This book gripped me from the word go. It starts off entertaining and proceeds the whole way through. It has twists and turns that I didn’t see coming. After I finished this book, I needed some time to fully digest what I thought to it. Reason being, I thought it was going to continue throughout with the lighter vibe it starts with, however, it does change and proceeds to get a little darker, which with the title does make sense. I’m not so used to reading darker storylines. For those who are, this would be an easier one I’m sure. So if you’re wanting to try out these types of books, it’s a fantastic book to start with.

Clearly Kitty has issues with men and she plays them out in a very dark way. It starts as an accident and moves on from there. Kitty has been deeply hurt in her past and has a sarcastic charm. Kitty has a superficial & pretentious air about her with social media and influencer vibes and can be quite cynical, which adds to her character.

She comes across as being quite a bitter woman and has a very low opinion of men who she deems mistreats or disrespects women, which she plays out in ways that are seen as unacceptable, inappropriate and dysfunctional with her actions. She’s killing to serve a purpose, she believes she’s clearing the world for the better.

I enjoyed the book and would be thinking about it when I wasn’t reading, so that’s got to be a good sign. Thanks to NetGalley for allowing me to read this book for an honest review.

A female version of Dexter and American Psycho!

This is a satirical tale of getting back at men for all the atrocious things they do to women. I absolutely loved the premise of the book. However, the character execution could have been better. It is definitely a page-turner that is gut-wrenching and hilarious at the same time!

Kitty Collins is a vegan Instagram star with shitloads of inheritance money from her ancestor's meat processing business (ironic, right?). She has the perfect Instagram worthy life with cool friends who love to party. However, Kitty harbors a secret that none of her friends know except for a creepy stalker. Whenever Kitty sees or hears about men doing wrong by women, she is engulfed by rage and disgusts and does the only thing she can. Kill them and get away with it!

Kitty Collins kills men. Men who rape. Men who abuse. Men who gaslight. Men who are pedophiles. She is a vigilante for women. As her killing spree continues, she meets and falls in love with Charlie. Her life is beautiful but the only problem is the stalker who knows what she does! Will the stalker reveal her secret? What does the stalker want? And most importantly, who is this damn stalker? Read to find out.

I'll give it 4 stars because it had more potential!

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for giving me this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Terrible and wonderful all at the same time. Shocking but rivetting. This is definitely a book that I should have but I love it. The best type of book naughty (who has not thought of killing their husband ?... Surely not just me ? ). But this thankfully is fiction and the humour makes all the difference. Update - husband still alive after more than 40 years, for now .....

Many thanks to NetGalley and HQ for gifting me a digital ARC of this debut novel by Katy Brent - 5 stars!

Kitty Collins is a top Instagram influencer, from a wealthy family who owns a meat packing conglomerate. But Kitty has a secret, even from her circle of friends - she sees red when she sees men mistreating women and does something about it! And knows how to get away with it! Except for that one stalker who seems to know her every move.

I absolutely loved this very dark humor tale of a woman getting back at those men who seem to feel it's their right to do whatever they want to women. I couldn't put it down and Kitty's character was a hoot. But there's lots of mystery there too - what happened to Kitty's first love? And can her new boyfriend, Charles, be trusted? Just who is stalking her? Definite female Dexter vibes confronting the #MeToo movement. What a fabulous debut - can't wait to read more from this author!

How To Kill Men And Get Away With It by Katy Brent is like a twisted thriller version of an episode of 'Friends'.

Kitty Collins is the vegan heiress of one of the biggest meat companies in the world and the millions that come with it. She also built herself an Instagram community that adores her to the point of no return. However not all things that shine are made of gold. Something that none of her loyal followers know, is that Kitty the vegan has a thing for slandering guys who did her or other women wrong. Not even her closest friends have a clue about what is going on when Kitty is alone, but one person just might. Cause what you don't know is that Kitty has a stalker and whoever that stalker is, he or she seems to know a lot more than they should.

