So, I really did enjoy this. Although some things were a bit predictable, I really enjoyed the story, the writing & how the author tied everything together. I would definitely recommend this for anyone who is a fan of domestic thrillers and I will be checking out more Lisa Unger books after this!

Unger’s newest book came across rather cheesy. With a host of devious characters, all with secrets, it was hard to figure out if there was anyone worth rooting for. With characters that lacked depth and with several scenes that could trigger, this book just wasn’t what it could have been. Premise was good, but book didn’t deliver. Thank you to Harlequin and NetGalley for an ARC of this book.

I wish it could be a glowing review but sadly-It.is.not! The plot sounded great and I was excited to dive into this one. That being said.... What in the world?! What a hot mess of a read this was for me. It was so confusing at times keeping up with the multitude of characters and story lines and flashbacks, that I cared nothing about at all. Big let down all around for me.

Three couples decide to get away to a secluded cabin for a relaxing weekend. Things appear to be tense among the guests and then a snowstorm block all exits. One person goes missing, leaving a bloody bed behind. While a search begins secrets are exposed and everyone's lives are in danger.
This book had me hooked, the tension of trying to figure out what was going on kept me thinking about this book when I had to put it down. What an enjoyable roller coaster ride this story was, it gave me chills.

Could not put down, in fact I had another book I was reading when this ARC came through that I stopped reading altogether to devote more time to reading this one.

Love how the identity of multiple characters was kept secret until the final chapters so you could not guess who was the “bad guy” and the ending answered all the questions and revealed the red herrings that Lisa Unger wove into the story.

Highly recommend if you enjoy suspenseful thrillers.

I wanted to like this one. There were too many POVs for me to keep track, and I felt like some characters weren't necessary to introduce. Between that and the going back and forth between past and present... it got to be too complex to really keep up with enough to stay entertained.

A luxury getaway with the best of friends - what could be better? Hannah asks herself this very questions as she and her loving, handsome husband make their way to the beautiful secluded brilliance of Oregon. Though Hannah is wary of leaving her precious infant daughter for the first time, she doesn't want to offend the generosity of her brother who is ponying up for the big event. Little do they all know of the secrets each of them harbor. And the secrets that lie within the vary walls of the home they are staying in.

A whirlwind of secret lives and untold truths, this is a story that will keep the reader guessing until the very end.

What I thought would just be a run of the mill story was actually so much different than I expected. The characters although flawed were very interesting and like most of us not perfect. It was a brilliant story the way it came together to explain the relationship between them . I would highly recommend this book to my audience. Definitely 5 stars from me

SYNOPSIS: 3 couples rent a luxury cabin in the woods for a getaway to DIE for in this chilling locked-room thriller.

🏚REVIEW: I’m gonna keep this short and sweet: this thriller was just okay. I really enjoy locked-room mysteries, so I was definitely in my wheelhouse. The concept of the three couples stranded in a remote cabin with no help made for a good outline and I really enjoyed the creepiness factor there. However, when it came to the ultimate execution and ending, everything was a little bonkers. It just was too preposterous and unbelievable to end up the way that it did.

I enjoyed the ride; not so much the end.

🏚VERDICT: 3.5 STARS ⭐️⭐️⭐️✨

Thank you Legend Press and @netgalley for my copy!

I think Lisa Unger is one of those authors that is hit or miss for me, and unfortunately this one was a little more of a miss. It wasn’t bad, but it didn’t really grab my interest and I had to push myself to get through it. I love when books are told from multiple character’s perspectives which this one did, but I almost felt like it was too much. There were some characters whose stories I didn’t really need to know to be honest. The mystery wasn’t too mysterious and I didn’t find it particularly thrilling. I do really like the idea which goes back to nature vs nurture. I also really like that it throws some shade at the DNA sequencing craze and highlights some potential dangers.

Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six is a twisty thriller set in the deep woods with a lot of family dynamics and drama thrown in. You're left guessing the entire novel, although I did personally find the plot to have a lot of moving parts which were hard to track, and things to move slowly. This is a very cerebral novel in a sense that lots of the action is either in the past or inside the character's heads - so much so that you sometimes lose the present happenings. Overall the setting was super creepy, which was so integral to the story and the general feeling of the novel - and a piece I really enjoyed.

A twisty mystery, with a side of weird genetics & ethical dilemmas. The setting of this one felt off to me - it fell flat. The character you're meant to suspect as the villain throughout was a bit too obvious. Overall, the characters were very two-dimensional and had almost no depth, so it was hard to get attached to any of them. It's a pretty flooded genre, so this wouldn't be the first book I'd reach for.

Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six was an entertaining ride involving a DNA test, family secrets, and of course, a cabin in the woods. Told in alternate points of view and timelines, we follow the stories of Hannah and her family, and Henry, as well as some bonus characters in Bracken and Trina.

About a third of the way through I thought I had the plot figured out, but I didn’t quite guess everything. This book felt reminiscent of One by One by Ruth Ware, but with some additional side plots tied in.

