Unfortunately, I chose to DNF this title at 40%. I was so excited to read this because of the adorable cover, the cute title, and the fun premise. However, once I got started...I just couldn't get into the story. I don't want to belabor the point, because at the end of the day, this isn't a bad book...it's just a book that didn't work for me. I love rom-com books! I love rom-com movies! I loved all the references (from many of my all-time favorite movies)! This book should have been right up my alley, but somehow it missed the mark. Were I allowed to allocate 1/2 stars, I would put this at a 2.5 because I know it's a story that will work for a lot of readers; I'm just not one of them. Thanks to the publishers and to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this ARC.

3.5 stars rounded up!

I saw the title of this book and knew right away that I had to read it! Dirty Dancing is one of my all-time favorite movies, so the title and the cover really drew me to this one. This story follows Harry and Sally (yes, like the movie!), as they navigate their newfound Tiktok fame from recreating that epic lift scene from Dirty Dancing. This one was full of humor, but also had a lot of serious moments and topics. This, for me, was unexpected, but I really think these deeper moments added to the depth of the characters. We had a grumpy/sunshine trope (which I'm starting to love more and more), a good cast of friends, and a great setting. My only real complaint was that, even though written in dual POV, it was hard to tell the difference between who was talking sometimes. Overall, this was a quick, cute read, with a little bit of steam. Perfect for romance lovers and for February!

Thank you to the author, NetGalley, and the publisher for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

This book comes out on February 27!

“Not an expert, not even close, not in any of this. But nobody will try harder than me to make you happy”

Read if you Like:
♥️ Romcoms
♥️“Grumpy”- Sunshine
♥️ Forced Proximity
♥️ Flatmates to Lovers

If you’re a lover of classic romcoms such as Dirty Dancing, Ghost, Pretty Woman, etc. then this book is for you!

Harry and Sally are complete opposites, Sally LOVES love, while Harry thinks it’s a fantasy. But after a few margaritas ( got to love tequila 😆), they decide to recreate famous romcom scenes to earn a little extra cash. The more they film, it becomes hard to deny the chemistry between them.

Nobody Puts RomComs in the Corner was such a fun read! The playful banter between the Harry & Sally was absolutely adorable and when I wasn’t laughing at their crazy romcom recreations, I was SWOON-ING! The tension was 🔥🔥🔥, seriously, it was so good!

Harry & Sally were two beautiful characters and even though they viewed love differently, they both had hearts of gold. I loved the depth of their characters, they "why" behind their opinions on love were so real, that you couldn't help but love them both.

Overall it was a light read, a little more emotional in the last 1/3 of the book, but it was essential to the character’s growth throughout the book. I loved every moment!

Thank you NetGalley, One More Chapter Publishing & Kathryn Freeman for the ARC . All opinions of this book are my own.

I so loved the idea of this one, and requested an ARC as soon as I saw the cover and read the description. But alas, this one fell way short in the end, largely due to the weak writing and some sexist undertones that I couldn't get on board with. I did enjoy the grumpy/sunshine trope as well as all of the references to popular rom-com movies. This one had so much potential and I'm sad I didn't enjoy it more.

3.5 stars

Nobody Puts Romcoms in the Corner had a cute concept. Two flatmates, drunk one evening, recreate the lift from Dirty Dancing and post it on social media. After a ton of views, they decide to continue recreating romcom moments.

Harry moves into Sally’s flat after he breaks up with his cheating girlfriend. But, surprise…he has his own house. He just won’t kick his cheating ex out. *insert confused face.* Harry is a very anti-romcom grump, the complete opposite of Sally, who is trying to find her true love.

I had a hard time connecting to either character. Both felt like such extremes, very black or white. Their chemistry was definitely there, but I wondered about the romantic connection, as they never seemed to actually talk about life. Overall it was cute and lighthearted, even though it does go into some difficult moments at times. I enjoyed their recreations and the interactions within their friend group. Nobody Puts Romcoms in the Corner was another cute read from Kathryn Freeman.

Cute, cute cute! Nobody Puts Romcoms in the Corner is just downright adorable. If you are a lover of all the classic romcom movies, this is the book for you. Sooo many nods to the best films of the best. The characters have good character development and are facing some real challenges along the way. They have a bit more inner dialogue than I prefer... I like her but I don't believe in love / I like him but he can't be the guy for me type of stuff on repeat. The forced proximity and the way the characters begin to connect is so much fun though. The wrap up is classic romcom good too. All around, this is an enjoyable read for romcom readers!

Nobody Puts Romcoms in the Corner is out Feb 27th. Thank you Netgalley and One More Chapter HC for my e-arc!

This was one of the best romance books I have ever read!! I genuinely cared about all of the characters and loved the storyline. The chemistry was definitely there as soon as they met, I was rooting for them from the beginning.

Sally is a romantic who loves romcoms. Her roommate Harry doesn't believe in love. This is a very light and a bit silly read. Yet it makes me laugh out loud at times. Lots of eyerolling moments too. It's predictable but cute enough to made me want to keep reading. I liked the movie references. I've watched most of them. I liked the ending.

This was such a perfect romantic comedy, with a little spice but nothing too explicit for those who like a little more of the subtle spice.

Sally hasn't had it easy and there's no doubt that she's a tough cookie. But she definitely has a gooey centre and is an absolute glutton for a classic romcom. She longs to find the one and believes in happy ever afters.

Enter Harry. New room-mate and self-confessed cynic. He doesn't believe in love and would rather watch paint dry than endure a cheesy romcom.

