It has been some time since I last read a closed door thriller. I liked the premise, the tech company, the genetics component, and the friends/family traveling to the remote secluded cabin for time together and a break.

Then it got complicated and confusing. There were A LOT of characters in this story and it became difficult to track how one was tied to the other. Sometimes in the present, sometimes in the past across multiple characters, it was difficult to feel fully invested in anyone. The characters were hard to like, making it impossible to really cheer for anyone.

This story throws a lot at you, but in the end it’s about a family trying to reckon with their roots. Are there genetic markers that result in some people becoming monsters and not others? If there were and you could stop it, what lengths would you go to protect others?

I'll be honest, you had me at a new Lisa Unger book is now available! I love the author and the thrills she provides through her books. Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six will give you plenty of thrills and guesses at who is doing what, but you most likely will be wrong. The book opens at Christmas 2017 with a family celebrating. Hannah and Bruce are new parents to a nine month old daughter, Gigi and Hannah's brother, Mako is there with his wife Liza. As dinner is finished, the Dad, Leo says there's one more gift behind the tree. The gift was an Origins DNA test kit for everyone in the family. The weird thing is no one would admit to being the gift giver! Some said they were going to throw there's away, some were excited, and some wondered why anyone would buy this? Later that evening Mako starts teasing Hannah about a trip he has planned for them in June. He's paid for a luxurious getaway at a remote cabin with a personal chef, masseuse, and hot tub. Mako is paying for the entire trip as a birthday present for Hannah. Mako thinks Hannah might back out because she doesn't want to leave Gigi. The trip is for Hannah and Bruce, Mako and Liza, and Cricket and Joshua. Cricket has been best friends with Hannah since they were little and dated Mako off and on before he met Liza. An adults only weekend, so Gigi will be watched by Bruce's mom.

Once it's time to pack for the trip, Hannah has reservations about going. Bruce has been acting a bit distant and she doesn't want to leave Gigi. Luckily, she has an app on her cell phone that will show Gigi through cameras around the house. Hannah decides to go knowing she'll be able to see Gigi that way and she feels very confident in Bruce's mom. Mako and Liza are the first to arrive at the cabin. They can't get over how big it is and the beautiful views it has. There's also a guest house behind the main house if you had others coming. They don't plan on using anything but the main house which sleeps six. Bracken is the owner of the cabin and several others that are in the general area. He seems a bit off. What is his story and what is he hiding?

When all three couples arrive they settle in and start to relax. Unfortunately, Liza gets a terrible migraine upon arrival and feels very sick. She blames it on the IVF treatments that she's had as she and Mako want to have a child. She excuses herself at dinner and goes to lie down. As the chef and his assistant are preparing and serving the meal he tells them about the tragedy that occurred at a the cabin. A family had been murdered and some say they still see a ghost of the mom looking for the children.

The book is told from different timelines with Hannah, Cricket, and Mako as well as people you're not sure how they fit in named Trina, Henry, Piper, and Catrina. Bracken the owner of the cabin tells the group about a bad storm moving in. He assures them that even if the power goes out, the generator will kick in within a minute or two. The roads sometimes wash out and are unpassable, so he warns them to stay inside if it gets bad. They have his phone number to call in an emergency. What could go wrong, right? How well does Hannah know her husband, Bruce? He seems to hate her brother Mako even though he has worked with him before. Hannah begins to question how well she knows her brother Mako. Why is he flirting with Cricket when his wife is upstairs and Cricket's new boyfriend Joshua is at the cabin? Why does Joshua look so familiar to Hannah? He says they've never met!

This book will have you hooked and you'll enjoy every moment! I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it. I rated it 5 stars and have already told friends and family to read it. I'd like to thank NetGalley and Legend Press for an advanced copy of Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six in exchange for a fair review.

I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I was super excited when I received the email I was approved for this arc, I couldn’t wait to get started. Once I did though it felt really slow. It took me longer to read than a typical book would. About two thirds in, the book did pick up and the story concept is clever and fascinating. The book is written from multiple perspectives which really helped with strong character building. I would recommend this book to anyone that likes slow-burn thrillers. 3.5/5 rounding to 4.