I found this to be a good read, though it took me longer than usual to get sucked in. I would recommend this to fans of Lisa Jewell, Ruth Ware, and Liane Moriarty. This was a solid thriller.

REVIEW

Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six ~ Lisa Unger

READ IF:
* You’re more for the mountains than the beach.
* You make excuses for your siblings.
* A locked-in thriller is your vibe.

SUMMARY: New mom Hannah is ready to get away so when her brother Mako proposes a couples getaway to a cabin in the woods, she is down! A private chef, hot tub, her husband and best friend, breath-taking views - it’s more than she could have ever asked for but it doesn’t take long for the mood to turn.

A storm hits the area leaving them stuck and it’s when the pressure rises inside the cabin that Hannah soon realizes that danger might be closer than she ever thought.

REVIEW: Meh. Just meh. I didn’t love it and I didn’t hate it. Told in multiple storylines, I found that I was more eager to read about some characters, meanwhile other perspectives were totally unnecessary and left unresolved at the end. I figured out who did it before the end, which I don’t really mind, but I think speaks to the thin plot and limited character development. Felt very Lifetime thriller movie to me.

Not mad I read it but don’t think I’ll be shouting from the rooftops to recommend to anyone anytime soon.

I struggled with this one, I found it very slow and hard to understand what was going to happen and how some of the characters were linked. It all made sense towards the end but it was a little too late for me as it put me off the book, although I did continue to read till the end.

I guessed the plot twist!!! Oh no! This book would have gotten a way higher rating had I not clued in to the ending by page 20. Maybe it’s a me problem.😂 I did enjoy how fast paced this one was. Some of the POVs I preferred over others. I think that’s pretty normal though. Even though I guessed the ending, I did think the twist was original and very different than typical thriller arcs. The setting was great too and made this a “cozy” read.

4.5 stars. I loved this novel, a twisty, fast-paced story, written in an easy to read style. Effectively told from several points of view that at first seem unrelated but which come together well as the plot unfolds. The story builds to an exciting ending and a great epilogue. There were one or two plot points which were not strictly speaking necessary but they did serve as useful red herrings and contributed to the atmosphere of the story.

As well as being a great thriller, this novel touches upon deeper themes of family - are they who we are related to or those we chose? Are our behaviours driven by genetics or environment? I read this in a day and a half and was engaged throughout. Really, really good!!

Thanks to Legend Press and Netgalley for this ARC. All opinions are my own.

Three couples rent a ritzy secluded cabin for the weekend in this suspenseful read from Lisa Unger. Mako and Hannah are siblings, and they go on a weekend retreat with their respective spouses, Hannah’s best friend Cricket, and Cricket’s boyfriend. The weekend should be relaxing- a private chef to make their meals, a hot tub, plenty of alcohol and illicit gummies. However, a storm rolls through and cuts off their access to the road out, the power goes out, and their weekend away becomes a nightmare.

This book started off as a slow burn- lots of background information, some flashbacks to an additional character who doesn’t tie in to the main story at first, lots of inner turmoil from Hannah about leaving her baby for the weekend. It definitely picked up speed in the middle and became hard to put down as I was trying to piece together the clues of who these people were and how it would all come together. While I did figure out parts of the ending, it was still suspenseful and kept me wanting to read, The concept was unique, and the atmosphere and setting of the book are phenomenal. I was creeped out just thinking of being in this home away from everything and everyone!

Thank you to NetGalley and Legend Press for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

I thought this was ok. There were aspects that I enjoyed. I just thought the plot moved a little slowly and the characters were unlikeable. I understand that's part of the point though. I did really like the ending though! I would recommend this to a friend.

I loved the premise for this book and was very excited to get a copy. I've not read anything by Lisa Unger before, so had no expectations getting in. The first chapters introduce a family: Hannah (the sister), Mako (the brother), their parents, Bruce (Hannah's husband) and Liza (Mako's wife) at a family holiday gathering. Hannah is a new mom dealing with the anxieties that come with being a new parent, Bruce is a workaholic programmer, Mako is a successful tech entrepreneur and Liza is a yoga influencer. The evening ends on ominous note when they all receive an unexpected Christmas gift: DNA tests.

Hannah, Bruce, Mako and Liza then go off an a fancy weekend holiday, all expenses paid by Mako's insistence. They are joined by Cricket, Hannah's party-girl friend/ex-girlfriend of Mako and her new boyfriend Joshua. The house is an impressive cabin, so secluded they are unable to receive cell signal. When the storm arrives, things start going wrong very quickly.

This had all the ingredients of what I typically enjoy in a thriller. However, I found it hard to get through as there were so many different character perspectives, several of them taking the reader away from what was going on in the cabin, and some flashbacks which I'm not sure were all really necessary to help propel the story. The ending tidied everything up okay with a somewhat unclear message about family and what we inherit. While I was very intrigued at the start, the middle and the ending were somewhat underwhelming. Overall though, I enjoyed the atmospheric setting most, and the characters (their lack of depth with exception of Hannah) the least.

Thanks Netgalley for a copy of this read in exchange for my honest review.
