Event planner Hallie Goodman accidentally gets sent personal diary videos from her client's ex-fiancé, an astronaut who was on the ISS. Though she knows it's wrong, she can't stop watching the charismatic man in space. Captain Chris Ortiz has been putting his late brother's dreams before his own. Now back on Earth, he's struggling to find his place in the world. When he starts receiving video replies from Hallie, he finds himself needing to know her more.

Both Hallie and Chris are kindred spirits in many ways: both dealing with long seated family issues; and are often wracked with insecurities. My heart broke for Chris on several occasions: from his grief to his PTSD. What I loved most about him was his humility. Hallie felt authentic from the start. I empathised immediately with her clumsy encounters because I'm also THAT person. The people-pleasing was painful to read at times, but I ADORED Chris's compassion and steadying influence on her. Their chemistry was palpable from the beginning and I loved the development of their relationship, even the conflict, though it was emotional. I also loved Chris's Aunt Richelle's wisdom, and Althea's humour.

I really loved this book, although I don't think I was quite prepared for how emotional it would make me. It's a much deeper story than simple star-crossed lovers, and deals with complex issues such as bereavement, grief, abandonment, disconnect from cultural heritage, and even the existential questions of what is our place in the world. My nerdy brain also loved all the NASA and STEM aspects. An absolutely gorgeous read with THE most swoon-worthy male lead.
P.S. Derek deserves his own story 😉

Overall Rating: ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Heat Rating: 🔥🔥
Emotional Rating: 🙈😂💓😢🥰😢💔😍💖

Synopsis: When event planner Hallie Goodman receives party-inspiration material from the bride of her latest wedding project, the last thing she expects to find is a collection of digital videos from Darcy’s ex-boyfriend. Hallie knows it’s wrong to keep watching these personal videos, but this guy is cute, funny, and an astronaut on the International Space Station to boot. She’s only human. And it’s not long until she starts sending e-mails and video diaries to his discontinued NASA address. Since they’re bouncing back, there’s no way anyone will ever be able to see them...right?

Christopher Ortiz is readjusting to life on earth and being constantly in the shadow of his deceased older brother. When a friend from NASA’s IT department forwards him the e-mails and video messages Hallie has sent, he can’t help but notice how much her sense of humor and pink hair make his heart race.

Separated by screens, Hallie and Chris are falling in love with each other, one transmission at a time. But can they make their star-crossed romance work when they each learn the other’s baggage?

Well this is my first mini review of an ARC thank you for a copy NetGalley for my honest review. I've really enjoy this book. Going in blind, I had no idea what it was about. I've enjoyed the dual POV and love the dynamics between Chris & Hallie. It was a cozy read and a defo feel good. There was a hint of spice but was not a main focus. For a friend's to lovers story, it made me feel fuzzy and content, I love Captain Ortiz. Samantha writing was wonderful and made this a very easy read, the plot was enjoyable and the epilogue was exactly what I needed! I cannot wait to read more books by Samantha.

A wonderfully sweet story full of quirky funny incidents, friendship, passion and a soul deep understanding that only comes from finding the one person om earth, or space, that simply gets you and your oddness. Chris and Hallie are two very interesting characters that found each other under very unusual circumstances and felt a connection before they even set eyes om each other. An astronaut looking for his path forward and a people pleasing event planner no one takes seriously, atleast it feels that way to her. Together, if they trust each other and the love they have found they may just find the place they belong and the person that makes them better. A lovely out of this world story you won't want to put down!

A cosmic kind of love

I really adored this meet cute between astronaut Christopher Ortiz and event planner Hallie Goodman. It was such a sweet storyline and totally unique.

Despite being a relatively slow burn there's interaction, in sorts, right from the beginning and I really enjoyed the way this refreshing story line unfurled. Both main characters are mature and I really enjoyed the way they tackled any issues they had. There was a lot of growth from both characters, both together and on their own which I loved but still with bucket loads of chemistry and angst.

This was such an enjoyable read and I felt myself smiling throughout!

When event planner Hallie accidentally receives a series of personal videos recorded by astronaut Chris to his then girlfriend from aboard the International Space Station, she can't help but feel an instant connection. She sends videos in reply to a defunct email address, not realising that Chris is actually receiving them and is intrigued by her as well...

Firstly, I absolutely loathed Hallie. She is whiney and annoying and has zero backbone. She is initially portrayed as a massive klutz who constantly finds herself in ridiculous situations, but that only lasts a handful of pages before never being mentioned again. Chris is slightly better, but I don't really understand the point of making him an astronaut considering it is totally irrelevant to the plot the moment he sends the videos. If you're expecting a clever, space filled romance, definitely don't pick this one up.

