This was such a fun read! I may not be as well versed in romcoms as Sally, but I know enough to appreciate and enjoy all the various references throughout the story.

Sally rents her room out to Harry, the friend of a friend. He's not her usual type, and she's not his, but they find themselves attracted to each other as the days go on. Being a romantic cynic, he is amused by her adoration of romcoms. Sally challenges him, after a few margaritas, to re-enact the famous lift from Dirty Dancing. She records it, then posts it to TikTok. It becomes viral overnight, and Sally comes up with the idea to do more scenes with him, recording and posting them with the clever idea of lining up sponsors in order to earn some extra money. He agrees, and as they go through the movies, they begin to feel things for one another... Is it all just acting for the viral content, or could it be real?

I laughed a lot while reading this story, and enjoyed watching the characters get to know each other. It was light and sweet, a quick read, and quite enjoyable. Definitely worth a read!

I absolutely LOVED this book. It was so fun to see Sally and Harry’s relationship play out as they recreated famous scenes from Rom Coms. Both characters dealt with issues outside of their control, and yet they really were there for each other.

If you love a good rom com, then this is the book for you. I highly recommend it.

𝐒𝐲𝐧𝐨𝐩𝐬𝐢𝐬: Harry and Sally become roommates when Harry breaks up with his girlfriend who he lives with when she cheats on him. He ends up renting a room from Sally who is also looking for some extra cash too. One night they have too much to drink and they recreate the lift from Dirty Dancing. They post it on TikTok and it ends up going viral. Sally soon realizes they can make money recreating popular romantic comedy scenes.

Although Harry isn’t a fan of these types of movies and doesn’t really believe in love or “happily ever after”, he goes along with it.

However, they both become surprised at how fast these RomCom scenes actually bring them together.. and how Harry might have been wrong about love all along.

𝐁𝐨𝐨𝐤 ✍️: I wanted to love this more than I did. Don’t get me wrong it’s cute, light and fun. I found it easy to read and I enjoyed the characters (except Sally’s sister). But I just couldn’t get into it. Nothing was making me want to pick it up constantly to finish it to see what happens if that makes sense? I could see what was coming next before it happened.

But, I did love all the romantic comedies references, scenes they re-enacted and I liked how Harry changed his perspective and realized what he wanted towards the end of the book.

All in all it was cute, likeable, and easy to read especially with Valentine’s Day coming up. It just wasn’t for me.

ARC review

OBSESSED! OBSESSED! OBSESSED!
I love these two characters and their chemistry and development. This read has the perfect mentions and tie ins of romcoms. I finished this in one day because I felt pulled in by the first few pages. Truly a perfect blend of all things romcom

I was expecting to like this book based on the title alone, I wasn’t expecting to love this book like I did. I mean come on, the main character’s name are Harry and Sally. It full of nostalgic rom-com movie quotes and them acting out scenes for Tik-Tok…. Book teasers of those Tik-Tok would be amazing! You have Sally, struggling with having to the big sis and mom to a younger sister. Their parents died when they were young but the parents love (and mom’s love of rom-coms) kept Sally going and her belief that one day she would have a love like theirs. Then we have Harry, his parents don’t even like each other and he doesn’t believe in love, because he’s never seen or felt loved. I was prepared for the feel goods, I was not prepared for the tears that moved me and made me devour this book in 3 days wanting more.

Loved this book so much.

Sally owns a cafe and has taken care of her younger sister since the death of their parents when Sally was 16. A hopeless romantic who loves rom-com movies, Sally has built a life for herself after tragedy, yet still yearns for love -- the type of love her parents had.

Harry owns a construction company and needs a room to to rent after he catches his ex cheating on him and she now refuses to move out of the house he owns. This is how Harry meets Sally.

Looking for extra income, Sally rents a room to Harry and later figures out there is money to be made on
Tik Tok recreating scenes from rom-com movies. Sparks fly and it becomes obvious Harry and Sally are attracted to each other despite Harry thinking he is incapable of loving someone after watching his parent's dysfunctional marriage and his own relationships fizzle out. But Sally looks to rom-coms for hope that she and Harry can get their own happy rom-com ending.

