you’re rooting for.
A fun quick read, that requires the reader’s participation.
Perfect quick choice for a reading group - who would you vote for ?
Thanks @oreagbajewilliams @penguinukbooks & @netgalley for the eARC

I demolished this book in one sitting.

A tale of toxic relationships, Agbaje-Williams tells a tale that takes you in and doesn't let you go.

I love that it's written the way that it is, the little devlish details throughout grip you, it feels like you're watching something that you shouldn't but you can't look away.

Agabje-Williams is definitely one to watch.

The Three of us

The blurb of this one intrigued me and I was excited to read it. Unfortunately I really struggled to get into it. Taking place over one day told from the perspective of the three characters, Temi, the wife and the husband I didn't like that the wife and the husband remained nameless without giving them a name and felt like they were unimportant.
The style of writing was good and there was some definite humor in this on but ultimately it wasn't for me.

I really struggled to get into this book, I found the characters hard to read.

The writing is descriptive enough for me to visualise and ‘be there’ but the opening chapters just didn’t grab my attention.

This book is unlike any other I have read. its a relatively short book- less than 200 pages - and set over one day. The unnamed married couple and their friend Temi are the main characters and is based round a day drinking wine and catching up with friends. Told over 3 parts from each characters points of view we build a picture of their past, present and future. They say 3 is a crowd and that sure rings true here. The husband and friend really dislike each other and seem to be playing a game to garner control over the wife. Interesting look at the Nigerian backgrounds. I also found the book to be really funny and relevant.

An excellent read. Was absolutely gripped. A fab book exploring the ideas of secrets, doubts and honesty. When is trusting your best friend too much?

This is a really clever book set over the course of one day focusing on a husband, wife and her best friend. The novel is divided into three parts, each character taking a turn at the narrative. I loved the way the narratives dance between intimacy and distance and trust and betrayal. As the alcohol intake builds so does the tension, reaching a destructive conclusion leaving the reader wondering about the survival of any of the relationships. I really enjoyed this novel and found the themes of friendship, marriage, familial expectations and identity really thought-provoking.

I really enjoyed this. Such an interesting way to tell the stories from the points of view of three people this way. The three people are My Wife, My Husband and My Best Friend/Her Best Friend. The husband and the best friend despise one another. It's a short read and takes place over the of one day. It was really entertaining and refreshing.

Read it all in one go and really enjoyed it! I was a fan of the story but less of the characters which is why I think I ended up enjoying it even more.

2.75/ 5⭐️

Now I am completely here for the moment that is a black love story (extra points if they are British too!) but when I saw that the focus of this book also centred around a wife’s best friend, I was super excited! I wanted to see if the author would be able to encapsulate and present the wonder that is black sisterhood. However I wouldn’t say this story exhibited that. Instead it showed a warped love triangle between a husband, his wife, and his wife’s beat friend tarnished by jealousy, possessiveness and selfishness.

The wife in this story was someone that I didn’t relate to at all. Instead of seeing a strong black female, I saw someone who couldn’t stand up for what she wanted or believed for fear of rocking the boat, and unwittingly transformed into 2 versions of herself to please either her friend, or her husband. On the other hand though, maybe this is what the author wanted to demonstrate. I don’t think we ever learnt the name of the wife in this book so by not even naming her, she is completely overlooked by her best friend and husband who instead imposes their own narrative onto her. They only see her (and refer to her as) ‘wife’ or ‘best friend’ but not for the complex person she is. That being said I don’t think her husband was named either so maybe the emphasis is on Temi, the wife’s best friend, overpowering everyone else in the novel.

If I’m honest, I found it very strange that the speech in this book wasn’t actually written in speech marks and was instead relayed by the narrator. I don’t really know what the author was trying to achieve there, but it made me feel a bit uncomfortable and confused about which character was speaking. The ending (if you could call it that) was not enjoyable as it was extremely abrupt, however, there were moments of fantastic writing in there which demonstrates that this author has great potential. I thought the POVs of each character was interesting but wasn’t used enough to demonstrate character development.

Unfortunately, this book wasn’t for me.

Proving the point that a) love stories can be super smart, b) the truth always lies somewhere between YOUR opinion & THEIRS, c) you don’t have to like characters at all to enjoy the tale of their lives, and d) a story can span just one day and still be epic! Loved the three perspectives, loved the three parts, loved the complex simplicity of the story.

This quick and intriguing read jumps right into the middle of the story without much buildup. The characters are identified by name, except for Temi, who takes center stage. The book is divided into three sections, with the main events unfolding on a single day. While the repetitive nature of the storyline can be tiresome, the unhealthy friendship between the wife and Temi provides some entertainment. However, the book lacks depth and character development. The husband and Temi's constant bickering, which intensifies throughout, becomes the most engaging aspect. The wife's lack of action in setting boundaries is frustrating. By the end, both the husband and the reader dislike Temi. Though the premise is wild, the book falls short of a 5-star rating. Despite its flaws, it's worth reading, but don't expect a resolute ending. If there's a sequel, it might be worth checking out. Overall, an entertaining but not highly recommended book.