I loved this book SO much. It was unique, quirky with the most loveable characters (I loooved Hallie SO much), and the pacing was perfection. It felt genuine and left me grinning. I'll definitely be looking out for more books from Samantha Young!

Hallie and Chris meet through his ex girlfriend, when Hallie is planning her engagement party. Loved both characters and that it is told from both points of view.

I love her books so much and I couldn’t pass the opportunity to read a new title in her standalone series.

The book promised a beautiful romance story with interesting characters, astronauts even, and some meddling parents. And that’s exactly what we get and more than that, actually.

The characters are so flawed and I love how reliable they still feel.

While their interactions made me shout out in the beginning, slowly they both realised that those feelings were not to be missed and their actions have to change.

The romance story is so beautiful, and steamy and exactly as I want it to be, just perfect.

From the meddling parents, to the social media pressure and the always supportive side characters.

One thing that I loved was when Hallie stood her ground in front of his father and she did not keep it quiet.

Communication is always important to me and it’s satisfying to see that they actually took time to say it all out when needed.

Beautiful, romantic and a must read story.

I was so intrigued amount the premise of this book; friends to lovers, astronaut romance……yes please.

This book was a little on the predictable side, but it was such a sweet read that it was easy to gloss over that. A perfect weekend read.

A Cosmic Kind of Love by Samantha Young was a really enjoyable romance; it was full wit and charm, but also dealt with some really significant issues. Additionally it’s the first romance I’ve read that has an astronaut for an MMC! 4.5 stars

A Cosmic Kind of Love is the story of Hallie and Chris. One day Hallie receives some inspiration material from one of her brides to be at the elite planning agency she works at in NYC. Amongst the files she finds video letters from her client’s ex from his time at the ISS. Hallie knows she shouldn’t be watching these videos and yet finds herself drawn to astronaut Chris. She sends a video message to his email only to find it bouncing back, yet she sends more using it as a diary outlet. Little does she know Chris is watching her videos just as she has his. What happens when these two meet, will their star crossed romance work, even in the face of all their baggage?

I think Hallie may just be one of my new favourite FMCs; the journey she went on through this novel was something else. Hallie is such a cool, sparky leading lady, and yet she struggles with people pleasing and the fact that those closest to her don’t take her seriously or take into account her feelings. She has a tricky relationship with her parents who are going through a messy divorce. Without giving anything away, the personal growth Hallie goes through is just amazing, I loved her story.

I also loved Chris as the MMC, I mean c’mon the man is an astronaut. But more than that he’s a genuinely good guy who is both humble and kind. He’s not without his faults, of course, and he too has a difficult parental relationship. Beyond the MCs there are a wonderful cast of supporting characters, notably Chris’ Aunt Richelle and Hallie’s best friend Althea who each offer great support to our MCs.

This is a romance, and the chemistry between Hallie and Chris didn’t disappoint. This is a glorious slow burn, with a friends to lovers build up that really lays the foundation of their relationship. In some ways you could consider this as insta-love but given the foundation they build it never once felt forced.

Overall this was a really enjoyable read, with a fun premise and a unique take on a first meet.

I’ve don’t remember ever reading a romance with an astronaut before so was intrigued and this book did not disappoint. I love Samantha Young’s books so was excited to read this.

They get to know each other through Hallie accidentally receiving videos sent from the ISS meant for Chris’ ex girlfriend. I wasn’t sure how this would work but it didn’t detract from the story and made for an interesting premise. Hallie responds with her own video replies, not knowing that Chris is actually receiving them. So they get to know each other before they meet in real life.

The story is a slow burning romance which is highly recommended and a wonderful romance.

Sometimes you see a book with an intriguing premise, but it just winds up falling flat. I wouldn’t say I was excited by A Cosmic Kind of Love, but it looked enjoyable. I wanted another romance to review, so I requested it from Piatkus. I was kindly gifted it on NetGalley, so I wish I could give a better review.

But by the end, I was just rolling my eyes.

Hallie is a successful event planner but in every other aspect of her life? She’s a mess. When she opens files from a client, she finds video messages sent to them from Christopher Ortiz about his life in space. Hallie is intrigued by him and winds up wanting to send a message back. But when it bounces, she decides to continue doing so. It won’t hurt to use them as a diary, right? Chris, on the other hand, is trying to get used to life back on earth. He doesn’t know what to do, and these videos start off as frustration. But he becomes curious about Hallie, and eventually, they meet.

I’m going to start by saying that I gathered there would be some kind of lying in this. That was obvious. My problem was with how easy they got over it. And then fell apart over other things. And then they were fixed just as easily as well!

It was ridiculous.

At no point was I reading this book intrigued by what was going to happen between them. It was too insta-attraction. Everything happened too quickly and honestly? The jealousy bugged the hell out of me. Maybe it’s because I wouldn’t want a jealous guy, but it was ugh.