This book got a solid 3.5 out of 5 stars from me. I really liked the idea behind the story and when I first read the description, I was super excited to dive in. And don't get me wrong it's nowhere near a bad book, however it just wasn't my favorite. My law student, criminology loving heart just couldn't find a way to really sympathizes with Kitty. I had a hard time connecting with her and her reasons as to why she does what she does. I think it would have been easier if she was just plain horrible and I could hate her. However, she wasn't a bad person in a large chunk of the book and therefore I just could not not like her. As a vegetarian myself I quite obviously like the animal loving side of her. And I mean to be fair she had a few really good ideas on how to dispose of the bodies. The rollerblade and coat scene was just pure genius level.

You might be confused because of my 'Friends' comparison at the beginning. A huge part of the story is Kitty's relationship with her friends and their meet ups to get a drink. To be fair they 99% of the time get alcohol instead of coffee, but hey who's to judge.

There is a pretty drastic plot twist towards the end as well, and I didn't really see that one coming. I expected something to happen of that sort, but I definitely didn't see it coming to that extent.

As for all the people that are a little sensitive when it comes to some of the grueling scenes, here are a few trigger warnings: mentions of rape, murder, mutilation, cruelty towards animals and stalking. But let's be honest you probably already guessed most of those if you have even read a single paragraph of my review or even the title of the book.

Hope this review was somewhat helpful!!!

At first the title and the synopsis caught my attention, it had an intriguing premise. However, the execution is not what I expected.
Make sure to read the trigger warnings about this book before reading this dark humor thriller book.
⚠️ TW: Rape, gore, sexual abuse, miscarriage, lots of violence

The plot is actually interesting, it has Finlay Donovan vibes with the humor element in a thriller book.
The short chapters and fast pacing is also what keeps me interested and read it till the end. The way she always got away with murder is actually surprising.

The author also included lots of serious topics inside, like how social media affects our lives, violence against women and the power of women when they fight back.

The characters though is not so likeable, I had a hard time connecting with any of them.
There's a lot of great topics to be explored but there's just too many that eventually the plot felt all over the place.

Overall, for a debut novel it was an okay read. The plot idea is brilliant but it still needs more development. I think I'll give this author a try if there's another book coming out in the future.

I received an advanced review copy for free from Netgalley, HQ and Katy Brent. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

thank you netgalley and hqstories for the arc of this book.I was very intrigued with the title and the synopsis of this book but i felt that the overall plot wasn't executed very well. Also felt that the writing style maybe was not for me .i couldn't bring myself to like or care about the mc of this book and every characters felt very one dimensional

TW alcohol, drugs, physical and sexual assault.

I was really intrigued by the title and the summary of this book and was excited to start reading.

Having now finished it, I really have mixed feelings on how much I enjoyed it. I’m not sure if it’s just the characters that are frustrating. The main character Kitty could be quite amusing at times but more often she is inconsistent which is confusing.

This was a story that I expected to be unrealistic at times but surely it is highly unlikely she wouldn’t be questioned by police sooner. She was communicating with her victims by apps and driving around with them in her car.

Overall it was still a quick easy read.

Thank you to #NetGalley and #HQStories for a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

How to Kill Men and Get Away With It follows the story of Kitty Collins, a young woman living in Chelsea, who finds herself on a murderous (with purpose) spree after a man who follows her home and threatens her dies by falling on his own broken wine bottle. From this incident, Kitty sees a way of ridding the world of men who threaten women. And she's rather good at it.

I have to admit that it was the title that intrigued me. It's provocative, to be sure, but I was gearing myself up for some satire and dark humor in this book. I'm not quite sure I saw that here, but the story's not so bad. It's not the heaviest of thrillers, and if such a term exists, this could even be considered a cozy thriller. Kitty's a solid main character, even if she makes some questionable choices at times. Her intentions are pretty straightforward, and though we're not supposed to root for killers, Kitty's actions make you rethink that.

