A pretty good collection of puzzles for the young wordsmith. It's a varied lot, such as crosswords, word searches, Kriss Krosses, and anagrams, alongside some jumbled grids of letters to find as many words in as possible, and some engagement with what we might see as a Scrabble rack – either to put the syllables in the correct order, replace the vowels or think of a word where one tile we're shown as highlighted has to appear twice. And, what's more, it's all at two levels of ability – although having failed twice with seeing six-letter words in the jumbled blocks I didn't think the basic was that dumbed-down at all. Perhaps it was a case of that puzzle being the one I've seen the least, and so didn't have my eye in – I managed some of the nine-letter equivalents for the older puzzlers. It's only at that second, higher stage, that we start to worry about the tile value of the words, in finding the richest basic score from set seven-letter racks, but this isn't about running when we can't walk, it's an easy and likeable way into a life puzzling and playing with letters and words – a life we all should be encouraging in the young, if not thinking of for our own brain training. A strong four stars.

I have had tremendous difficulty in getting this copy to download and the speed of turning pages has been a nightmare. Lesson 1 I will not get anything that is only viewable on Adobe again.
Having said that I managed to look at enough and have purchased my own copy. I have started using it for my mother who has recently been diagnosed with Alzheimer's and we are working through the beginner ones together. It is proving helpful to her and so as well as for children the publisher would do well to understand that it meets a challenged adult as well. My score of 5 stars is because of the hep that it has given my mother and I can see that a child would enjoy it as well.

Thank you to Netgalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I requested this book with my grandchildren in mind. They enjoyed it. Recommended.

This book is a great way for kids to have lots of fun learning how to spell and how to work out where words go and also finding words. I think it's a good idea starting them off with a beginner level which does encourage them for when they flip over and evolve themselves into the advanced level. I think this book has been well thought out with very good puzzles which does make me think that this would be a great book to take with you on long journeys in the car or train or even on the airplane.
(Thanks to Net Galley & Collins for this Book).