What I did like was that this was the family dynamic. Both Hallie and Chris have toxic families. Neither parent was physically abusive but distant and controlling? Not there unless they want something? Yeah, that was very prevalent. If scenes like that are triggering for you, then avoid this book. Personally, though, it was the part of the story that interested me most. I wanted to see if things would get better or worse, and I wanted to know how the characters would handle their situation.

Overall though? I didn’t really like this book. Which sucked. I was enjoying it well enough for the first 100 pages, but the further in the book I got, the more I wanted to put it down. I only finished it as I decided I was too far in to DNF. By the time I was 250 pages in, I wanted to write this review. I just wasn’t enjoying the story anymore.

So, would I recommend this book? Probably not. If you like instaromance, jealousy and fast relationships.

A smorgasbord of sweet, smexy, lighthearted comedy with a dash of family angst!

Hallie has somehow acquired the title of goodtime girl. She works hard as an event planner but her warring parents just continue to disparage her profession and insert her into the middle of the divorce. Hallie has taken people pleasing to a new level and consistently gets walked all over!

Her new client, Darcy, comes from a powerful, wealthy family and is in the iddle of organising her extravagant engagement party. She accidentially sends Hallie the video diaries of her astronaut ex. Hallie knows she shouldn't be watching them but she feels such a pull towards Chris that she just can't seem to help herself.

Chris feels like such a fraud. He can't seem to give everything he needs to his NASA career, doesn't want to go back to the Air Force and feels a distinct lack of anger towards the way Darcy ended about engagement. When he's contacted by NASA about some videos he has been sent, he tells them to forward them. Now he's viewing Hallie's virtual diary, much like she watched his from space! He feels a bit of a heel but Hallie is such a breath of fresh air he can't help himself!

When Chris and Hallie finally meet the attraction is mutual but both are wary of throwing themselves into a new relationship with their relationship history. Both come up with excuses to see each other and eventually they give in to the attraction but the angst isn't quite over. Chris's father and Hallie's toxic family and ex don't seem to be willing to let them flourish!

Wonderfully emotion-filled story with humour, hot chemistry between the MC's, and fraught family ties. Chris's only real family is his aunt - who gives him everything his late mother would have - including tough love when it's needed. Similarly, Hallie's warring parents leave a lot to be desired and she relies on her bestie and her fiancee for love. Chris and Hallie may look a lot different and have different upbringings but they share a lot of values and have similar outlooks on life and that in turn makes their relationship that more realistic.

Such a unique book, I loved the plot and oh my god the characters we're so amazing!! I definitely will be recommending it!!

Thanks for my copy of this book. I was really excited for this one but something just didn’t click. I didn’t feel engaged in the story and found myself getting frustrated or annoyed with the characters more than anything.
I didn’t finish but would try another of her books.

This book is out of this world!

Hallie is an event planner who has plans for everything but the astronaut that comes into her life. When she accidentally sees Chris' videos from space that were meant for his ex girlfriend, she is more than a bit intrigued and unable to stop going back for more. Wanting to make it right she sends her own video to apologize which is never viewed or so she thinks.

Chris is an astronaut in need of direction in life, he has completed a life dream of going to space and helping with humanity, but he doesn't know what to do next. Hallie comes in to his life the right moment and maybe they can help each other.

As internet connection goes this one is very unique. I loved the way their relationship started before they even met, it was unexpected and lovely.

I have read a lot of romance books but this is the first time I read about an astronaut hero, that was so refreshing and informative. I especially enjoyed the description about life on space and the beautiful pictures the setting created.

Both Chris and Hallie were in need of some help each of them in a different way, Chris learned to follow his heart while Hallie stood up for herself and really grew through the book. I loved that for her.

The romance was incredible sweet and the slow burn really payed off as their chemistry could be seen from out of space.

I stayed up way too late to finish this book, the writing is totally addictive and I just couldn't stopped reading.

So sweet and fun. I had a lot fun reading this and will be reading more from this author as this was fantastic and so full of heart. I loved the two main characters a lot and just really liked the unconventional meet cute.

80% done and that was enough. I couldn’t do more. It was like my soul slowly dying of boredom.
But I give it some stars as I love author and this had so much potential which kinda died very quickly. Unfortunately for me as I normally enjoy this author.

This was super sweet and light hearted. I really liked the premise and was super exited to begin reading. Although I did like the book, I can't say it was my favourite. For some reason Hallie and Christopher sounded amazing in theory, but the execution fell short. Their relationship was low on chemistry and left something to be desired.

That being said, it was still a good book. Samantha Young writes very well. Even though this wasn't my exact cup of tea, I'm still looking forward to reading more by Young.

Thank you to the publisher for kindly providing me with an ARC via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
