Thank you for the ARC!! The writing, in 3rd pov, was nice, although I didn't appreciate very much how the author made it obvious/described constantly how attracted the main characters were to each other. The idea was creative, even if I found it a bit awkward here and there (maybe that was the charm).

Kathryn Freeman’s style was funny and wrote just the book I did not know I needed. This book was a melding experience of beloved romcom movies and a book with just the right about of formula without being too trite. Good character development and lovable side characters.

I found this was a 1 out of 5 spice…. Closed door, but the window is cracked (that sounds like a voyeur metaphor). I give this book 5/5 because it made me laugh, escape and love all the characters.

Thanks for the eARC read through NetGalley.

When Harry, a guy who doesn't believe in love, finds out that his girlfriend has been cheating on him with her boss, he is in search of a temporary place to stay whilst the ex refuses to move out. Enter Sally, a rom-com lover, who has a spare room and needs the extra money.

I liked them recreating the iconic rom-com scenes. I've always been a fan of rom-com movies so it was very fun to read them putting their own spin on scenes any rom-com lover knows. From the Dirty Dancing lift to Pretty Woman and Never Been Kissed, there are so many iconic movie references. Although I usually despise references in books, it didn't bother me as much because they're there for a reason. The only references I truly hated in this were the movie After (no please) and Tiktok. For some reason saying that it's on TikTok gave me the ick.

The plot was predictable, which most rom-coms are. I understand we're trying to emulate every rom-com to exist but ugh. Their romance was ok. Their tension was great and the smut was fun, but I didn't believe they actually loved each other.

As for the characters, Sally was kind of annoying at times. The fact she couldn't tell that what Harry did was a form of love pissed me off. Especially since a lot of rom-com movies have this, so she should've known. Harry was my favourite, even though he wasn't a new book boyfriend or something. The side characters were fine except for Kitty, who was the worst.

Overall, enjoyable but not as great as Italian Job.

One a More Chapter is an imprint of HarperCollins Publishing. I support the HPC Union on strike for fair contracts.

2.5 stars
This took me way longer than I thought it would. I loved the idea and a lot of parts throughout the book are really good. There’s just a lot of drag in between those good parts.
In between all the RomCom reenactments, Harry and Sally just have the same conversations over and over again.

Third act breakup was over a stupid reason that didn’t hold any ground.

This book just didn’t feel like it had a lot of driving purpose.

I really wanted to love it but it needed to be strung together better.

Great tension and ok spice. 18+

Special thanks to Netgalley and the authors and workers at HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter who deserve a fair contract for this digital ARC

I think I want to marry this book. I love ROMCOMS, from Dirty Dancing to Never been Kissed and everything inbetween and so this book made my soul sing.
From the main characters Harry and Sally to their rendition of the iconic lift going viral, every bit of this book made my heart fly.
There is a decent amount of spice too. I loved it

I feel mean giving this a 2.5 ⭐️ review. Honestly, I thought I was going to love this book. It has great reviews, it’s about romcoms- it seemed like a shoe in. But it felt slow and a bit repetitive with the romcom make believe. I was annoyed that Harry couldn’t just get over his ridiculous lack of communication and I don’t feel like it dug deep enough into the emotional side of how much his parents really screwed him up. One thing that really annoyed me is Sally was so patient the.whole.book. Even when the story hits its climax (at like 86% 😫) she’s still just weepy and not totally angry. She forgives him for everything and never really sticks up for herself and it just felt not real. The ending felt really cheesy too. It was a struggle for me. I think I wanted more from the characters. More depth. Clearly I’m missing something because soooo many people loved it. Thanks @NetGalley for the opportunity to read this!

NOBODY PUTS ROM COMS IN THE CORNER is my favorite book for 2023 so far. It’s funny, sweet and seriously clever. There’s passion, romance, the green eyed monster and the perfect guy in Harry who believes he can’t ever love anyone then meets Sally who just by being herself, shows him what he is missing in life..

The whole premise for the story is brilliant to those of us that know and love our rom coms. Sally, with her friends Kitty and Vince watch their favorite movies over and over, rebelling in the iconic scenes. Harry becomes Sally’s lodger and finds all this quite foreign. He’s a no nonsense guy, and romance is nonsense to him. When you meet his parents, you’ll see why.

