Scandalous Spiders! 😳😯🤯😳

This quick thriller-read was so fun and so twisty!
While the writing at times felt a little choppy and not super smooth, it still managed to flow quite well and I was very happy with what Caine did! I absolutely loved the premise and plot of this novel and how the story unfolded with the characters. I honestly couldn't get enough and I was pleasantly shocked by that ending! I was so gripped by the shocks and surprises in this novel! Lord knows how many times I tried to guess along the way and I was wrong every single time! The fact Caine is also a fellow Canadian was a boost of admiration for this author. I'll definitely be checking out his other books as he's got some serious potential and a fluffed up mine which I love!

The Patient's List follows a psychiatrist named Rina, who's life is spinning out of control. After seeing a young woman commit suicide, Rina just isn't the same. When a new patient comes in whispering a list of names, Rina has to get to the bottom of it. Even if everyone around her believes she's falling apart. I really enjoyed the flawed main character, however the end was messy and the connections weren't all thrown together at the end. Thanks Netgalley for the advanced copy!

It must be really hard to write a novel, so it’s not easy for me to give a bad review but I didn’t like this book at all. The idea was brilliant, but the execution was lacking. The characters were all nasty, which would have worked had the heroine been likable or relatable. No one has consistent behaviors at all and go from: “you’re so brilliant” to “I knew you were useless” (I’m paraphrasing here). Rina is unreliable and flaky but we’re supposed to believe she’s a great psychiatrist. The resolution is completely predictable. The chapters are mostly about Rina but, out of nowhere, there are some about a detective who presumably belongs to the Keystone Cops. The dialogues are stilted and full of useless details that are supposed to pass for character development. Lastly, I was appalled at the view of mental illness. Thankfully, I don’t have personal experience with it, but I watch movies and I know how mental health professionals have psychiatrists. Rina “overcoming her guilt at being a psychiatrist who needed therapy” (this is a literal quote) makes it sound like there’s a stigma about it. I don’t mean to be too harsh, I just wanted to explain why I’m giving this novel only one star.
I chose to read this book and all opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased. Thank you, #NetGalley/#Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op!
