Felicity George’s second novel A Courtesan’s Worth is a seductive and beguiling Regency tale romantics everywhere will swoon over!

As the most sought-after courtesan in London, Kitty Preece has men falling at her feet on a daily basis. However, lately she has been finding it increasingly difficult to attract the attentions of wealthy gentlemen – mainly because the Duke of Gillingham is scaring away every single man who dares look her way. Kitty is absolutely desperate to find somebody suitable – could her friend Reverend Sidney Wakefield help her out in her hour of need?

Despite the world of difference between their two professions, Kitty and Sidney are the best of friends. Sidney might have been reluctantly compelled to dedicate his life to the church, but he loves nothing more than putting pen to paper and Kitty has been a most useful muse who has inspired him greatly in his writings. Hearing of her current predicament due to the nefarious duke, Sidney vows to help her out – even if assisting her might come at too high a price for him. But with losing Kitty being simply unbearable, Sidney is determined to move mountains for her.

As their feelings for one another intensify, dare Sidney hope for a future with the only woman he has ever loved? Or is this mésalliance simply not meant to be?

Felicity George’s A Courtesan’s Worth is a wonderful Regency romance that is smart, sexy, decadent and immensely enjoyable. Felicity George’s Regency world is beautifully drawn, colourfully rendered and filled with larger-than-life characters readers will love spending time with.

A Courtesan’s Worth is a spellbinding friends-to-lovers Regency romance written with style and panache that is full of wit, intensity and passion that has made me eager to read more enthralling historical romances by Felicity George.

I had to DNF this one unfortunately, I found that the writing was just not for me. Plus that and the 8 (?) Year old speaking like a wise old man was not something I enjoyed.
Although I enjoyed it until that point!
Thanks for giving me a chance with this book however I can't continue.

Actual rating: 3.5/5

I love a Regency setting, even though I don't often read purely romantic books that don't involve magic or fantastical elements of some kind, so A Lady's Risk was a nice change from my usual reads!

The setting was close to perfection, so much so that I felt completely pulled in just as if I'd been watching an episode of Bridgerton. The level of historical detail included was great and, even though I'm no expert, it all felt incredibly accurate: the author did a great job in researching it and in bringing it all to life in a way that felt natural and light! I also enjoyed the idea of Margaret's late brother pushing his rake friend and his sister to work together, acting as joint guardians to the younger siblings. I was certain this would stir up a lot, and it most certainly did! There was a fair bit of drama as Meggy and Nicky had to learn to work together, but their relationship with the younger children was so loving and beautiful it was a real pleasure to read about it. I also really liked Nicky's relationship with his sister, and I was really keen to know more about her and her husband!

The main characters were probably the ones I had most issues with, actually. I found both of them so incredibly frustrating, especially since a lot of their issues were caused by not talking openly to each other. They behave rather unconventionally towards each other throughout the book (which I really liked!), so I couldn't even write it off as historical context. Lack of communication is one of my least favourite tropes, and I almost instantly grow annoyed when it happens... this is clearly a "me issue" though, so don't let that put you off from the book if it's not an issue for you!

Aside from that, I did like Nicky's character growth: he starts out as definitely unlikeable but works hard to improve himself and mostly does so. I also liked that he showed his vulnerability and learned to be honest and open with his family and friends, as well as with himself. Meggy I liked a lot less in comparison. She actually started out strongest for me between the two, but she quickly became a very frustrating character to read about and a lot of her inner monologue was quite repetitive. I also would have liked her to experience a more organic growth, as Nicky did, rather than just having a sort of final epiphany, but I did enjoy the ending regardless. That being said, I did like Meggy's strength of character and the way she's willing to fight for the life she wants while being conscious of the limitations society places on her as a woman.

Overall this is a well-written, enjoyable book with lots of funny moments, a delightful historical setting and some steamy scenes too! Definitely a great debut and a new author to watch out for in the future.

A book that stands out from the crowd. The characters and the setting are written exceptionally well. If you enjoy romance books I suggest you try this one!

I received an Advance Reader Copy from the publisher. This in no way impacted on my view.

When Lady Margaret learns that her older half brother has died, she expects that she and her siblings, Henry and Sophia, will be even more down on their luck. Used to Edwin ignoring them, she never expected he would leave the family in the care of a known rake, and the title basically destitute. So when Nicholas Burton, Marquess of Holbrook, arrives, and has ideas about how Henry should be reared before he reaches his majority, and about Lady Margaret marrying, he has another thing coming. Meggy and Nicholas butt heads again and again, but as they grew more comfortable with each other, and realise that they have more in common than they might expect, sparks fly, and soon Meggy is risking it all.

I loved the concept of this book, and felt like it was executed so well. Meggy and Nicholas' every scene together were fantastic, and they grew so much. Nicholas, as a Marquess, had a lot of pressure on his plate, and hated the fact he made a deathbed promise to Edwin to care for his siblings. He expected to turn up and see an unattractive woman and two hellions, so meeting Margaret, Henry, and Sophia was a shock. He's drawn to Meggy like he's never been before, and though she tries to deny it, she feels the same. This book is 400 pages, and a lot happens, but it never felt like a chore to read. I just devoured it, page after page, and seeing the feelings blossom and bloom, and Nicholas feel envy and jealousy over Meggy getting the attention she rightly deserved was hilarious. A great start to a new series.

A Lady's Risk is the story of Margaret and Nicholas, who are joint guardians of Margaret's younger sister and brother - the new earl. The two share an instant attraction but with both of them battling their inner demons, they end up on a path of a slow burn romance where they often misunderstand each other and butt heads.

I found Margaret to be difficult at times but I could see why she kept returning to the same point with Nicholas, who is full of inner turmoil. The secondary characters in this book were all very entertaining. This was an enjoyable novel and I look forward to reading more from Felicity George.

A lovely story which involves a guardian and his charges. A real regency romance which was a delight to read.

I'm super new to regency romances having only read Bridgerton. If you enjoyed that, you'll love this. The characters are wonderful, the flow is great and it has just the right amount of spice to keep you guessing. Fantastic book and I'll be looking to read more of Felicity's books

Lady Margaret became a mother to her young siblings upon Edwin's death, she also learns he has left them destitute and, worst of all, at the mercy of a notorious and cruel rake.

Lord Nicholas would much rather be pursing women for quick sport rather than taking care of a headstrong debutante without any prospects, as well as her siblings. But Edwin saved his life once, and now he owes him a debt. Fortunately, all he has to do is find Meggy a husband, and his debt will be paid. The problem is that Meggy is unlike any women he has ever met, and he drawn to her from first meeting. He tries to warn her not to trust him, and as they get closer Meggy fights as hard as she cannot fall under his spell, but love won't give up. I really enjoyed this story, but I have to say I cheered for Nick, and I yelled for Meggy to wake up. This is my honest opinion, for I got an advanced copy from NetGalley.

This is a thoroughly engaging romp about a woman who’s had to grow up and take on responsibilities far too young, and a man who’s suffered difficulties his whole life, which had shaped his perception of himself, and how they fight their attraction to each other. It was realistic with the misunderstandings and in their imperfections, but it was nice to see the growth in each of them. There are graphic sex scenes in this book, however there were only 2, though it was referenced in other parts, so didn’t feel like that was the main theme. All in all I’d say it has a good storyline, and if you want to skip the sex scenes, it’s possible to do so without missing any of the storyline
