Cora inherits her mother's bookshop in New Orleans. Only this isn't the New Orleans you know, it is an urban fantasy version that is ruled by demons, witches, vampires and shifters who stay hidden from the humans via charms and spells.
Cora has a dark past. She has no interest in paying protection to the demon lord, Talan, who is over the area of the city where the bookshop is located.
There is a missing girl, hidden talents, and the interesting discovery of this version of New Orleans.
I enjoyed the mystery of finding the missing girl and getting to know a new protagonist.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to view an ebook prior to publication.

Linsey Hall is a romantic supernatural writer who knows her audience as she writers her different series. City of the Night is a mystery, romantic supernatural that will have fans of Linsey excited for a new series as well as introduce new readers to this author.

The female lead isn't as likable at first but soon wears you down as she finds her tribe of supernatural's willing be friends with her prickle personality. The male lead is what I would call typical supernatural hero/romantic lead. The author creates a supernatural New Orleans that doesn't quite fit to the cities history and colorful style.

The story moves quickly, and readers will be able to figure out who is the bad guy and what he wants quickly and with very little fanfare. City of the Night is a quickly fast read for those who need their Supernatural romance fix.

This was a fun introduction to a new PNR series! If I’m not mistaken, I’m under the impression that the entire series will follow the same MCs and continue to dive into this urban fantasy world within New Orleans. It has a delicious slow burn romance that has me wanting to pick up the next book! The mysteries are interesting and the (reluctant) friendships are super adorable. There’s even a demon cat!! The characters are complex and even though I don’t usually pick up first person narratives, this one was very pleasant to read.

Thank you for the advance reader copy! All thoughts are my own.

City of Night is the first book in the Secrets & Sin series by Linsey Hall. I was lucky enough to receive an ARC copy from NetGalley, and I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed this book!

The story was unique and well written, and the characters were interesting and likable. I especially enjoyed the romance between the two main characters. It was steamy and had just the right amount of suspense to keep me hooked.

The setting of New Orleans and the paranormal elements added an extra layer of intrigue and excitement to the story. I cannot wait to see what Linsey Hall has in store for us next in this series!

I would recommend City of Night to fans of paranormal romance and urban fantasy. It is a fast-paced, enjoyable read that will leave you wanting more.

First experience with this author, and I am NOT disappointed. Great read from the spooky season. Fast pace novel, which is a must for me when deciding what to read. Loved the authors use of imagery in describing New Orleans. One thing I did not like about the book was the main character. She originally came off as stuck-up and rude until we got to know more about her. This book is about a demon hunter who inherits a haunted bookshop. However, she has a demon shadow who thinks he runs the place. Chemistry is instant, but the MC still doesn’t trust him. When a girl is kidnapped, she instantly thinks of the demon. The rest of the book solves the kidnapping and if the demon is friend or foe. I would recommend this book.

“I adored everything that was meant to shorten my lifespan.” -From City of Night

4 stars

A great urban fantasy start to a series with a slightly prickly heroine you will learn to love. I love some of the paranormal elements, and the cat. It started out really strong for me, but thought the middle lagged a little. I really wished the bookstore element was utilized, hopefully it will make an appearance in future books!

Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

A big thank you to NetGalley and Bonnie Dunn Press for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. I really enjoyed this book. I loved the characters, and I have always thought New Orleans was a cool place. I found this to be an interesting and different read. She got really lucky with her group of friends. 4 stars I will definitely keep this on my watch list for the next book.

Fast paced quick read urban paranormal fantasy, detective abduction mystery with enemies to lovers fated mates. I don’t typically go for urban fantasy, but the description seemed interesting and it was set in New Orleans which I’m fascinated with so I decided to give it a whirl. Romance was second fiddle and slow burn with a very small dash of spice. But almost none at all, .5🌶, just kissing. Dual POV. I enjoyed all the random side characters, and the different quarters of supernatural beings. One of the things I found odd and not believable, there were no guns as weapons. It only states daggers and the occasional sword. In an urban fantasy setting like this, with mob/gangster like society, I expected other weapons. I did like that certain things were kept in the dark or sparsely mentioned until near the end. The world building was minimal for the most part. There were descriptions but they were short and to the point. So it added just enough to the story and wasn’t lengthy. I liked it for the most part and kept my attention.

This is first rate entertaining, kickass female lead, fantasy. Cora has come to New Orleans to take procession of an inheritance, her mother’s bookstore. And to escape her past. She has killer skills and is not willing to be beholden to anyone anymore. She is going to find friends, challenges and maybe a whole lot more than she expected. Thank you to Bonnie Doon Press, Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op and NetGalley for the ARC. The views expressed are all mine, freely given.

I quite enjoy this style of urban fantasy, I liked Cora and Talan and the other surrounding characters a lot. Initially it took me a little while to warm to Cora, but I got there as she herself relaxed a little. I also appreciated how she was motivated and I'm interested to see more of her story and background unfold. I like that the romance was slow burn and low key, no insta love but maybe lost a little for the 'fatedness' of the pairing - it wasn't necessary and the chemistry I think would have come together without the idea of 'mates' being inserted. I liked that there was a happy ending, the violence matched the story and characters and wasn't too gratuitous.

As soon as I got this downloaded, I was nose to reader. City of Night has sexy, genuine, characters who had me falling hard for them.

I did not request this title so I'm not sure why it was approved and sent to my shelf. Obviously there was some mistake and I will not be reviewing this as it is not something I would typically read.

I enjoyed this fast paced book of Cora and Talan. Their connection was giving off slow burn, respectful, protector (not no need because she is bad ass) vibes,

I loved how Cora was strong enough to stand up for what she wanted and not afraid to say it, especially to Talan.

This had suspense, mystery and some ghost hauntings all based in New Orleans.

Can’t wait to keep reading this series and see where Cora and Talan end up.
