At first it seems as if Ava and Grant will never get past their differences and initial impressions of each other to work together successfully.. However, when they realise that there is a predator who has been attacking and murdering young women in their area they begin to respect each other and as this book is by one of the best romantic suspense authors it is no surprise that this respect turns into more. I always enjoy Laura Griffin's work and this story leaves plenty of scope for at least two more. I look forward to reading them.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book

I’ve read a couple of Laura’s books and I always enjoy them. This is a nice easy read. The romance and the hunt for a potential killer work well together. Ava and Grant are lovable with a lot of chemistry. The tension of the potential romance and the suspense of finding out what happened to the missing woman had me sucked in. I also need a Jenna and Connor addition because those two have the potential to be adorable. The reveal did seem to come out of nowhere and was wrapped up pretty quickly but it had kept me guessing. Also, Huck was too cute.

I received a copy of the ebook via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review

A really enjoyable read that was well written with a compelling storyline that had me gripped and characters that were well developed. A good level of suspense and I really like the romantic elements in the book too.

I enjoyed this book. It had romance, but not enough to make me cringe. A good plot which flowed along making it fast reading. The characters were well written and believable. I could envisage the locations due to the descriptions. Plus, even better, I honestly had no idea as to the culprit before they were ' unmasked '.

If you enjoy a romantic suspense novel it’s definitely worth reading Vanishing Hour by Laura Griffin.
Set in Texas it is about Ava, a lawyer who has relocated to the area with her rescue dog, Huck. Ava gets called out when people go missing in the local vicinity and Huck helps her track them down.
When they are trying to locate a young child lost in the area, she comes across an abandoned camp site. Once back in civilisation she takes her photos of the camp site to the police and meets Grant., one of the officers. There is an immediate attraction and even though Grant doesn’t approve of Ava trying to investigate the mystery site he ends up following up some leads on a missing person case from 2 years earlier. When it transpires that other local women have gone missing Ava is desperate to learn more and ends up putting herself in danger.
I really liked the style of this book, a mystery combined with a romance and I was obviously rooting for Ava and Grant to get together. The background of Ava being a volunteer search and rescue dog handler was very interesting and I enjoyed the descriptions of Ava’s relationship with Huck, the dog.
I have read other books by this author which I thoroughly enjoyed and this one was certainly in that category. I raced through it , both to find out who the bad guy was and also to see if Ava and Grant ended up together.
Thanks to NetGalley and Headline for my arc.

I would like to thank Netgalley and Headline for an advance copy of Vanishing Hour, the first novel in the Texas Murder Files series.

Ava Burch has moved to Cuervo in West Texas for a quieter life. She practises law and does voluntary search and rescue with her dog, Huck. On one such mission she discovers an abandoned tent and it’s contents and finds it suspicious. Sheriff’s Detective Grant Wycoff isn’t overly impressed by city slicker Ava, but he is interested in the photos she took of the tent and it’s contents. He’s thinking about an unsolved disappearance from two years ago.

I thoroughly enjoyed Vanishing Hour, which has a good mystery and the usual friction of a romantic suspense novel. In fact I liked it so much I read it in one sitting.

There is nothing particularly new in the novel. Ava keeps investigating after Grant tells her not to, she uncovers new leads, words are exchanged and they get together. That, however, does not tell a fraction of the story as this is an exciting, fast paced read with developments in every chapter and never a dull moment. There are more bodies, Ava’s life is threatened on more than one occasion and fireworks on the romantic front.

The novel is not complicated and is easy to read. It is told mostly from Ava and Grant’s points of view, so there is no hint of who is behind the carnage or why, the reader can do their own guesswork/interpretation of events and get immersed in the narrative. I had no luck in the guesswork department, but as the perpetrator doesn’t make an appearance until the denouement this is hardly surprising. Could it be called cheating? I prefer to think of it as taking the well disguised perpetrator trope to a new level.

Vanishing Hour is a good read that I have no hesitation in recommending.