Harry and Sally are so likeable and completely adorable together. I was rooting for them the entire book. The book mixes tragedy and heartbreak with love and romance and maybe , just maybe, a happy rom-com ending.

Thanks Net Galley for the preview copy. Loved this book. Will read it again and other books by this author .Also reviewed on Goodeads.com

Sally and Harry become roomates and start to recreate iconic romcom scenes online. In the meantime they fall in love. Harry slowly starts to believe in love. This was such a cute romance book and was enjoyable. It made you think about some of your favorite romantic comedy movies.
Thank you to the publisher and author for the advanced copy of this book.

This was such a cute read! It reminded me of Not Like the Movies and makes so many references to every single rom-com ever, so it's right up a romance lover's alley. It is very cheesy, so make sure to take your Lactaid pills beforehand. This book is more modern than many of the 90s movies and even includes some well-deserved mental health rep. A slow start, some miscommunications, but overall, a great read. Will be reading this again!

I knew from the clever title that this was going to be a joyous read and Kathryn Freeman 100% delivered upon it. There are some books that just make you giddy and this is one of them! I loved the romcoms of my teens (late 90s/early 00s) and I've been lamenting that the genre of romcom has been sorely lackluster since I reached adulthood and for the 2o years since. So this book was like the perfect tribute to the romcom genre as I remembered it....a rom com in itself, but with a quite poignant message about true love and how it looks different than the perfect film endings. I related alot to Sally and her romantic view of love as I was like her in my 20s (probably due to watching too many romcoms), but after 13 years of marriage and 2 kids, totally understand how love looks different. It is hard and messy, but so worth it. This is a steamy read, so if you are adverse to reading open door scenes, you might need to "fast-forward" through some pages. But the whole book was just a delightful read that carried me through a long weekend!

You wouldn’t think it if you met me, but I’m a romcom junkie. I love them. So when I saw this book and read the premise, I was 100% on board with it. It references a lot of the greatest romcoms of the past few decades, so I was familiar with that aspect. It’s a relatively easy read, but I don’t think it was what I was hoping for. Still though, I think romance lovers will definitely enjoy it!

This was a rom com lovers dream book, with so many references to classic movie moments and even main characters named Harry and Sally. Harry is renting a room from Sally when they recreate THE lift from Dirty Dancing and gain thousands of followers on TikTok. Sally sees the potential to make some money recreating other rom com moments, and the two continue to gain followers as they post more videos showing their chemistry. Feelings get involved along the way, complicating matters.

I thought this was a fun, fluffy read. The recreations were cute and nostalgia triggering, and the playful connection between Harry and Sally was fun to read about. Harry’s reason for needing to move in with Sally was a little bit ridiculous, but it put them into a forced proximity trope that I do adore.

I was pretty bothered by Sally’s friend Kitty. I think we were supposed to like how protective she was, but man did she get annoying to me! I’m so glad she redeemed herself in the end. Her other friend Vince was a fantastic secondary character that added something extra.

Thank you to Harper Collins UK, One More Chapter, and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

The best about this book is Sally, she is a great and strong woman waiting for Mr Perfect, and you know what? she deserved to have him!
Harry was not my cup of tea but he managed to win me in the end.

𝘕𝘰𝘣𝘰𝘥𝘺 𝘗𝘶𝘵𝘴 𝘙𝘰𝘮𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘴 𝘐𝘯 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘊𝘰𝘳𝘯𝘦𝘳 narrates the story of Sally, a lover through and through and that of her flatmate, Harry, a romance cynic.

- ~ -

One fateful evening, Harry and Sally recreate the iconic lift from 𝘋𝘪𝘳𝘵𝘺 𝘋𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘪𝘯𝘨 and proceed to post it online. This sets off a chain of other recreations from classic romance movies to possibly earn more. As the pair grow closer to each other and the heat in their videos intensifies, Sally's got Harry thinking that he may not be love cynic he always believed himself to be and that he might be willing to anything to keep her beside him.