This had the potential to be a five-star read for me, but the resolution of one of the main plot points here wasn't very interesting to me, and I wasn't sold on the love interest.

I'd still recommend this book though, but would strongly advise looking up trigger warnings prior to picking up the book.

I give this 4 stars.

Thank you, Netgalley and HQ for this arc!

This is one wacky ride. The main character, Kitty Collins- wealthy social media influencer (boy, I dislike that job) becomes an inadvertent killer which morphs her into an actual serial killer.

Kitty is sarcastic, sardonic, and lusty for blood! Every man she interacted with put me on proverbial pins and needles as I waited to see if they were going to be roofied and date murdered.

Kitty happens to be an heiress to a “meat” fortune and her late night visits to the slaughterhouse will have you thinking twice before you down your next bratwurst. FYI- Kitty’s a vegan.

She ultimately makes a major murder mistake and is thrown off her game, but by the book’s ending- I have a pretty good inclination that she’s not done killin’. It was honestly awesome to have a WOMAN have the upper hand as we are generally the ones looking over our shoulder and hoping we don’t end up chained in someone’s basement.

I’d like to thank NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for this advance reader copy. All the opinions stated here are my own.

I wanted to love this one and based on the blurb and plot I should have. First off thank you to the publishers for the ARC copy. My real issue with this book is the main character Kit. Her motivations seemed all over the place and very inconsistent. She made massive amounts of money and had no issue using it with Instagram but constantly complained about her chosen career. She had a violent stalker but didn’t do anything about them till near the end of the book. I also thought this would be a lot more fun than it was. Overall this one didn’t work for me.

twisted and fun, this is a great book that hooked me from the very beginning.

thank you netgalley + the publisher for this arc!

i feel the cover of this is kinda misleading😭 i went into this thinking it was going to be lighthearted or something based on the cartoony cover but it was the complete opposite (in a good way). this is more like american psycho, except the main character is actually likable. the only thing i didn't really like was quick it moved past some plot points aka the way there was so much buildup for some parts (talking abt the adam part here + the dad) but then the actual scenes where they appear/info is revealed last like 2 paragraphs.

also, i don't know if there's a list of trigger warnings for this book anywhere, but you should definitely be careful reading this if you're sensitive to gore and sexual assault

TW: sexual assault

Kitty Collins is a vegan Instagram influencer with a secret hobby - murder. Targeting only the scummiest of men, she takes to Tinder and the news to find targets. Can she keep it up? Will her stalker out her?

This book had me laughing and cringing along as Kitty singlehandedly took on the worst of the men in London vigilante style. A murder turned romance that you won’t be able to put down.

Thanks to NetGalley and HQ for the ARC in exchange for a fair review.

I really wanted to like this. Loved the cover and the plot sounded great. But thought the the writing fell flat and characters didn't have any depth. It felt choppy and didn't really flow.

My thanks to HQ Digital for an eARC via NetGalley of ‘How to Kill Men and Get Away With It’ by Katy Brent.

Being a lover of crime fiction, how could I resist a novel with such a title? This extremely dark revenge comedy-drama is award winning journalist Katy Brent’s debut.

Kitty Collins is a child of privilege, living in a posh Chelsea flat. She is an Instagram Influencer with millions of followers who takes great care in curating her image. She is also on a killing spree, though as she explains it - she tripped into the role.

One night on her way home from a nightclub she was followed by a man who had been pestering her at the club. When he escalated to assault, she pushes him away and he stumbles and falls onto a broken wine bottle. Oops.

Now she can’t seem to stop as she has acquired a taste for revenge though has strict rules about her targets that she names Kitty’s Code. One rule she admits that she stole directly from ‘Dexter’, “7. Killing must serve a purpose or it’s just plain murder.”

