The first book I’ve read by Kathryn Freeman and I loved it. The rom com references throughout, the reenacting scenes for tik tok! Harry and Sally are great characters! I would definitely love to see another novel featuring them, a what are the my doing now, how is her sister Amy getting on.

I posted my review to goodreads (https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/5354515669) but this was such a light, fluffy, sweet book! Absolutely loved reading it. Thanks for the opportunity!

This was probably 3.5 stars for me but I rounded up because it was so fun! I loved all of the romcom references. I did enjoy the main characters. It did have a high cheese factor at times but isn’t that the charm of rom coms?

I have read the majority of this authors books now and you can always rely on them for likeable characters with an easy to read plot. This was no different however I did find it a little… cheesy. I wasn’t as gripped as I have been with some of her other books but it was a fairly easy read nonetheless. The idea didn’t quite work for me with this one but I’m sure it’ll be popular with a lot of romance readers.

I am probably one of the biggest fans of Kathryn Freeman’s writing – having already read and loved The Beach Reads Book Club, The Italian Job, Mr. Right Across the Street, Up Close and Personal and The New Guy – I just knew I was going to love Nobody Puts Romcoms in the Corner as much – I mean the title itself just sets off THAT Dirty Dancing song in my head!
The story follows the main character, Sally, and her flatmate, Harry (yes, the nods to romcoms continue) after a drunken bet one night leads them to recreate THAT lift from Dirty Dancing (Yes, I’m singing the song again!), and film it for TikTok! It goes badly wrong, but their video still goes viral! This is where they both realise they could make some money from their romcom antics.
The antics both Sally and Harry get up to are probably some of the funniest scenes in a book I have read, but what I also loved was watching the chemistry between them develop – the chemistry was practically steaming! Both Sally and Harry have been hurt in the past though, so can they get over their past and give in to the very obvious chemistry simmering between them both?
Nobody Puts Romcoms in the Corner is yet another incredibly written book by Kathryn Freeman. Her characters are always so well-written, so believable and so real. As a reader, you are always taken on the journey with these characters, which is one of the reasons why I adore Kathryn’s writing so much. A must-read from me. And you will be pleased to hear – I have stopped singing THAT song now!!

I just couldn't do it. It is super cheesy and I can already tell it will be super predictable.
Nothing against the book, if I was in the mood for a super easy light read I may pick this one up again and give it another try, but it was just too simple for me right now.

Sally has always loved romcoms; Harry, not so much. But when Sally convinces her grumpy flatmate to reenact iconic romcom moments with her for TikTok videos, she starts to see another side of him, one that means even if HE doesn't see himself as romcom lead material, she might be able to. The only problem is, not only does he not believe in romcoms-- he doesn't believe in love at all.
As their videos start to gain a following and they ramp up the romance for the audiences, Sally and Harry both start to wonder what exactly is brewing between them--and how to explore it without someone getting hurt.
It took me a little while to get into the book, but by the end I was absolutely riveted. Nobody Puts Romcoms In The Corner is cute, and funny, and exactly the kind of ridiculous experience I've always dreamed of having. Obviously, with it being a romcom, I knew they would end up together, but I didn't know which iconic scene would eventually do it-- and there are a few: the one that makes them finally explore the physical feelings, the one that makes them acknowledge the romantic one, the one that had them finally TOGETHER together. It was so fun to watch them recreate the scenes and to wonder which ones they'd make their own more deeply.
I really, really loved this one and can't wait to read more by Kathryn Freeman.

Put this one on your nightstand/as your bathtime reading... wherever you treat yourself! Nobody Puts Romcoms in the Corner is a fabulously fun read, filled with smiles, some banter, and a genuine welcome affection for some classic movies and tropes. This took that grey weather Feb blahs and tossed sunshine and smiles on the days! Thank you Harper Collins UK/One More Chapter for all the smiles and joy for the story of another Harry and Sally.
true enjoyment in book form!

I picked this book because of the title and because I love dirty dancing. I expected a rom com filled love story and I got it in spades. The way the two reenacted all the best scenes from famous rom coms was so fun and I found myself wanting to watch all the movies again.. I loved the fresh new take of viral tik tok stars with this book. I would have watched all their videos and been routing for them to fall in love with the rest of their followers. I really enjoyed the banter between the main characters. They had sexual tension and you were just routing for them. The cute eternal optimist falls for the brooding pessimist was done to perfection in this book. Great writing, very new story line with so much nostalgia for great movies. So great. I would recommend for any one that likes grumpy sunshine, rom coms, and a great romance.