This was a thrilling novel; both the location and the actions of the characters were psychologically twisted. I really enjoyed the chapters from different character perspectives. We see the same events from alternating points of view which adds to the tension. Throughout the novel I was really interested in finding out how Henry’s story would intersect with the three couples that are at the secluded cabin. The chapters from the house owner’s perspective (Bracken) were a little confusing and took away from the main plot; I expected him to have a bigger reveal at the end so his chapters fell a little flat.
I love Unger’s writing, she draws you into the book so you can’t stop reading until you know how the ending plays out. As Unger says in her acknowledgements, only a really twisted writer (in the best way) would be on vacation with her family and see the seclusion as the prime location for a suspense novel!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.

"Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six" is an entertaining thriller that keeps you guessing through to the end. This book is fast-paced and intelligently written and although the "characters are very flawed, it brings humanity and thus, compassion, to each of their storylines.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book, in exchange for an honest review.

A family get away. A secluded luxury cabin. What could go wrong?

Great thriller!
The little nuggets of info that were drip fed throughout the story which led to the reveal were very intriguing. For the life of me I couldn’t piece it all together, although I’m sure many others could! Really quite different to most other books of a similar nature.
I really enjoyed reading this one and would definitely recommend.

Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six and all 6 six harbor secrets...but which secret is big enough that someone wants to murder 1 or all 6 guests?!?! Lisa Unger will keep you questioning till the end! Who's unfaithful? Who's scamming? Who's in the other cabin on the property? What is the shady owner of the cabins capable of doing?

Unger builds a great cast of characters and you won't be able to put this book down till you have the answers to all these questions! I thought it was a great build up throughout, some things were predictable but there were plenty of surprises! This is my favorite Lisa Unger book to date and if you enjoy thrillers, this should definitely be added to your to be read pile!

Thoughts: thank you so much @netgalley and @parkrowbooks for the advanced copy which came out last week! I loved this one, it definitely made me think twice about booking an Airbnb for my next trip 😂the characters were crazy and the twists were all over the place with this one! It was super enjoyable! My only issue is that it was formatted strangely on net galley so it was kind of difficult to follow (chapters and pages ending mid page, giant spaces between some words, etc) but that was more of a ebook formatting issue than one of the author! I definitely want to read more by Lisa Unger, this was a very fun locked room mystery!

Michael, his wife, sister, brother-in-law, ex girlfriend and her new boyfriend go to a beautiful cabin in Georgia to spend a few days. Michael (also called Mako) is a tech millionaire so no expense was spared. But when family and ex’s are all together, relaxing might not be what happens. A quick enjoyable read.

3.5 stars (because there were some parts that were a little dumb or unnecessary), but rounding up to 4 (because overall, I really rather enjoyed the story)!

It keeps you guessing, even though it’s a little predictable, about how everyone is ACTUALLY linked. You know that they are, but figuring out exactly how is what kept me turning the page. While the ending was a little too clean — BUT ALSO a bit messy in some aspects (i.e. why who did what they did, what some of the characters were even there for in the end, etc. - IYKYK, and if you don’t, then you just gotta read it to understand what I mean by saying it was both a clean AND messy ending) — it was still an entertaining one.

All in all, a pretty solid thriller/mystery from Lisa Unger and I look forward to reading more of her books! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review!

Thank you @netgalley, @legendpress and @harperaudio for the written and audio ARC of Lisa Unger's latest book.

This was my first time reading/listening to a book and I'm here for it! I found myself gravitating more towards the audio format, but I think that's just because it was more fast paced.

I wouldn't say that I loved the narrator, but she didn't make me want to join the characters in the secluded cabin, so there is that.

I thought there was pretty good character development and the story had potential. The whole family meets in a secluded location with all their secrets and suspense can still be a solid read, even though a touch overused. However, once the mystery started to unravel here, it was too out there for me.

I'm not sure if this is Unger's style, so if you've read anything else by her, let me know.

Liked it, didn't love it.

Thank you NetGalley for letting me read this in exchange for an honest opinion. I’d give this book 3.75/5. It was a good, entertaining read. The whole book I kept wondering where the author was going with the different stories going on and I really liked how it all came together in the end. I’d recommend this book.

Sadly, this wasn’t for me.. There was just too much POVs and unlikeable, bland characters. I was intrigued in the beginning, but lost interest right away. The plot was underwhelming and not thrilling enough. Most of the characters here should have been cut out. Overall I did not enjoy it. It was messy and a bit boring and anticlimactic in my opinion.

Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six
By Lisa Unger

You’d think by the title it would be Ruth Ware meets Shari Lapena and in comes with a massive twist, Freida McFadden.

(Yes my fav thrill authors… imagine if they collaborated! 😱)

It had all the promise by the title, cover and blurb. Unfortunately there was was no follow through.