Sally is all sunshine, helpful to a fault, and looking for “The One” that will live her as much as she loves him. She learns some valuable lessons about love.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley.com and this is my voluntary review. Loved it!

DNF at 34%. I had high hopes for this book. I was expecting a super cute homage to classic rom coms…that’s not really what I got. Yes, the book is kind of cute with the characters being named Harry and Sally, but it’s not a true homage to the rom com. It fell flat and it’s even a little boring. I wish it felt more lively or more fun.

This was a cute, lighthearted romance that romcom movie lovers would absolutely appreciate. All of the romcom movie references was my favorite part for sure. Harry and Sally (yes those are their names) had good chemistry even if it was a bit cheesy at times. Overall, it was enjoyable even if it might not be your most memorable romance read.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The romcom to end all romcoms - this book will make even a cynic smile!

This book reminded me of all the reasons why I love romance novels! It is filled to the brim with nostalgic romcom nods, but also those traditional romance novel tropes: grumpy/sunshine, forced proximity, friends-to-lovers.

I loved seeing Harry and Sally share the more difficult parts of their past and current lives with each other, and see them grow closer as a result. It really added another dimension to this admittedly cheesy story.

This book is perfect for those moments when all you really need is a fun romance novel to escape into and make you smile!

As if the title and cover aren't enough to make you fall in love with this book, the story is even better. Sally loves romantic movies, Harry hates them. Sally convinces her grumpy flatmate to reenact iconic romcom moments with her for TikTok videos, she starts to see another side of him, one that means even if HE doesn't see himself as romcom lead material, she might be able to. Ridiculously cute and a complete pleasure to read, snag this “Grumpy”- Sunshine, forced-proximity romance ASAP! Enthusiastically recommend!

I loved this book. Harry is Sally's new roommate. What starts as a joke acting out scenes from romcom leads to more. He is anti romance though so.do they stand a chance at being together for real?
A great read, makes me want to go and research all the films they mention.

Loved it! The title and blurb reeled me in and Sally and Harry and their fantastic re-enactments from rom cons kept me hooked. I really enjoyed them recreating the scenes, how Sally explained how they were important and Harry gave his sarcastic comments, then still, in his own style wooed her in the video. Their spark was bright. Harry’s heart was so large, he just didn’t realise, he’d never been shown love or wanted to show love before he met Sally. Watching him discover what love is was so funny at times. This was a brilliant read from start to finish.

If the title didn’t give it away, yes this read is extremely cheesy, predictable, and all about romcoms. I wasn’t expecting much depth out of this book given the premise, and nothing super stand out about it.

You have the grumpy guy who doesn’t believe in love and the girl who believes in the love that exists in romcoms. Their roommates that start to have a little too much attraction when they start recreating RomCom scenes for their TikTok is trending (does anyone else cringe when TikTok is referenced in books? Or just me?). You see where this all goes.

I did enjoy the consistent references to different romcom movies (made me laugh), and the level of steam (it was all just implied and nothing too much which is my cup of tea).

Overall, I enjoyed it. It was a simple, easy read and good timing to read with Valentine’s Day approaching!

This book was a love letter to all romcom movie buffs like me! Harry and Sally (IYKYK) are total opposites, she dreams of finding her HEA and he doesn't believe in love. In a twist of fate these two end up living together and find out that they can make some money on social media by reenacting famous scenes of romance movies! One of their first interactions being them trying to enact the dirty dancing lift, that got me cackling! So freaking funny!

With every scene they played, Harry and Sally got closer as friends and roommates but also started to feel a romantic chemistry that was hard to deny. I loved how when they started to get involved all the cards were on the table, they both knew where they stood and what they wanted out of it. There was no big emotional crisis to overcome on either end, besides Harry learning that love doesn't always end in disaster. I loved the pace of the story and how mature the characters were. Plus we have great side characters in Sally's friends, the rebuilding of her relationship with her sister (who pissed me off in the beginning), and a grand gesture at the end because you know, ROMCOMS!

If you're looking for a feel good, love letter to romcoms book, this is it!

