Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six by Lisa Unger is a very highly recommended locked-room thriller with a tension-filled secret that could be fatal.

Three couples are going to spend a weekend at a secluded luxury cabin in the North Georgia woods. Hannah and Bruce need a break but both accept the invitation with some trepidation. Hannah doesn't want to leave their baby daughter and Bruce, a workaholic, would feel better if they were paying for their share of the cabin. Hannah's older brother, Mako, has planned and paid for the whole weekend. One benefit for Hannah will be the opportunity to strengthen her connection with Liza, Mako's wife. The third couple is a long-time, close family friend, Cricket, and her new boyfriend, Joshua.

What could possibly go wrong. The cabin is a beautifully appointed accommodation, but is also extremely isolated. The owner and host, Bracken, seems a bit odd, and the private chef seems to delight in sharing the ghost stories associated with the area. The Wi-Fi is unreliable. To add to the anxiety and sense of impending danger is a real storm that is forecast to hit the area and will surely isolate them completely.

This is a compelling, complex novel that held my attention throughout. The tension rises slowly, doubts are introduced carefully, the atmosphere seems to become increasingly disturbing with every page. Unger has carefully plotted this narrative. It opens with a family gathering which sets in place the beginning of the tension and drama. Then this suspense is allowed to grow into fruition.

The narrative is told mainly through Hannah's point-of-view, but we also hear from Liza, Cricket, Bracken, and then three characters whose connection to this plot doesn't materialize immediately, mainly Henry, but also Trina, and Cat. The characters are all fully realized individuals and very different from each other.

The writing is excellent, intelligent, and absolutely riveting. Both main story lines, through Hannah's and Henry's points-of-view, are equally interesting, engrossing, and very different. Part of the appeal is trying to predict where, when, and how these story lines will connect and collide. When the direction becomes clear, it is gripping, twisty, and un-put-downable. This is a wonderfully executed locked-room thriller.

This book was OK but the way the chapters jumped around made it hard to follow at times. The plot was good a bit predictable but held my attention. The ending was a bit drawn out. All in all a good story worth reading.

Thriller set in secluded cabin in woods with three couples. Kept me guessing until the end. Author is very descriptive and makes you feel on edge not knowing what is going to happen next. Enjoyed it !

My thanks to Legend Press, Lisa Unger and Netgalley.
I'll admit that this story had one convoluted storyline, but it was entertaining as hell!
I've not read much from Unger, but what I've read, I've really enjoyed.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley. It was one of my highly anticipated releases and was thrilled to finally be approved! The thing is…I’m just not sold on it.

Don’t get me wrong, this is a fine book. There’s plenty of mystery but I feel like the conclusion became obvious very quickly and this really took away from any “wow” or “shock” factor that could have been present at the end.

It’s definitely a whole mess, which is good for books of this type. You don’t want a clean cut thriller, you want a mess. While it does produce the mess, I felt like it told me the ending - and it did it early - which made it feel super long and harder to really connect to anyone.

I don’t know. I think I’m just disappointed. I still recommend it, it’s more than readable but I won’t be rushing out to add it to my physical collection.

The premise of this book was so interesting. 3 couples rent a cabin in the woods for a luxurious getaway. The cabin is isolated with spotty wi-fi. The cabin's location also has an ominous history. Everyone is keeping secrets which turns this relaxing weekend into a nightmare. The plot and setting are extremely creepy.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of POV's to keep track of, some of them that don't really make sense. All of them have secrets which make them extremely unlikable, so it's hard to really care if any of these characters die. This author is a little hit and miss with me, and this one just didn't work IMO.

This is hands down my favorite Lisa Unger novel yet!

I am a sucker for locked room mystery.

I will say this plot was numerous overly done plots all mixed into 1. This could have been flop but I think it actually worked really well for this book. I was enthralled with each of the 6 locked in the cabin. I love a good family drama. Tell me all the secrets.

And boy oh boy, this book had a lot of secrets.

I am also FASCINATED by the new DNA technology coming out. Finding serial killers and long lost siblings. Like WHAT!

From start to finish Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six was thrilling and suspenseful I loved the multiple plots which had me guessing the whole way. The setting was meant to be peaceful but it had a creepy feel through the entire story. I definitely didn’t see the ending coming until the very end. I loved it. I can't wait to read more books by this author - this was the first one I have read.

A suspenseful novel focusing on DNA/ancestry tests, the complications surrounding them, and secrets uncovered.

Do you find out secrets? Complicated pasts ? How much does everyone really care for each other?
I have read a few of Lisa anger novels and enjoy them all.
Fast paced, full of twists and turns. I could not put this one down.

For 98% of the book, I didn't like the characters at all, BUT there was something that kept me reading and even though I was dissatisfied with the ending, I'm kind of glad I finished it.

The biggest issue with this book was the multiple threads that ended up connecting but felt too convenient, rushed and messy. Leading up to the end, the different threads and characters' dialogue made the book convoluted and hard to follow. Some of the POVs were so jarring it was like it was a different book at times. The only character that was somewhat redeemable is Henry, as I liked his story and how he developed. But how he was introduced affected the overall enjoyment.

Everything else was too out of place, the characters too unlikable (I can handle unlikable characters as long as it makes sense of the story), and their unlikeness made it difficult for me to get into the atmosphere. As well, since there were multiple POVs, I found that there was a decent amount of repetition that dragged the story.

Overall, I gave this 2 stars because even though it took a lot in me to keep going, I was interested in seeing how the threads connected.

