I've enjoyed several of Lucy's books and this one did not disappoint. A story of female friendship against the odds, set in the beautiful Norwegian countryside. The characters are written well. A couple of good twists, and engaging enough to keep me reading well past bedtime. A good thriller, enjoyable to read.

Maggie. Liz, Helena and Joni. Old friends bound by history, adventure, old secrets. and now bound by murder.
They lace up their hiking boots for the adventure of a lifetime in the Norwegian wilderness: a place of towering mountains, glass-like lakes, log cabins and forests stolen from a fairytale. It's the perfect place to lose yourself - until a broken body is found at the bottom of a ravine.
I liked the relationship between the four women. The setting added some great atmosphere to the story. four childhood friends go on a hiking holiday to Norway, but everything doesn't go to plan. Even though the pace is slow to begin with, I was quickly pulled into this story, and it wasn't long before the pace picked up. four very different women lead very different lives, but they still remain friends. Each woman brings their own motivations and issues along to the trip. This is a well written, twist filled and thrilling read. This is a mix between a survival thriller and a murder mystery is a quick and easy book to read. The story is told from the four women's perspectives.
I would like to thank #NetGalley #HarperCollinsUK #HarperFiction and the author #LucyClarke for my ARC of #TheHike in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you for NetGalley for providing me with this book for review. So having read and thoroughly enjoyed the castaways I was thrilled to receive this book. It certainly didn't disappoint an amazing read, read in one day I couldn't turn the pages quick enough.

Thanks to NetGalley and Harper Collins UK for this advanced digital copy to read prior to publication.
I’ve loved Lucy Clarke’s books since I found The Castaway’s and this one was just as great!
What I loved was the atmospheric setting of Norwegian mountains, the thrill of the outdoors, female friendships and underlying darkness each of them is battling in their own lives.
This is an easy read that I finished in a day as I wanted to continue the story to see what happened. I would highly recommend to anyone wanting a book to transport you in a journey and have a little bit of an escape from every day life!

After really enjoying the authors previous book You let me in, I have found the last couple of her books lacking and this sadly followed in the same way. I did enjoy the atmosphere but I didn't think the book was more than that.

The Hike is a fast-paced and engaging book but was also very easy to pick up and set down. While I really enjoyed the story, I found some aspects of it a little convenient and I didn’t have that ‘unputdownable’ feeling that I have had with Lucy Clarke’s books in the past. If you enjoyed One Of The Girls then you will definitely enjoy this as the general concept is very similar: a group of women, each with their own secrets and problems, take a trip and someone ends up dead.
This would make a good holiday read - it’s easy to pick up and read a few chapters and then come back to an hour later but probably won’t keep you up at night! 3* 🙌🏻

Lucy Clarke is just Brilliant! This story of four childhood friends coming together for a hiking holiday kept me hooked from start to finish with all its twists and turns. I could not put it down. It was intriguing to think how they had all infact remained friends with them being so different. I absolutely devoured this book.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in return for an honest review.

Having read and loved all of Lucy Clarke's other books, I've been looking forward to reading this.
The Hike tells the story of four friends who come together for a hiking break. Each of the ladies now have their own lives and problems and we get to know about each character as the story progresses.
I enjoyed the book but I didn't find it as gripping as Lucy's previous books.
Thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this, in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to Harper Collins, Netgalley and Lucy Clarke for the advance copy of The Hike.
I'm a big fan of Lucy Clarkes writing - so was very excited to get an advance copy of her newest book.
This story has a tight knit group of 4 childhood friends at its core - Maggie, Liz, Helena and Joni - Four very different ladies, who are on various paths in their life but whose friendship unites them in different ways.
They embark on Liz' choice of holiday - a Hiking trip in Norway - you can really get the feel of the mountains and Lucy Clarkes descriptive writing really sets the scene. You can immerse yourself in the feel, sounds, and atmosphere perfectly. She does this perfectly in all her books, that inate quality of really setting the scene and letting the reader feel what it's like.
I didn't feel like the story was slow at all, and at times felt like the characters could have been fleshed out more or delved deeper into certain backgrounds.
I was expecting maybe a more dramatic ending than we got, but thats just the thrill-seeker in me.
It was an atmospheric, gripping read that made me want to not put it down (and definitely didn't put me off wanting to book a mountain side holiday!)