It took some weird turns, some side story that basically took over, and too many characters. I get the cabin sleeps six but when we have to know all 42 players, it’s hard.

⭐️⭐️/5

But the cover is nice!

I'm a big fan of groups in a remote location and mysterious deaths, so I was very excited to read this one.

In this case, there were 3 couples who go to a secluded cabin for a weekend getaway. Obviously, the relaxation doesn't go as planned, as someone is watching them.

I've had some mixed results with Lisa Unger's books and there were a few areas that dragged a little, but I definitely wanted to see the resolution, so I stuck with it and I'm glad I did. There were some fun surprises at the end.. Overall, it was a fun read.

Thank you to NetGalley for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six, by Lisa Unger, is a captivating, page-turning, locked room thriller that you won’t want to set down. The story is set at a remote, luxury cabin for a family get-away, at the insistence and generosity of the charismatic, well-to-do brother, Mako. Family members are reticent to attend, for various reasons, but family means a great deal and it’s always so hard to say no to Mako. But there are a lot of family secrets, and someone is forcing them into light with an agenda of their own!

This is a compelling novel, but there are admittedly, a lot of characters and two distinct plot lines to keep track of. There are a few plot holes that are left unfilled, but most things tie-together by the conclusion. Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six is a whirlwind of a story with lots twists, turns, surprises and explosive events or reveals, all interspersed amongst characters’ backstories. There are characters to repulse or frustrate you, and a smattering of fantastical, over-the-top elements that make for a wild ride. I think I got it all, mostly, but this thriller was entertaining, nonetheless.

Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six is the story of three couples who go on a getaway to a very secluded cabin in the middle of the woods for a weekend. The three couples have very interesting relationships to each other-ranging from family to friends to ex-lovers. Things at the cabin start out great, with a personal chef making them dinner, but quickly strange events begin happening.

I really enjoyed reading this newest thriller by Lisa Unger. It was a quick read, and kept me turning pages to find out what was going to happen next. I really enjoyed the complicated relationships between the characters.

I highly recommend this book if you like secluded, stuck in one place murder mysteries.

Thank you to the author, the publisher and NetGalley for allowing me to read this book before it was published.

Three couples rent a luxury cabin in the woods for a weekend getaway to die for in this atmospheric and gripping locked-room thriller by New York Times bestselling author Lisa Unger.
What could be more restful, more restorative, than a weekend getaway with family and friends? Especially in an isolated luxury cabin in the woods, complete with spectacular views, a hot tub and a personal chef. The reviews are stellar.
But a deadly storm is brewing. The owner seems just a little too present. The chef reveals that the beautiful house has a spine-tingling history. And the guests have their own complicated pasts, with secrets that run blood deep. The perfect weekend is about to turn into a nightmare.
Really enjoyable read totally recommend

Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six is a thriller about 6 couples made up of friends, family, and a new boyfriend, along with a watcher in the woods, and the landlord set at a remote cabin during a nasty storm. Everyone’s lives unravel as secrets are revealed.

The author does a great job of taking the time to introduce each character but because of that it took a long time to get interested in the story. I did enjoy how each chapter was from a different character’s point of view but it was hard to keep up with everyone’s idiosyncrasies and the caretaker of the property was completely unnecessary to the story. I was the most compelled by Henry’s chapters than Hannah’s POV who is established early on as the main narrator. Honestly, none of the characters are terribly likable. There were so many plot points that felt unnecessary or dragged out that the payoff at the end didn’t make it worth it. The climax of the story felt weak and rushed in comparison to the slow burn and overwhelming sins of each character leading up to the end.

Thank you to Legend Press for this ARC via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I was hoping for so much more from this book, but it just fell short. Although I finished the.book I had the plot line figured out when a certain character got introduced into the book and even though each chapter was from a different characters and different time line it didn’t fall into line until the last few chapters until it all caught up
I can’t say I warmed to any of the characters apart from Henry and west the rest of them I didnt care for. The ones you think would be nice and routing for had a dark secret and I can’t get my head around what they covered up. As for May, well I’m sorry you wouldn’t when you knew what a person did. Invite them to be with you and your child.
The suspense was not great and the whole ghost story line in it was pointless, and the last few chapters I wish I hadn’t read. As soon as it said my body getting higher and looking down I should have just put it away.
It wasn’t for my personal taste, a page turner, it didn’t leave me wanting more, if anything I just wanted to get it finished.