📖 ARC REVIEW 📖
Thank you @onemorechapterhc for an early copy of Nobody Puts Romcoms In The Corner by Kathryn Freeman. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. 🤍
Nobody Puts Romcoms In The Corner is a closed proximity, sunshine/grump romcom about Sally and Harry; Sally is a classic romantic while Harry is a classic cynic; they recreate “the lift” from Dirty Dancing on one drunken night, and the video goes viral. They both realize there’s a potential financial benefit for both of them, thus they decide to recreate other scenes from different romcom films. What happens if their acting turns into something more – real?
Who doesn’t love romcoms? Actually, Harry doesn’t – but it didn’t stop him from giving in to recreating romcom scenes with Sally. It was actually fun seeing these two fall for each other while doing so, and knowing that both of them went through so much heartache in the past, it was difficult not to root for them. Both have different takes on love, and I understand why Harry was so cynical about it as he has been cheated on, but I loved how it changed when he met and spent time with Sally.
Despite the humor and cuteness of the scenes in this novel, it failed to retain my attention; it took me a while to continue reading as the pacing was quite slow, but overall it was a light and sweet read.
Rating this ⭐⭐⭐/5. Releases February 27, 2023!

When Harry met Sally, 1 loves RomComs and the other one doesn't. When they start reacting RomComs classic scenes together not only does the public become hooked on the story. So do you as a reader, I loved this book! I always think I'm done with Chick Lit then I read one and remember why I love them. Really recommend if you want love and laughter

A cosy, easy-to-read contemporary romance with the grumpy + sunshine trope you can devour in one sitting. You'll enjoy even more if you've seen a few of the big romcom movies. Spoiler alert: reading this book will feel like watching one of them too.
In the book cafe owner Sally becomes landlady to Harry the builder, when his ex refuses to move out of his own house. Sally's passionate about watching romcoms, while sceptical Harry refuses to belive in love. One night they jokingly recreate the infamous lifting scene from Dirty Dancing, and their TikTok of it goes viral. They decided to keep the videos going to earn some money, inevitably falling for each other in the process.
It's not that easy though, as Harry comes from a cold and loveless family and is unwilling to acknowledge the fact that he could ever love anyone. Sally, the hopeless romantic then gets hung up on this statement, which makes everything complicated. Even though they're undoubtedly head over heels for each other.
While telling this love story, the book also deals with complicated family relationships, and how hard it is to do and say something, even if you really want to, when you have certain mental blocks that prevent you. Having a hint of reality and humaneness is always refreshing in a romance book, making it all the more relatable. And I gotta say, all these parts were wonderfully written in this book.
I found it a really fun and easy read that made me both happy and sad as we went through the ups and downs with the characters. I got a little frustrated towards the end when Sally just couldn't let go of these very... specific and literal labels and expectations, but overall still enjoyed the romance.

Sally is a romantic. She knows every rom-com movie inside out, and believes that when she meets 'the one' she will, quite literally, hear bells sounding in her head. Harry on the other hand is a cynic. He does not believe in love, and would rather be caught dead than watch a rom-com. So, when the two of them end up flatmates, the sparks that fly are more of the adversarial than the lovey-dovey kind... at first.
Before long, they feel a sexual tension developing between them, even if they cannot admit it. After all, they really are not each other's type, are they? As the frostiness begins to melt, a drunken episode has them re-enacting (and videoing) the famous lift from Dirty Dancing, and Sally has the bright idea to upload it to TikTok. Their poor effort to emulate the Grey-Swayze dance move goes viral, and it sets Sally thinking that they might be able to make money off the back of their instant fame by copying other beloved moments from rom-com movies - and #EpicRomcomReenactmentFailure is born.
As they rack up more and more re-enactment fails with their own brand of twist, Sally and Harry's pretend on-line relationship develops into a very intense real one, but their differences have them convinced that they are not in this for the long-haul - no matter how great their sex life. Can the rom-com magic lead to a happy ending for them both?
This is a classic romance between two characters who seem to have very little in common at the beginning of the story - one believing that real life can be as portrayed in rom-com land, and one convinced that true love does not even exist. But where would we be if the course of true love ran smooth? Freeman bounds joyfully headlong into a tale that has her misfit pair learning to look at love a little differently, when they are brought together by necessity.
The attraction between them starts as purely sexual, fed by their physical closeness as they run through Sally's repertoire of rom-com highlights, and this leads to some very steamy scenes. Each of them spends so much time convinced that they are not what each other needs, especially as they have their own issues to work through, that when they find a way to meet somewhere between full-on rom-com dreamland and emotional cynicism it comes as a big surprise to them both. A bevy of misunderstandings and mishaps crop up in the process, as you would expect, but this makes the final pay-off all the more swoon-worthy.
I liked Sally and Harry very much (a genius naming of the pair from Freeman there), though I did not really gel with the supporting players, other than the hilarious Hilda and Mildred. In fact, I intensely disliked many of them for almost the entire story (side-eyeing Harry's mother and ex-girlfriend, and Sally's sister Amy here), but this kind of adds to the gorgeousness of the storyline that brings Sally and Harry together against the odds.
This tale is a goldmine for laugh out loud moments (including a giggle at the thought of characters who feel they are past it at the dizzy heights of thirty-years-old), and I loved all the references to some cracking rom-com movies. It is full of fun, sass, and well-judged poignancy, and it ends right where you want your happy ending to be. Perfect escapist rom-com enjoyment to warm the cockles of your heart!