Kitty, named for the femme fatale in the 1946 film noir, ‘The Killers’, was a delightfully unreliable narrator. In her Letter to Readers, Katy Brent also references Patrick Bateman, so clearly knows her literary serial killers.

There were a few times when I had to suspend my disbelief with respect to Kitty’s disposal techniques. Yet, I was rooting for her to fulfil Rule 6: don’t get caught.

Overall, a tongue-in-cheek revenge comedy-drama that was definitely over-the-top and so very entertaining.

“Killing must serve a purpose or it’s just plain murder. Okay, I stole that one directly from Dexter, but it’s still pertinent”

I was so pleasantly surprised by this book! With reminiscence of Finlay Donovan, My Lovely Wife, Dexter, etc., I knew I would like this one after the start.

Kitty Collins is a vegan, influencer, aaaand now serial killer. After walking home one night and getting followed home by a guy who felt he deserved something in exchange for buying her drinks (classic), he accidentally ends up dead and it all begins for Kitty (well, sort of). Kitty has a past that has influenced her heavily and it was so interesting to get all that background little by little.

You have to suspend a little disbelief for this one but I didn’t see the end coming at all! The only change I would make is the amount of times her veganism was pushed, felt like I was trying to be sold on the ideals of it.

I feel like I need to get my hands on a physical copy when released!!

📚Read this if you like:
⁃ Dexter
⁃ My Lovely Wife
⁃ Finlay Donovan
⁃ Promising Young Woman

My ratings:
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨
🌶️.5

Trigger Warning: This book does contain alcohol, drugs, physical abuse and Sexual Assault

This book was really funny, it had a lot of great pop cultural references and the plot of the story was SO GOOD. I did not see the ending coming and it had me on the edge of my seat at times! Every time Kitty would kill, I was so scared she was going to get caught. I kept thinking I knew who the stalker was but was so surprised in the end. And the ending WAS SO GOOD!

I really hope there's another book after this one! This was my first book I read from Katy Brent and it won't be my last!

Thank you to NetGalley and HQ Digital for an arc of this book!

I got about 20% into this but I decided to DNF it. The title and the concept sounded really great and like it had a lot of potential but unfortunately it didn't work for me. It might get better as it goes on but it didn't grip me enough to want to continue and I'd rather spend my time reading something that I enjoy.

I found the main character, Kitty, extremely annoying and did not care for her at all. I only read until the first 'intentional' killing but I thought it was extremely ridiculous. I don't know maybe the killings are more 'justifiable' later on, but this was just over the top. Kitty was acting crazy and not in a good way.

As I didn't read the whole book I'm going to give this a 3 star reading.

Made in Chelsea on crack - a millennial revenge thriller with an unlikely heroine.

I raced through this humour-laden murderous romp over the space of a couple of evenings.
While reading I was reminded of Made in Chelsea crossed with true crime and while I’m not a fan of the reality show (I actively love to hate it and all its regional siblings) I wasn’t surprised to read the author notes at the end saying she was inspired by the show and thinking about what would happen if the girls got their revenge on the cheating boys.

When I read the first look on Readers First I was hooked by the dark comedy of it all and I was lucky enough to grab an early arc from Netgalley.

It’s a really quick read which lovers of How to Kill your Family and The Girls I’ve Been will definitely enjoy.

Protagonist Kitty Collins is a kind of anti hero, a meat industry heiress turned vegan social media influencer, a Chelsea girl through and through.

When one too many of her friends and fellow women are wronged by men, she decides to take matters into her own hands (literally) 💉🔪🪓 ☠️

Everything in this book is taken to the extreme, with highly charged humour, and I think that’s just the kind of read I needed as it was pure escapism.
Murderous thoughts might cross the mind of any millennial who spends about five minutes on Tinder, but no one would ever act on these urges… no one except Kitty Collins!

It’s wonderfully out of touch with reality… but it could JUST be true.

The ebook of How To Kill Men and Get Away With It is out now!