Thank you Netgalley for an ARC of this book. Sadly I couldnt finish it. You have given me so many great reads to preview and this one, just had so many problems it couldnt hold my attention. I very rarely do not finish a book but I did not enjoy these characters at all. I felt like, yes their video was funny, but just because they made one funny video it didnt seem realistic to me that suddenly they found a way to monetize their social media and create more content because the world wants it. Also it seems very forced that suddenly Harry is moving into Sally's flat without them ever having met, knowing nothing about each other and suddenly there is this relationship but I am not sure how it even started other then this one dirty dancing hold video. I dont know I read a lot of this genre and this one just wasnt for me. I decided in 2022 that I would not just finish books that I wasnt connecting with and this one was a did not finish.

This book seriously gave me the fuzzies! 😍😭🫠 I haven't read anything else by Kathryn Freeman yet, but wow, does she have a way with words! She was able to describe those tricky-to-put-to-words feelings sooooo well! I've already added her backlist to my TBR!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Of course our MC's have one of the most iconic duo in RomCom's names: Harry and Sally. 🥰

Yes, I know this is a romcom so we can predict the cute-ness, but I appreciated that the characters were real and flawed and had so much growth throughout the book! A lot of romcom movies typically tie everything up in a neat bow without any of the real-life nuances of falling in love.

Maybe a spoiler?:
My only issue with this was I hated the “conflict” in the third act, but knew it going to happen with the way that scene was left open in the beginning. I just don’t think I would have ever recovered from it if I were Sally. 😳

Tropes:
Opposites Attract
Grumpy/Sunshine
Forced Proximity

A huge thank you to Harper Collins UK, One More Chapter, and NetGalley for allowing me to read this ARC in exchange for my honest review!

This was very sweet and a little spicy. I loved Sally and Harry and how their friendship evolved. I didn’t love the TikTok crap but at least it had a purpose of moving the plot along. I wouldn’t say this is an influencer storyline but TikTok is used as a tool to explore their feelings. Harry is so dreamy and such a loner, Sally is just what he needed. Hated the inevitable third act misunderstanding. Actions speak louder than words and Harry’s actions were loud and clear. Loved the cast of characters and location. Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC

“Nobody Puts Romcoms in the Corner” is a delightful and fun book! I love the setting of this story, it takes place in Brighton, UK. I also really enjoyed reading about Sally’s café! The details that the author has included provide the reader with a clear picture of the café. The author has done great work creating such three-dimensional characters and taking the reader on both Harry and Sally’s emotional journeys. Throughout the story we see the characters realizing the depth of their feelings for each other and working towards understanding their own thoughts and emotions and how they see and understand the people around them. The strong friendship between Sally, Vince, and Kitty was wonderful! I think it’s great that the author has included details about the beginning of the trio’s friendship. I also enjoyed seeing the outcome of the interactions between Sally and her sister Amy. I like the speed of the plot and love the author’s writing style. The recreation of the scenes from “Dirty Dancing’ and “Ghost” were my favorites! So much fun. This book explores the themes of: family, tension and pressure among family, obligation, friendship, love, and the power of action over words. This book is fun, lighthearted, swoony, and thoughtful all at the same time. I highly recommend reading it! Especially if you enjoy watching romantic comedies. Thank you very much to the author Kathryn Freeman, One More Chapter, Harper Collins UK, and NetGalley for providing me with a digital copy to read and review honestly.

💕I loved Harry! How could Sally not?!

4.5🌟 stars
Engaging characters, romance galore and a bit of steam made for a really good read.

Why did this story grab me and hold me through to the end? Harry. This male lead seems, on the surface, to have all the confidence and charisma but, thanks to his parents and previous relationship experience he actually doesn't believe he's all that or in the Great Romance because he doubts anyone could love him. He evoked such sympathy in me as he tried to please Sally and show her how much he cared, even stepping in to help with her sister. Kathryn Freeman really knows how to create a likable, relatable hero who can be honest, earnest and tug on the heartstrings (especially in the later chapters of the book).

I also adored the scenes recreating top romcom moments and Harry's cheese sandwich confabs with his builder mates.

If this book doesn't inspire you to go back and see all those romcoms again I would be surprised. But I would also enjoy seeing this story made into its own movie!🎬

Thanks to One More Chapter and NetGalley for sharing a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.