Overall the story was cute, even though Harry would vehemently oppose.
And the recreating classic romance films aspect was pretty fun.
But I wish there was some more to it.

Harry's opposition to all thing love is obvious and makes sense.
And though I adore Sally, I wish she was less laser focused on the I-want-a-love-like-the-movies viewpoint, but also proud that atleast she knew her worth and what she wanted.

All side characters were fun to read. Kitty's characters kept aggravating me and Amy's wanted to make me kick her but they redeemed themselves so all's well.

So yeah, all in all a cute wholesome story, not one I'm likely to remember, but fun.

This book is a treat for romcom lovers! So many good references, and I really enjoyed the progression of Harry and Sally’s relationship. Will definitely keep an eye out for more from this author and take a look at her backlist, as well!

When all your stereo type romcom moments are on display in all its cheesy glory!

This romance was really cute, Sally needs a roommate and Harry needs to find a temporary place after he moves out of his own house because his ex who cheated on him didn’t want to move out.

Sally is obsessed with romcoms and Harry is skeptic of love, but somehow they fit and fall in love only Harry doesn’t understand he’s in love.

This book is a perfect little romance with all the sweetness of a cheesy romcom

4 stars because near the end I felt it could have ended faster but all in all an awesome read,

Thank you NetGalley for an advance reader copy of this novel. Will be out February 10, 2023

3.5 stars!

I really enjoyed this book! It was any rom-com lover's dream. Harry and Sally are new roommates that go viral on TikTok after recreating the iconic Dirty Dancing lift and choose to run with it! Since they are both a bit short on money at the moment, they decide to keep recreating iconic rom-com moments and find themselves falling for each other during the time they spend together. This book was obviously a very cute love story with many references to the stories that raised romance lovers (like myself) but I feel like it dug a lot deeper than just a love story. This book showcases the different ways that people's childhood trauma/difficult upbringings can affect them as a whole but also the relationships they will go on to create in the future. We see this in Harry's absolute rejection and disbelief of love, but we also see this in Sally's persistence to see the happy ending in everything. It is interesting to see that their two very different childhoods created these very opposite sides of the spectrum of love. This book shows Harry and Sally discussing these differences and why they have them but keeps it light without too much focus on the sad events that made them this way.

This book was the definition of a fun and light modern rom-com. It had just the right amount of classic elements that everyone loves about romances and just the right amount of new/fresh elements (such as social media and mental health transparency). I highly recommend this book to my fellow hopeless romantics who are obsessed with romcoms and love stories!

Nobody Puts Romcoms in the Corner

So I liked this book, but I wish I was more romcom literate so I could have appreciated it more! The main characters, Sally and Harry, recreate iconic romcom scenes on TikTok. This book was a full of romcom references which made it fun and lighthearted, but each character had their own demons to add a more serious storyline. This is an excellent read with Valentine’s Day right around the corner!

Thanks NetGalley for this lovely love story!

⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
Sally is a cafe owner and a total romcom junkie. She’s tight for cash and decides to take in a tenant for extra income. Harry is a construction worker who’s been hurt in previous relationships and doesn’t believe in love. After a few too many margaritas one night, she convinces Harry to do the lift from Dirty Dancing. After posting it to TikTok, they gain a lot of followers and see the financial prospect. But along the way (surprise, surprise), they catch feels.

Cute. Easy, quick read.

The story of how roommates romantic Sally and gruff Harry make a TikTok based on the lift from Dirty Dancing, it proves popular and they continue to make more based on scenes from romcoms.

I really enjoyed this but did get frustrated at times with the characters and wanted to knock their heads together with the internal misunderstandings they created and it could've been a little shorter. The characters are really well developed and I'd love to know more about Amy (Sally's sister) and how her development continued after the book (with Jack...) - or even just more about her journey during the book.

I found this book really nostalgic and did happen to find When Harry met Sally on iPlayer to watch because of it.

I haven't read any of Kathryn's books before but after this will definitely read more, I do hope she does another to this one as.
