2 things I wanted to get done today - finish this book and take down our tree. Finishing The Girlfriend took priority!

This was a fast paced domestic thriller and I thought I had it all figured out - but I didn’t. There was one plot that had me genuinely shocked! I will be checking out K.L. Slater’s backlist after this one.

The plot of this book pulled me in right away, and there were some interesting twists; ultimately, though, it was a pretty typical domestic thriller with a lot of the expected tropes, patterns, and reveals. I enjoyed the changing perspectives and did find that, generally, they helped to build suspense throughout the story. I wanted something I could enjoy without having to put too much heavy thought into it, and this entertaining read did provide what I hoped it would. I’m sure I’ll be checking out other books from this writer in the future.

I usually love this author but this one wasn't a win for me.

I loved a good psychological thriller, but there was nothing thrilling about this book. This was more of a family drama, with a little crime thrown in there. The writing was good, as it always is with this author but I felt like i has to suspend my beliefs for this book to work for me.

Also the MC was terrible, you are being pushed out of your house and you didn't contact a lawyer? Find a job, start making money to support your children? Just doesn't seem believable to me.

Jennifer knows the news is bad when two policemen are at the door. And indeed, her husband has been killed in a one car crash. As if this isn't bad enough, a woman shows up at her door with the news that she was her husband's mistress and had his baby son. And by the way, she owns the house Jennifer and her children are living in, and the husband's business.

Thus Jennifer enters an unconventional relationship with the girlfriend, where they both live in the house with their children. But as time passes, Jennifer begins to wonder, could the girlfriend have had a role in her husband's death?

I found this a fast paced and interesting read. I would rate it 3.5 stars, but I'll give a 4 as it really held my interest.

First off, Thank you to Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!

My oh my did I enjoy this one! I have been on almost non-stop thriller binge this year! And this one did not disappoint.

What I did enjoy:
- first off this is very well written! The pacing was also great
- I was on my toes the whole time trying to figure this one out!
- The twists I did not see coming at all!

Overall, I really enjoyed this read! I am looking forward to checking out more of the authors books! 4 stars out of 5

Shocked when a woman appears on her doorstep claiming to be her husbands girlfriend carrying a baby she says is his son . As usual the story is twisty and brilliantly written . Highly recommended

Really enjoyed this book, great twist on the usual ‘ my husband has had an affair’ storyline and working out what has happened to each of the characters and their involvement with the plot (and wider plot) got me guessing (wrongly) a few times.

Lots of characters to get to grips with and work out complicated relationship angles - I chewed through this quickly and enjoyed it.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book. #TheGirlfriend

K.L. Slater is either a hit or a miss for me - there seems to be no in between.

This one was not my favorite. When I came back to write this review, I actually forgot the plot of the entire book...oops.

This family is seriously MESSY. I liked the drama, I liked the multiple POVs, I just didn't love the story.

I'll keep picking up K.L. Slater books because when they work for me, they are deliciously good.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“I’ll do anything it takes to protect my children and keep our family together. The secret I’m holding proves that.”

Read if you like:
- multiple POV
- domestic thrillers
- short chapters
- mistress vs. wife drama

Jennifer’s perfect life comes crashing down the day she finds out that her husband died in a car accident… Until his mistress comes knocking on her door telling her that she owns the house/cars/money etc. Ohhhh and she has his baby! What’s a girl to do other than invite her to come and live in your house with your family 🤣

Another absolute BANGERRRRR from K. L. Slater!! Every single book this lady writes is absolutely fantastic, and The Girlfriend is no different.
I love a multiple POV because I get to piece together many sides of the story. I also liked the police department POV in there, that was cool.
There were many characters in this book but it was very easy to keep them all apart. None of the characters in the book were likeable to me lol, but it went perfectly with the story.
This book starts off slow and I admit I was confused where the story was going for the first bit, but of course it all came together in the end. I did not see the twists coming, which is exactly what I want in a thriller!

When Sara is told that her husband has died, she knows her world will never be the same again.

What she doesn't expect, is a knock on the door from a girl claiming to be her husband's girlfriend, and the rightful owner of every possession her family has left.

But this is just the beginning.

A book of secrets, lies and deceits - and the lengths people will go to in order to hide them. A fast-paced and intriguing read that kept me captivated right until the end.

3 stars ⭐⭐⭐

Special thanks to Netgalley for providing me with this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

I thought this book was really good! Unfortunately I didn't know how to get it sent over to my Kindle for a long time so I couldn't rate it until now. I will definitely be looking into more books by KL Slater after this. It was a page turner :)

What a fantastic read! This book kept me on my toes the entire time. While some of the storyline seemed a little predictable, particularly in the beginning, the twist at the end was SHOCKING. I picked the book up at the beginning of the weekend and could not put it down until I finished it!

Cole and Jennifer seem to have the perfect life from the outside, but of course nothing is as it seems. This book delves deep into their past and Jennifer’s uncertain future.

Thank you NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was my first KL Slater book.
Loved the storyline and twists!
Loved how the characters could each have been the “who done it?”
Good storytelling .
I did find the style of writing sometimes too detailed and descriptive which I believe lengthened the book. Which made me skim through a few areas in the book.
But that didn’t take away from me wanting to complete the book.
I will read other books by this author.
Thankyou to Net Galley, Author KLSlater and Bookouture publishing for the opportunity to read this book.

Too slow for me and at times a little dull. I liked the premise but there wasn’t any real hook. I think this could be a good read for anyone new to the genre though.

I felt this book slow paced and predictable. The twists are not that big and the usual turning the tables in the conclusion are absent.

Oh my goodness!!! The first book I have read by this author and what a read. I was hooked from page one and read it in two nights - full of twists and turns and I couldn’t turn the page quick enough. Loved the storyline and style of writing highly recommend