What a thrilling journey! Although I've enjoyed other Clarke's books better, The Hike didn't disappoint, as it turns and twists until culminating in an ending and reveal that's really unexpected!

Four childhood friends Liz, Maggie, Helena and Joni, take turns to pick an annual holiday destination. Unlike their usual beach catch ups, this year will be like no other…hiking in the Norwegian wilderness. When they hear about a missing person who has a striking resemblance to Maggie, that’s when things take a sinister turn…then the body is found.
Thank you NetGalley for a copy of this for an honest review.
I loved the setting of this and the eeriness of how remote the hike is. The different personalities of the friends were written so well and the various clashing of same. The suspense was well established and the mystery of a dead body worked well with the twists and turns.
I’ve read some reviews where they felt it was a bit slow at the start. However, I think this worked well to get a feel of each character’s personality and the secrets they each keep. There was so much going on and conflict but I didn’t feel it was too much. I enjoyed it and it won’t be my last Lucy Clarke read.
A great survivalist thriller that is due for release on April 27th 2023.

**whispers** I have a confession to make…..This is the first book I’ve read by Lucy Clarke **holds head in shame** but now I’ve remedied that on with my review……. The Hike starts off as more of a slow ramble than a marathon! But in the author’s defence, she uses this time to introduce the four main characters to the reader. Once that author has established who’s who and sets the scene, the pace moves up a notch.
The Hike tells the story of Four friends, Joni, Maggie, Helena and Liz who find themselves hiking in the wilderness of the Norwegian mountains for their annual getaway. Sounds straight forward, right? Wrong! There’s a darker side to the wilderness, and The Hike turns into a chilling tale of survival. I appreciated the authors’ vivid descriptions of the remote and wild trek. They add to the growing sense of unease. Don’t you just love it when an author puts what appears to be ‘normal’ people into the most stressful situations? You never know what’s going to happen! Or what’s going to come crawling out the woodwork! In this case, the women’s rock solid friendship is pushed to the limits and shocking betrayals are deliciously revealed. There’s also a mystery surrounding a woman who disappeared on the mountains a year previously, which adds to the sense of foreboding.
I had one small quibble. The end was a bit of a meh moment. I was expecting some big plot twist, but when it came, I felt slightly deflated. Never the less I enjoyed my first outing with Lucy Clarke, The Hike kept me guessing, which is always a bonus. There’s lots of drama, mystery and tension to keep the reader’s interest. Overall, I found The Hike to be an enjoyable read and I will definitely be reading more books by this author.
My review will be posted to my Instagram https://www.instagram.com/thebookreviewcafe and all relevant book sites

A story of four childhood school friends who head to Norway for their first hiking holiday and things do not go according to plan. An exciting and thrilling story line which had me hooked from the very beginning. I love a story which explores female friendship and these four very different women all lead very different lives but have remained firm friends. Great story!

I enjoyed this one! A gripping story of an adventure holiday gone wrong.
My feedback would be that it was a little short and the ending felt rushed - I think this could have been fleshed out a little more.
I loved the characters and would have liked even more in depth knowledge of their friendships and back stories.
This really held my attention! Would definitely recommend.
Thank you to the author and publisher for the chance to read this advanced copy!

A thrilling roller coaster of a book that I could not put down. Four childhood best friends embark on their annual escape with a hike in the Norwegian mountains. They all have their secrets and confessions that slowly emerge as the story progresses.
Thank you to NetGalley and to Harper Collins UK for the advance copy of this book

My first Lucy Clarke book and it won't be my last!
While I've read a few books over the last year where a bunch of people go into the wilderness to hike or swim or do other things that seem crazy to me, a homebody, this is one of the better ones.
Here we have four women whose friendship is very believable: they wholeheartedly love each other but there are certain strains between them. And this year's trip is a hike to the mountains, where something sinister is waiting.
If you want an edge-of-the-seat thriller, you have it in this boom with great characters and an atmospheric setting.
Thanks to Netgalley and Harpercollins UK for the e-copy!
4.5/5