So when he dares to diss THE LIFT from Dirty Dancing as nothing special, and something anyone could do, the challenge is on. Getting up close and personal while they practise the lift leads to a tiktok upload which goes viral.

Which gives canny business woman Sally an idea. Recreating classic scenes from romcoms in the hope of making some money for them both. Harry reluctantly agrees.

And while they both try to ignore their growing attraction for one another, THAT KISS from The Notebook finally breaks down any and all common sense and they begin a passionate... well there lies the problem. Harry thinks they can be two people who like each other and like sex with each other even more. And Sally thinks that's enough for now. But as she feels herself falling for this rugged and sexy builder, she tries to call a halt before her heart gets broken.

Can Harry find the words to express something he's never even felt before? Will those cheesy romcoms he so disparaged give him a helping hand when he needs it the most?

This book gave me all the feels. Funny, sweet, sexy and romantic. Sizzling chemistry between Sally and Harry which would definitely translate so well onto the screen. I loved this book from start to finish.

This was so freaking cute!! As a romcom lover, this was the perfect book for me. I have to say, Sally and Harry were sometimes a bit annoying with their strong beliefs, they felt repetitive at times. But in general, I loved the nostalgia in this story and their relationship is just beautiful. I just loved all the characters and everything that happened. They deserve their happy ever after.

Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the e-arc.

I chose to DNF this book at 20%. I just finished an amazing book before this one, so maybe it put me in a slump. I thought this had a cute premise, and I liked the grumpy/sunshine trope. Unfortunately I just wasn't feeling chemistry between Harry and Sally. They were both a bit too extreme, and there wasn't any lead-in to their sudden attraction. It was just a lot of innuendo and sexual frustration that came out of nowhere, which is just not my thing. I'm still giving this 3 stars, because I can see how others might like this- especially all the classic rom-com movie mentions. But unfortunately it just wasn't the right book for me.

⭐️⭐️⭐️

I’m a big rom-com fan, HUGE 😉 I watch them all the time so obviously the title of this book caught my eye. We meet Harry and Sally (of course); Sally is a huge rom-com lover, like literally obsessed, and ends up renting out her extra room to Harry, the builder that hates rom-coms and doesn’t really believe in love. They both could do with some extra cash, and after their drunken recreation of 'that' Dirty Dancing lift goes viral on TikTok, they agree to continue recreating scenes.

I loved the premise of the story, I really enjoyed spotting the references to other movies and characters. It’s a cute grumpy/sunshine trope storyline and overall is a very light-hearted cheesy romance. Although they did recreate a few scenes, I would have loved to see even more as they were probably my favourite moments of the book. And I kinda felt that the romance between the main characters started a bit too quickly for me, I just prefer more of a build up before they’re making it obvious that they fancy each other, but otherwise it was an enjoyable read

I’ve really enjoyed reading this book. It’s a warm, funny and heartwarming read. I really liked Harry and Sally and I loved their attempts to become ‘tik tok famous’. I loved the banter between them and I loved all the references to my favourite films, especially pretty woman, never been kissed and dirty dancing. I love a good romcom and this one hasn’t disappointed. As sally would say it gave me the ‘fuzzies’. This is the first book I’ve read by this author and it won’t be the last.

What happens when Harry meets Sally? Just like the iconic film, it takes some time for them to realize that they are MFEO. Along the way they act out some iconic romcom moments -- your favorite will most likely be in there. Such a fun premise and I loved all the references to some of my favorite films.
Both say they are in it to monetize the Tiktok account, but anyone with eyes can see there is more going on. How will they know when it's love? Harry does not believe in the concept and Sally is waiting to literally hear bells. Could be never at the rate they are going. The steam level in this title was cranked up to high for my tastes. As Phoebe of "Friends" fame once said, "My eyes! My eyes!" I do think this does show us quite a bit about love and successful relationships. Here's a hint: fantastic sex may just be chemistry. All that "smushing of bodies" (thanks for that term, Marilyn) is just activity and may not really engage the heart and soul.
What's your love language? Sally's is most definitely "words of affirmation" while Harry seems like he might be a combo of "words" and "quality time." Why do I say that? Well, despite the hot S-E-X happening in this book, that is not what essentially seals the deal on the relationship.

Let's start with the positive aspects: it's the absolute perfect read for any hardcore rom-com lover, and it couldn't have been published at a better time. Harry is a dreamboat! I really liked his brand of grumpy. I feel like there are so many grumpy x sunshine romances out there it's very easy for it to become boring, but I genuinely enjoyed Harry and Sally's dynamic. The writing was fun and it got some giggles out of me!

Now, for the aspects that weren't my favorites, keeping in mind this is completely subjective. I get that the whole concept of the story was for it to revolve around rom-coms and romance culture in media, but sometimes it felt a bit forced. I personally adore the genre and have seen all the films that are mentioned in the book, but I just think the continuous quotes and title-dropping became too much, particularly in the last portion of the story. I thought the plot was fun and a great way to achieve that forced proximity that was needed to make them realise how badly they wanted each other, but once again, at some point it felt like things were happening too conveniently, and I struggled to continue after hitting the 50% mark. As for the side characters, which are always important to me as I feel they should help propel the story forward, I sadly didn't particularly enjoy any of them, and wish they'd been more heavily characterised.

All in all, as I mentioned at the beginning of the review, I would recommed this book to any rom-com fan who wants to re-immerse themselves into all the classics of the genre, but I wouldn't reread it.
