Fans of psychological thrillers, rejoice! This was a good one! I spent the whole book trying to connect the dots. It was a story split between Henry and Hannah. Henry had a rough childhood. His mother died. He had no family, no roots. Until he did. Hannah loved her family, and more than anything, her brother Mako. Mako was super successful and charming with a beautiful wife. But his past comes back to haunt him. To haunt all of them. And both stories come together and it all makes sense. Great read!

Lisa Unger brings another great book to her readers. I was drawn in from page 1, although I’ll admit I had trouble keeping up in some chapters. I’m glad I kept reading. Well developed characters and a great plot kept me guessing. A must read.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the advance copy. The premise was interesting and the book moved quickly, but other than that, it was kind of a mess. The author was just doing too much in my opinion. There was the DNA story, the odd dynamics between the group of friends, the potentially haunted cabin, the alternate Henry timeline, the creepy cabin owner plot line that was completely unnecessary, etc. This one needed an editor for sure!

With a Lisa Unger book, I think you are always guaranteed a good read. This one was no exception. I was reading until 2:15am to finish as I had to find out what happened (always the sign of a good book!)

It took me a while to get to grips with all the characters, six main characters in the cabin and other important characters around. I also found Lisa Unger has a persuasive way of moving your loyalties between the characters. There are some dark themes covered quite realistically, making me feel quite uncomfortable at times, but also unable to put the book down.

The story is told from several different timelines and also from different narrators. It is difficult to review without giving away any spoilers, however I will say that after a steady-paced start, the multi-layered plot and secrets, does all pick up pace and knit together brilliantly in the very tense, final few chapters.

This book has a captivating premise, and such an eerie setup--a secluded vacation in a cabin in rural Georgia, with a storm coming, with a creepy AirBnb host? Eek!

Readers should know, though, that they are in for all sorts of time jumps, perspective changes, and storyline interruptions, sometimes from characters that we have no idea why they relate to the other story we were reading. Stick through it, and it all makes sense. I wasn't prepared for this, and it really took the momentum out of my reading, slowing down what I expected to be a page turner.

Major TW for pregnancy loss, a part of the storyline that I didn't think felt very necessary.

Overall this book is an interesting critique of the complexities of DNA testing apps like 23andMe and Ancestry, but I felt like it tried to do a little too much and spread itself too thin.

Lisa Unger has been one of my favorite authors for a long time, so of course I was excited to read Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six...and it did not disappoint! I liked that the story was told from the perspectives of several characters and that it went back and forth between the past and present. The plot was unique and interesting, and I was excited to find out what was really going on and how it all would end. Thanks to NetGalley and Legend Press for giving me the opportunity to read and review another great Lisa Unger novel. : )

This story follows three couples who book a long weekend at a - you guessed it - secluded cabin deep in the woods for a friends-and-family retreat. The bonds and meaning of family are put to the test when things start to take a sinister turn and the past comes calling.

This is not a perfect book, but it is a fun book. I loved the creeping feeling of dread and tension that made it so compulsively readable. It was a supremely easy story to settle in with and let yourself get sucked into. There were so many nooks and crannies inside this narrative that I was constantly kept guessing and theorizing. This turned out to be a source of struggle for the novel as well, however. There were so many narrative threads, that some got lost along the way, some fizzled, and many had to be wrapped up so quickly that I was left feeling like it was less payoff than I’d built up in my head. There were even a couple characters and storylines that didn’t end up contributing much to the story.

I admit, I didn’t care all that much for the ending. It seemed a bit rushed and matter of fact after all the suspense, and there was one chapter I wish I could un-read, though I think it was the type of narrative choice that you either really like or really don’t. It wasn’t for me.

Despite these flaws, overall I have to go with my gut and rate this book 4.0 stars purely because of how much fun I had for the majority of my read-time.

This is not a perfect book, but it is the perfect book to take on your next long flight - or to read beside the fire in a secluded cabin.

I was super excited to be gifted this ARC from @netgalley because who doesn’t love a good locked room mystery?!

Unfortunately this book just wasn’t what I expected. I really wanted to love it, but on this occasion just didn’t.
I was a little confused at the start because of the multiple POV’s but soon found my footing with each character. However, I felt most characters lacked depth and some storylines didn’t actually get resolved by the end. There was one POV in particular (I won’t spoil who) who could have literally just been avoided altogether.

It’s a pity because throughout the middle of the book, I was pretty invested and really started to enjoy it. There are definitely some good parts to this book: the plot has a lot of potential and the cabin gave off real creepy vibes, however as a whole, I think it just missed the mark.