Rom com movie lovers rejoice!! This book is literally made for you. The main character is a die hard rom com fanatic and is waiting patiently for her own leading man to find her and sweep her off her feet. It certainly will not be her new roommate, the surly, quiet carpenter, Harry. But when a drunken night leads them to recreate a famous scene and the video goes viral, they find themselves recreating more and more lovey-dovey moments.
The grumpy/sunshine pairing is one of my favorites because I love to see the characters open themselves up to love in ways they weren’t expecting! This was definitely a little cheesy, but everything I want in a romance!

Sally loves and lives by rom-coms, waiting for the perfect man that will give her the fuzzies and hear bells ring. Harry is pragmatic and does not. When she rents her spare bedroom to him, they both try to convince each other that the other one is wrong. After testing a theory by reenacting the lift from Dirty Dancing on video, Sally uploads it on TikTok and gets thousands of new followers in a few hours. And they want more...
This was such a cute, lol funny grumpy sunshine/friends with benefits romance! It was filled to the brim with rom-com movies references, great tension and chemistry, and the banter was amazing. At first it gets a bit redundant (she has an idea for scene, he accepts to do it but not watch the movie, telling her how the story would end in real life, they do the scene, they get more views), but after the halfway mark the author mixes things up a bit. The subplots felt very superfluous (her with her sister and him with Isabelle and his parents), almost like an after-thought, sometimes forgotten along the way, but I loved the final conflict (it was original, far from the usual misunderstanding). I also loved the side characters (at least, most of them, but those I didn't love were meant to be unlikeable). I definitely recommend this!

This was a cute story. I really enjoyed that there was the focus on romcoms because I think this is something that many romance readers can relate to. I loved the mention of the hope that is inspired by romance films (and books). I liked both of the main characters and enjoyed watching their relationship develop.
Thank you to NetGalley and HarperCollins UK for this ARC. All opinions are my own.

I really enjoyed this adorable romance! It was pure enjoyment, and if you are a classic romcom fan, I can't imagine you won't enjoy it as well. This book referenced so many of my favorite movies from 10-25 years ago...some of which the characters reenact scenes, and others they just talk about them, all in humorous ways. As a side note, I had completely forgotten about several of these movies, and realized I need to rewatch them again. Nicely done by this author to compile all these iconic love scenes! The love story between these two characters is super sweet, and while the ending is somewhat predictable, getting there was just so much fun. If romance books and movies are your thing, you must read this one soon!

The cutest Romcom! I really really liked this. I love how unique the idea of referencing/reenacting, in present day, the classic romance movie scenes in this book was. I find this book truly different from many of the day to day Romcoms I read. Sally lives by herself, needing a roommate after her sister bailed to be with her new boyfriend. She is a vibrant café owner who is sweet and has a huge addiction to romantic movies. Harry is a tall, handsome, and rugged builder needing a place to rent to escape his house that his cheating ex will not leave; complete love cynic. Cue when Harry met Sally. Pun intended. Complete opposites, quickly realizing the mutual attraction for each other. Sally and Harry reenacted the Dirty Dancing lift on social media, and it immediately went viral. Realizing they both could make an income, and after a lot of begging Harry, they both go through town reenacting scenes from some of our favorite classic romance movies. With rising feelings of these complete opposites, do you think these two will either find a happy medium on their views on love, or will someone get their heart broken? It was so easy to read and kept me entertained the entire way through. I loved the dual points of view and immediately fell in love with the characters. Such an adorable Romcom, and I thoroughly enjoyed it! A truly perfect Grumpy/Sunshine Romcom.
4.5 Stars!

Nobody Puts Romcoms In the Corner by Kathryn Freeman is going to be a huge hit! First, the characters names are Sally and Harry. Do we not remember that famous romcom movie?!? I love all the romcom references in this book since Sally is a die hard romcom fan. Harry is cynical and doesn't believe in it. Through the power of a bet, social media, and becoming roommates, these two are destine for love, or so we hope. I loved this book so much! I laughed and wanted these characters to be real! Highly recommend!

Sally is a romantic, and believes in true love, while Harry is the opposite; but when these two opposites find themselves in a drunken bet, and after their video goes viral, they decide to put this to good use.
I loved this novel! I thought the characters having two opposites showed a great contrast in the theme of romance and love. I am a sucker for a love story and this is definitely one of my favourites for the year so far. Some bits were laugh-out-loud funny with the perfect amount of spice; I can maybe see this being a series.
I have read this author before and look forward to reading them again.
