Zach and Marissa have a one night stand, and when he retires from the SEALs he ends up in a small town trying to figure out his life and next adventure. There he meets Marissa again, only this time she has a nine year old daughter. This book is filled with second chance romance, in a small town that's genuinely sweet and adorable.

They go through some bumps and issues but in the end, their story is one that's sweet and ends in a happily ever after. I was hooked reading this book and couldn't put it down. It definitely got me in the Christmas mood!

I normally love a good secret baby trope, and an alpha male trope, so I was excited to pick up this book, my first from this author. Unfortunately this book did not live up to my expectations. The book dragged a great deal, and the supposed chemistry between Zach and Marissa pretty much fizzled. The one sex scene felt out of place, and almost like the author was just checking a box to have the characters have sex. Marissa and Zach's daughter is supposed to be nine, but she is written more in line with a 12 or 13-year old. For instance, nine year olds do not have school dances. And they do not speak the way this child is written. And Zach, for all he talks about protection and being a SEAL and successful missions, etc., is an awful bodyguard. He makes choices throughout the book that create danger rather than ameliorate it and then seems surprised when things go south. I also could not believe that Lydia had no idea he was a bodyguard or (attempting to) provide protection. The book simply didn't work for me. 2 stars.