Well now I see what all the fuss is about Lucy Clarke books! This was my first of hers and certainly won’t be my last. It is an absolute page turner, so tense and suspenseful that I could not put it down. I do love a story of friendships and how they get tested in these situations. I loved the drama and the setting was so vivid. So much fun to read and try to guess who the bad guys were.
4 childhood best friends embark on a hike in the Norwegian mountains… what could possibly go wrong? Haha… you know it, if it can go wrong it will go wrong. They don’t all want to be there and have secrets that they are keeping from each other. Could these secrets be the end of their friendships, or lives? Read it and find out.
Thanks to Harper Collins UK for my advanced copy of this book to read. Publishes on April 27th.

Another fabulous read from the Queen of the twisty thriller!
Set in the unnerving location of the Norwegian mountains The Hike tells the story of four life long friends setting of on well a hike which seems fairly innocuous to start with but soon turns into a chilling tale of survival of the fittest.
It's atmospheric and heart racing and as usual includes a Clarke oh my god ending that again as usual I didn't see coming.
Thriller fans will love this for sure!

I was introduced to this author last year when Random Things Tours invited me to participate in a blog tour for One of the Girls (which I loved). Receiving an email from the publisher suggesting I try The Hike sent me flying to NetGalley to secure my copy. This book starts slowly but turns into a twisty thriller that will keep you intrigued. A story about friendship, betrayal and murder that will have you engrossed as the stunning scenery captivates your imagination. After reading this one, I am not sure if I want to plan a hike or stay far away from the idea of hiking.
Lucy Clarke tells a story about a long-standing friendship. The women in this story have a long history filled with good and bad memories. Added to that she places them on a mountaintop in bad weather and adds murder and revealed secrets to spice things up. You can expect the unexpected when you reach for this book.
Four friends, Liz, Maggie, Helena and Joni find themselves hiking in Norway for their annual getaway. The hike was Liz’s idea and the others are not prepared for the gruelling physicality of this adventure. These women find their friendships are pushed to the limits when they are stuck in horrible weather which leaves them stumbling into a dangerous situation they did not see coming. Can these friendships survive the pressure and can they forgive the betrayals that are revealed?
This story kicked off slowly, but when it got going there was no putting it down. I loved the long-term friendships and how these women while each very different managed to maintain a closeness while leading hectic lives of their own. The scenery in this story left me eager to escape to a quiet mountain top while the disasters they faced along the way left me feeling that staying on solid ground was probably a better call.
The author mixed up her characters beautifully. It was realistic that these four women were very different people. Each has their own priorities and lifestyle. I enjoyed each one's uniqueness and loved how they managed to maintain a reasonably close relationship despite their different lifestyle.
I cannot believe that I have only read two of Lucy Clarke’s books. I enjoy her style and must find some time to read more of her work. This one kept me entertained from start to end and it’s an easy addition to my loved list for 2023.
If you are keen on a thriller full of twists with a group of long-term friends at its centre facing a life-threatening situation while secrets are revealed, then this is a book you will not want to miss. Go ahead, and add this one to your TBR – you will not be left disappointed.

I have been a huge fan of author Lucy Clarke's since her very first book The Sea Sisters. There was something in her writing that I took to immediately and now eight books later I still adore it.
The hike was everything I hoped it would be. Having followed Lucy on social media, I knew of her hiking travels with her family and couldn't wait to see it come to life in a book.
We meet four friends in this story, Liz, Joni, Helena & Maggie. I loved how they holidayed together. Liz was the leader as such, Joni the wild one, Helena the fun one and Maggie the serious one maybe.
As it is Liz's choice of holiday this year, she thinks everyone will be up for a hiking trip. She has given them help and instructions with regards to preparing for the trip and she hopes that they all took her advice on board.
But as we all know, with the best planning in the world, things can go wrong.
Past mistakes are at the forefront and insecurities, relationships and life's problems seem to hamper their trip in every way and that's not even taking into account the bad weather and the sinister mountain.
I clung to hope for this group of friends with the turn of every page and I sure did feel the hairs rising on the back of my neck more times than I would have liked.
It felt so atmospheric so many times and I wasn't too sure who to trust.
Brilliant writing from Lucy Clarke and a brilliant read