I have heard other good reviews on this book though so I do believe others can enjoy this! Obviously books aren’t for everyone and on this occasion, sadly, this wasn’t for me.

Three Couples. One Luxury Cabin. A Weekend to Die For.

What could be more relaxing than a weekend getaway with family and friends? Especially in an isolated luxury cabin in the woods, complete with spectacular views, a hot tub and a personal chef. The reviews are stellar. But a deadly storm is brewing. Things keep going wrong. And the perfect weekend is about to turn into a nightmare.

I thought this was a super fun thrill ride that kept me up late at night reading JUST ONE MORE CHAPTER. Would definitely recommend.

I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC

I usually enjoy Unger's novels and this one hooked me right from the start. I love a good locked room thriller.

Definitely creepy and fast paced. There is some timeline shifts that got confusing but everything converged in the end.

This wasn't anything life changing but very enjoyable and time well spent!!

On the positive side, this book had very well developed characters with unique personalities so it was very easy to keep track of the story when the POV’s switched.
Saying that, this book was very wordy and could have been shorter.
It was a very slow start and was almost 100 pages before the characters even got to the cabin.
I honestly had no idea where this story was going and it left me confused.
Unfortunately this book was just not for me but thank you to Netgalley and Legends Press for the ARC.

Lisa Unger is now an instant new favorite author for me. I kept putting off reading this book because of reviews I read about all the different characters, I usually can’t get into those. I finally decided to give in and read it and I am so glad I did! It all came together in the end and I absolutely loved it! Starting Confessions on the 7:45 next!

3.5⭐️ Definitely a twisty thriller with a lot of family drama. Six couples get away for a weekend in a secluded cabin. The family drama starts to unfold as a storm is upon them. This is told by multiple POV and had two story lines that came together in the end. It was slow at times but would then pick back up.
It was kind of confusing with the two stories and so many characters to keep track of.
Overall I liked it and was a fast read.

I will tell you this. All my guesses were wrong but they were a disappointing reveal. I was expecting alot more from a Lisa Unger book.

Did it keep me guessing? Yes. Did it make my jaw drop? Nah.

Told from multiple POVs in different timelines, this story follows a group of friends & family with lots of secrets. When they go on a trip, everything unravels.

Rich people drama and mystery set against the backdrop of a secluded cabin and a winter storm. The atmosphere sets the tone for this locked in, "no way out" thriller. Family secrets, betrayal, multiple characters, and POV. This thriller will keep you guessing until the very end.

3.5 stars. Rounded up as bonkers but fun!
Three couples, an isolated cabin, a brewing storm... three ingredients that go together very well indeed...
It's Hannah's birthday and her brother has organised and paid for a weekend away in a luxury cabin with Hannah's best friend and their partners. We have Hannah and Bruce, her brother Mako and Lisa, and Cricket and her current squeeze Joshua. Making up the immediate cast are the personal chef and the rental host.
Things start off well enough, the place is fantastic, but it has a history which the chef is only too eager to spill all about. A tragedy in the past. One that wasn't resolved.
It all gets a little interconnected as we hear from multiple POVs including that of Henry back in the past.
Throw in mystery DNA tests, the origins of which questionable, Christmas gifts, and you have one convoluted storyline which you really do have to have your wits about you reading. You also have to hold a LOT of confusing stuff in mind as you go as the story chops and changes a LOT as it meanders around and about on its way to resolution. And you do get resolution, so stick with it.
Apart from the one that just seems to fizzle out... or maybe I missed something there...
All in all, not the best book I have read by this author but I never contemplated sacking it off and had a lot of fun reading it, and it never dragged, so there's that! My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book.

I have always enjoyed books by Lisa Unger. This one was not in my top 5. An enjoyable mystery but I really couldn't connect with the characters. I felt bad for Mako's wife. Thank you, NetGalley, for the opportunity to read this.

Unfortunately this was a DNF at 20%. I did not jive with the characters or storyline. The focus on parent and marriage was not the trope for me.

Lisa Unger has easily become one of my favorite authors since she is able to create some amazing pieces of thriller/mystery. She created story around the idea of forced locked-room mystery/thriller, which can be a hit or miss from the ones that I have read already from other authors.

This story is something that someone needs to go into not knowing much about because the suspense and hidden motives that are behind the characters. I will say that some of the storylines are not really resolved or important to the overall storyline so if you aren't a fan of extra things happening throughout the story than this one might not be for you. Although, I do not mind some extra aspects so I enjoyed this book and what Lisa Unger brought forth in the storyline.

I gave this story a 3.5 to a 4 star novel.