A group of friends heads to a much neededweekend getaway at a cabin but they never could have guessed what awaited them there. Three couples and who will make it out. Our first couple a serious but brilliant man and his stay at home mom to one baby girl who are needing to reconnect. Our second couple a newly dating couple and best friend to brother and sister in other couplings. Our last power couple. A yoga instructor with a secret to hide and a tech mogul who needs a reality check and gets away with whatever he wants.
The story follows these couples as they arrive at the cabin and the mysterious strangers who appear.
I give this book a 3.5. It was an interesting idea but I felt there were parts added in that were unnecessary and would have been better spent taking time with other developments. Rounded up to 4 stars.

Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six is a psychological thriller about three couples who vacation in a luxury cabin in the woods of Georgia. With the threat of a hurricane, hidden motives come to light, affairs are revealed, and a dark secret is unearthed, culminating in murder.

Lisa Unger always brings the thrills! This one has a DNA and genealogy angle and I am here for it!

When does a relaxing weekend turn into a locked room mystery? When everyone is lying and covering up their bad deeds.

Family is complicated enough without finding out you are part of a large group of half-siblings conceived with sperm donors. In Thrillers, sperm donors are notoriously evil so this should be fun.

Hannah and Bruce are coming, as well as Hannah’s brother and his wife along with her best friend and her man of the hour. But no one seems particularly excited by it. Especially Hannah’s husband, Bruce, who is hiding something, but what?

Tech moguls are usually pretty intense, and Hannah’s brother, Mako, is no exception. Everyone is acting strange. None more so than their host who is watching it all from hidden cameras and I wish the storyline would have explored that more. It seemed to be a red herring that we didn’t need.

Also coming is a giant storm, which adds to the spooky ambiance. Not only do the guests have backgrounds, but so does the house!

When the power goes out and people start to disappear, Hannah isn’t sure if she can trust her brother or her husband.

There were more than enough plot lines and I almost forgot some of the characters’ real names. There have been quite a few thrillers lately using the DNA plotline. I didn’t see the motivation for the killings unless the person is mentally ill. I would have liked to see that explored more.

This one wasn’t my favorite, but you know I’ll be in line for the next one!

I have enjoyed Lisa Unger's books in the past, and am happy to read and review Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six. In this novel a group of friends head off for a remote weekend getaway. The accommodations are gorgeous, but slightly creepy, and are rented out by an eccentric caretaker and host. The book tells the events from many perspectives, keeping some information hidden and slowly revealing details and secrets of each character. I don't want to provide any spoilers, but I will say that the twist at the end was unexpected and fresh-one I have not seen before. I'm giving four stars because once all was revealed it all felt a little implausible, but darn it, it was fun. Thanks to the author and publisher for sharing this book with me via NetGalley.

The story sounds so promising, and I would say that it really had a good plot. The only thing that I didn't like was the several POVs. There's a lot of the readers and that makes it really hard to remember which one is which. All in all it was a good who done it book.

This is different than i expected as its more of a slow burner. It starts off with a really interesting premise but then it drifts off slightly. Maybe its the book mood im in but i wanted something that had me hooked from the first page.

3.5 stars

A Luxury secluded cabin, three couples, a chance to get away and relax sounds like a dream; until it becomes a nightmare!

I loved books with a trapped vibe/feeling to them. The stranded feeling where you can't get out and must do what it takes to survive. Will Mother nature make things harder for them than the individual who is watching them? I loved the setting of this book and the creepy vibe of the cabin owner. With three couples there are plenty of antics, and information on past histories between them. It soon becomes evident that not all the characters are likeable, and all are hiding something (some characters are sharing quite a few things). Everyone and their brother have secrets in this book! Enter DNA tests stage left...…

Was this my favorite book by Unger? No, I still have a special place in my reading heart for Ink and Bone by Unger, but I did enjoy this one. I enjoyed being privy to the POV of various characters. They are not the group of people that I would want to go on a luxury cabin vacation with.

Also enjoyed you-think- you-know-your-friends (or brother) but do you? Who is watching them? What secrets does that individual have? Will they make is out of the weekend unscathed? One needs to read to find out.

I enjoyed the mystery and the atmosphere in this book. This book read like a made for TV movie and that is a compliment. It is entertaining and has the mystery of who is the stranger amongst them. Unger created characters that readers will not like but yet, readers will want to know what happens to them. Readers become invested in their secrets and the reveal in this book. There are some twists and turns which were nicely done and I Loved how they played out.

Thank you to Legend Press and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.

This book has a great synopsis and hook, and I was super excited to read it. I love atmospheric thrillers, and the setting of this one is to die for. There's nothing quite like a secluded woodsy setting with a few untrustworthy, secretive characters. And some of those characters are fleshed out really well, with complex moral layers and shades of gray that I really enjoyed reading about. But... the rest fell a bit flat. There are so many characters that it felt like most of them were purposefully left two-dimensional, for simplicity's sake. Also, the plot was... disjointed, is the best way I can describe it, and not in a fun "twists and turns" sort of way. It felt almost like the author decided to go a different way with the plot halfway through. It isn't a bad plot by any means, but like the characters, it feels like another facet with a lot of potential that wasn't fully realized.

This was so much more than I expected. It's a complicated mystery with flawed characters. It's full of twists and a load of suspense. I was glued to the pages as I couldn't guess what was coming next. I really liked how the author blended everything together and gave the reader a very satisfying conclusion.
